This is how it works... being outside the "box" without thinking! Good grief!
IF you haven't been to a "Christian" bookstore yet you should go... for the mere entertainment! There you will find the best resources produced... however right beside, underneath or on top you will find stuff, that's right STUFF! Stuff that doesn't have anything to do with God, His Son or your life in the context of eternity.
Just religious stuff better known as crap.
Isn't a plastic Jesus all you need? Apparently not! you need the hat, the T-shirt, the collector's glasses, bumper stickers, fridge magnets, badges, watches, key chains, necklaces, temporary tattoos, and we haven't even made it inside the store!
Jesus knockoffs are for sale in any shape and size...
BECAUSE THE REAL JESUS IS NOT FOR SALE!
I came across this article from one who worked in "christian" publishing, his take on the excess and bastardization of Christianity calls it like it is...
"Another Look: Selling Jesus By The Pound by Jeff Dunn
But we also sold some Jesus junk. Pencils with Bible verses. Toothbrushes with Bible verses. Bumper stickers and combs and spinning tops and sparkly stickers—all with Bible verses. These were often bought by Sunday school teachers as rewards or bribes or however they used them, but they were also purchased by parents as rewards or bribes to keep their kids quiet as they shopped."

...if we are to live the real life Jesus Christ died and rose again to give us, we don't need all the cheap knockoffs of it! When people see us loving each other and standing for truth and loyalty... that will get more attention than a HONK IF YOU LOVE JESUS sticker.
I know, I wore more shirts and plastic propaganda in my first years as a Christian not knowing any better. It amounts to playing Christian, and hiding out behind the words instead of trying to live them.
I don't knock guys like William from Rosenberg TX who sported a "More Walk Less Talk" sticker... and was the only one to stop and help my stranded family out of our predicament... I am talking about the false advertisement. The kind that talks and fails to walk, the kind that fails to give the other a helping hand, the kind that leaves the other person just as lost as you found them. The world needs less of us and more of Jesus.
I want to be a better man, because I am as selfish as they come. I need that open-heart-surgery that only the Master Physician can perform... they say it is more about "being" than "doing" and that may be... it is also more about blessing than buying!
