Profile Views = Facebook Scam

How Many People Have Checked YOUR Facebook Profile?

A new third party Facebook app that promises to reveal the total number of profile views on your FB profile is a scam. ProfileSpy and Pro Check are two apps identified in this Facebook profile counter scam. These profile counter apps offer to show you how many people have checked out your Facebook profile. In return, you fill out a survey and grant them access to your profile. Doing this leaves you vulnerable to malware that can be downloaded when you click the application link. Currently, there are no apps to count profile views.

Since information on Facebook spreads rapidly, this new scam is topping the status updates--as something to do though, not the thing to avoid. If you see a status update that is a general blurb about the total number of Facebook views and an offer to "find out your total profile views" don't go there. Personal Facebook pages do not offer statistics. If they did, it is likely that the only application that could provide them is actually Facebook. There are no profile views or blog counters, at least not for personal profiles.

Whether it is sheer curiosity or a boost to the ego, people want to know who is interested in them. The idea that someone is looking you up, searching for you, reading your notes, viewing your pictures, or just interested in you is psychologically pleasing. Consider how much information you have available about yourself on Facebook. The average social networking site profile has too much personal information.

Based on its numbers alone Facebook is a target for scammers, thieves, hackers, and others who want to take advantage of a huge database of information. Use common sense when you are online. Do not put all of your personal information out there. The truth is that you don't know who is looking at you, good or bad.
