Sure, "Mr. Racing" Roger Penske may be a business genius,
but if you think one guy can carry an entire automotive
brand based on his cache', I have 2 names for you from
the recent pages of the automotive history books:
1)Malcolm Bricklin.
2)John DeLorean.
Then again, as far as potentially saving 1,200 former
GM factory jobs, I wouldn't bet the farm on it. I'm
saying only this slightly tongue in-cheeck, but Roger clearly-believes in out-sourcing, folks. Look at his 2
Indy car drivers: one is Brazilian, the other is Australian.
Really,Rog, couldn't find any decent American drivers for
your open-wheel racing efforts?
How do you think this business-model will translate when it comes time to build proprietary vehicles? I'm thinking he'll look to China and India.
Wait! What about England? I'm sure the old Sterling
plant could be re-tooled to build crappy faux Saturns,
the way they used to build crappy faux Hondas.
Hmm...could even do some "badge engineering" and call
them "Oldsmobiles", too!
As H.L. Mencken once said, "No one ever went broke
underestimating the intelligence of the American people".
