An inmate in a prison in Washington state caused an evacuation when he attempted to cook sausages in his prison cell, in his toilet. The smoke from the sausages cookout was spotted coming from a sewer vent pipe, and the inmates were all evacuated into the dining hall as a precaution.
Issue #1: I'm not sure how prisons work, as far as money and prison gift stores that they can purchase from, but how did this inmate get sausage and matches or whatever to make a fire? The inmate bought the sausages from a prison store, why is there a prison store anyway? Isn't it prison? When I was in trouble as a kid I never got to stop by the gift shop when I was on my way to my room. And the matches part, oh the danger those would have brought if I was caught with them while in trouble.
Issue #2: Cooking in a toilet. I understand that you would do what you could in a small cell to make it accommodating, but cooking in the toilet. That's foul. Toilets are for their understood purpose, and for trying to escape. Cooking doesn't fit into that category. He should have tried to escape after smoking some of the smell out, that would have been a good story that even Andy Dufrane would have admired.
A final thought, there have been times when sausage in between meals were a commodity for me, and certainly for many today. Prisoners should not be allowed to live with 3 squares and snacks while others are struggling for the same. It's time the prisoners suffer some, as are those in the economy, let's cut the snack shack and a meal, and use the extra money to make sure good citizens are taken care of.
