In India religious guides are all the rage. You may think of the more common ones such as Hinduism or possibly even Islam when you think of India. It seems however that a large number of people are converting to one of the most bizarre fashions imaginable.
Indians are converting to scientology. Approximately 1000 a year are joining up with the church. How in the world is this possible? Well it seems that since they have converted to the religion of economy long ago, Scientology helps them with this a lot. It appears that they are aporaching the church due to is boasting about its wonderful literature and help guides on everything from marriage and family issues all the way up to buying selling for profit. These manuals that hold all of this valuable information, the locals don't seem to be able to go into any acual detail about these methods, but they are pretty sure its working for them!
This is getting so popular in the Indian business that they don't even see scientology as a religion, but only as a kind of self help tool that tells them to do things. No one seems to even suspect that it could have a bad reputation outside of their country.
Mostly because the church, that does not call itself a church in India, is pulling in massive amounts of prophets. Manuals being sold about certain "technologies" are being sold for 750RS or $16 American dollars. And these are just the pamphlets, you also need the training that comes with it that sells for another 980RS($21) for a 4 hour training session, or the most popular product for 12,600RS($270) for the complete set of Hubbard's lecture packs, all wonderfully translated into local languages so anyone can have them and learn from them.
How could anyone think that people selling you information on how to be a better life, and be productive in the church, should be considered a bad thing or even religious?
Marion Whitta, a scientologist and trainer from Australia has stated that their purpose is not to convert people to scientology, but it is to get people to live better.
"We are giving people a technology, teaching them life skills. [Scientology] helps a Hindu be a better Hindu, a Muslim be a better Muslim. We're not, at the end of the course, giving them a certificate saying you are now a Scientologist" Whitta explained. "There are members, specifically people who sign up on a membership, and we do have centers," she explained. "But what I'm doing here is running a tour. We train hundreds, thousands, within a very short span of time. Many of these people then use the technologies. Whether they call themselves Scientologists at the end of it, I don't know."
