Is ours a faith based on a rumor? Or are we experiencing God firsthand? Much of today's religious hype is founded on tradition or that of our forefathers... so in not wanting to bring shame on the family name we follow... and follow. But are we being honest in our "worship" ...or is it truly as the observants have said "faith is a fantasy" ...to serve those who have trouble sleeping at night.

Other observable "truths" are there for the onlooker, who contemplate this "WAY" we call salvation, it is the actions of those possessing this wonder full "life" and how they pass it on. Take for instance the "giving" done in Jesus' Name. Much of it is the gifts of the worn-out or ready to be thrown out...
"gifts" in Jesus' Name... not those things that are valuable or precious. Rarely would one find someone going out to buy something new to give the poor... or keeping the old vehicle and giving away the new... face it, we are more important than the homeless, we deserve better... after all we are the "diligent ones" that have saved, and not squandered our possessions....

"And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me." Matthew 25:40

...NOT only is our faith second hand... but our "offerings" appear to be as well! SO we find ourselves at times in a deficit... and we in a panic search out those pro's of faith to get us back on track... those "holy handlers" to revive us, and sooth our aching souls. As the author of the book Secondhand Jesus Glenn Packiam states, we start looking for shortcuts to God. Feeling somewhat relieved or inspired by another's experience...
when what we are needing is our own personal experience and faith in Christ that cannot be substituted.

THE "freethinker" has only to follow the masses before him, following a similar free thought of finding their "own way" to God... on the surface it would appear to be logical, yet one should look more carefully at the results of such quests. IF one were to "find" their own path... wouldn't one consider the destiny before the outset? OR wouldn't one consider if "their path" was already traveled and worn by others... thus an objective look into the results of such a journey be worthwhile? Even the Bible states clearly that we must observe first the lives of those "leaders" before considering a similar destiny, the Apostle Paul wrote...

"For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel."
1 Corinthians 4:15

...careful then, who you imitate or follow with on your journey to God. Best to be a firsthand follower of the Almighty, than a secondhand believer. ONE thing is certain, if you get your information and your experience directly from God, regardless of the outcome... at least it will be honest.

"Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near"
Isaiah 55:6

"Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever."
1 John 2:15-17

13 months ago: Hello Truthbrary. I thank you for what you wrote. I feel slammed by the last scipture quote, and I mean that as a good thing. If there are people I can truly say are fortunate,.....they are the old. Time and the world have rendered them too weak and frail to argue with God. I remember this teacher who told me that old age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill. God is really,........really old,....He is in fact,....older than dirt,... and rocks. Ya'll have a good one.

Trust me, it slams me plenty too! But as to the "Ancient of Days"
...God is just getting going, and in his prime !:]

God decides who is going to be good, bad or indifferent. The "diligent ones" were made diligent by God. So God gives people their gifts of diligence etc. etc. These homeless people were not given diligence. So now I really am confused. If God does not give the gift of sight to some people, He punishes the blind because they cannot see? Don't sound right to me Truth.
13 months ago: Tiger,

God allows the blind so that we that see may help... and it is that way for the poor or those who are challenged in some way.... that our excess may be their sufficiency....

And he answered them, "Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise." Luke 3:11

13 months ago: Then how can we blame someone for not being diligent?

13 months ago: I trust you are being facetious. Jesus is not about fixing blame on someone. Thankfully, he comes to open the eyes of the blind and give life. Even to someone like me.

13 months ago: I believe everyone no matter who it is sinner or not will be treated equally. I think it is our responsibility to follow the right path that isn't damaging to others or ourselves. I always had an ability to recognize what was going on around me. Evil is something that is incorrigible, and I will not be around it or deal with it. You have children that are sick in hospitals and suffering. You have people that never have a chance from the time they were born but still want to be responsible citizens and fight for it with a power given to them. This will comes from somewhere. It is a strength that is a given grace. God is all good.

13 months ago: Interesting piece. Thanks.
Very much along the lines the things the Lord has had me considering of late.
I don't want to embarrass myself by presumption one way or the other, so I will try to make this as simple and straightforward as can be without offense.
Do you know what makes a plane fly...the Bernoulli effect? I assume you do...but it's easily "Googled".
The point is that there are numerous engineers and engineering students who can blithely recite the principle and tell you how they know lift is generated over the wings and therefore the plane can fly.
The error in our thinking comes in when we believe knowing how a plane flies, and even reproducing a wing with lift causes us to imagine in our own minds that we have somehow attained to the inventiveness of the Wright brothers. Do you see what I mean? So often we mistake some kind of understanding for experience, as though if we can explain something (that was explained to us) we have attained to something.
So it is with what you describe in the Lord. A man of the faith of Abraham will either hear and experience God beckoning him personally, or he will deceive himself into thinking that because he knows all the books of the Bible, and every detail of the story...and confesses he believes it, this is what God is about.
Now, it is a good thing to count Abraham's, Paul's, Peter's faith as a worthy thing...but their testimonies are always for the one purpose of bringing us into a living and personal experience of the same God. As John wrote..."We proclaim to you what we ourselves have actually seen and heard so that you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ."
Either faith brings us into the experience of Christ, or it is not faith.
13 months ago: Exactly, well put Gregoire!

13 months ago: Truth...................I like this quotation from the Bible that you show:
And he answered them, "Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise." Luke
I remember being in St. Patrick's Cathedral around Christmas one year. A woman stood over the church heater warming herself. You could see she was very cold and frail. She didn't look homeless just very poor and lost.
100s of people walked by without even looking at her. No one seems to care about people who are out there today with nothing because of the economy ordeal. They show no interest whether those not employed or lost their homes live or die. Can't even find a kind word from anyone. So, my point is that quotation is meant for today for people to read and learn from it. Ten to one they won't care.

13 months ago: Maybe God has changed with the times. I'm not being ludicrous. The quote that Ricardo mentioned that he felt slammed by,,,. I'm sure that God would want us to smile and be happy and reach out for the adventure because that brings a positive attitude. If we are to continue learning in life and forever as they say, then what do we do with the money we've earned on the journey. If you don't go overboard with worshiping material objects in life, then you aren't acting against God's will. You are just living and doing what is expected of you. We all have a purpose to fullfil. That's the way I interpret the quotation.

13 months ago: Did anyone have anything to say about the Dan Savage video today on AOL.
He has a lot of things to voice regarding the Bible. Would be interesting to hear comments on that. Sunny
13 months ago: Sunny,

I don't know exactly what video you are referring to, however I have just written a post on Dan Savage's message to gay teens, inspired by your question...

13 months ago: Dan Savage refers to the New Testament in ref to the gay lifestyle being great...
it is my guess he didn't read all of it...

"...do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."
1 Corinthians 6:9-10

13 months ago: Truth....I didn't look at the entire video as it was too much for me to digest.
I just saw the first few seconds.
All said, this world is made up of all different kinds of people.
I don't judge anyone, but the ones who inflict deliberate harm on others that's another story. The Corinthians I'm sure were subjected to violence, crime, brutality, and everything else during that age in their own environment. Peace under law I'm sure was not enforced or even imagined or perceived to ever come into existance. We don't throw people to the lions anymore, and we don't condemn without reason. It's a different time.
13 months ago: Sunny,

Do you have a link to that particular video, so I can make proper reference, and be sure what I am responding to...
