This evening the Church of Scientology of Central Ohio, an organization subservient to the global Corporation of Scientology, had a special event on the Santa Maria. The event was held to raise funds for their new "Ideal Org" building, which Columbus residents will recognize as the old Time Werner building on Dublin Road.
The Santa Maria is a 1/3 or 1/5 scale replica of one of Columbus's ships which he used in his historic crossing of the Atlantic. It is moored in the Olentangy River in downtown Columbus, Ohio.
Having been alerted to the event by an email leaked on an anonymous website (an email which used the image of Yoda, Goerge Lucas's beloved charactor from the Star Wars saga), I was in the park to observe the event as it began.
After watching the Scientologists knock their expensive digital camera off its tripod, sending it crashing to the ground with several pieces breaking off, and then watching them harass an innocent employee of the city park (he dresses like a pirate for his job) because they thought he was a protester, I decided I had enough pictures and footage and prepared to leave.
As I walked away, I encountered Frank Dean, who is the DSA (local Office of Special Affairs representative, Scientology's intelligence and enforcement branch) on the path behind where I had been observing the event.
I wished Frank well, and extended an offer to talk to him some time, at which point he recited, from memory, my home address. I don't know if this was intended to intimidate me (it didn't), or if it was all he could think of to say, but in either case you can watch the video and come to your own conclusions.
My offer to meet and talk is sincere, however because of the history of the Corporation of Scientology, I think it is unlikely that Frank will be allowed to talk with me other than his attempts to handle myself and the anonymous protesters who have become such a visible issue for him over the past year and a half.
