Everyone needs to continue to file there unemployment benefits regardless if they are eligible or not. I have continued to file mine since December of 2010 to be counted in the percentage rate of unemployed and also keeping records of job contacts. we are disappearing because there is no record of us still in need of jobs, if we don't continue to claim them whether our benefits ran out or not it will not show actual jobs that are needed. The lady I spoke with at the unemployment office advised me to continue filing my benefits and I continue to receive my paperwork stating my next filing dates. However it still states that I am ineligible. If people would or will continue filing maybe the truth would come out of the actual unemployed who are in desperate need of jobs now.

And this is for the one who always likes to tear, bully and try and make people feel worse than they already do by picking apart everyone's rant or rave. I written what I wanted to say as clear as possible and for wanting names or what state i reside in or anything else you might find fit to bully about just button it. just be blessed you have a job and I am happy for you and your family just buzz off and allow others to speak with out your ignorant comments. And be glad that god has blessed! (Carma really sucks!)

Anyhow short and sweet, Have you just tried calling and filing like you would normally? just answering the questions. Maybe its different in each state but you wouldnt think so and if it is that really sucks. I also had reached my 99weeks in November and they still owed me one week yet and I tried calling and fighting about it and all I was told his they could take that week if they wanted two, which is a bunch of bulls**t.

14 months ago: Evelyn thanks for clarifying your answer. In New York State if you reach the 99 weeks, they put up on the website that you cannot keep signing up because they just determine that since you cannot get any more unemployment you are not eligible to keep signing up. They put up on my webpage that if I am eligible for a new tier then I can keep signing up. If not then forget about it.

14 months ago: You are correct that only those applying for unemployment are considered unemployed. That is why the unemployment actually goes up when businesses start hiring, because all of those that were discouraged start looking again.

The actual rate is probably two or three times the official rate, and that doesn't count those that are underemployed - holding down a part time job so they can just scrape by.

It is really sad that you all are suffering while at the same time the individual states and the Republicans at the Federal levels are laying off more people and eliminating job training programs so their millionaire and corporate buddies can continue to get obscene tax breaks.

It is important that you all continue to broaden your job skills during this time by getting more training and education. The big industries who are sitting on trillion of dollars are saying that they won't even consider hiring anyone that doesn't currently have a job. They want the most qualified with the latest training and best education.

In Germany they rode out the recession by working fewer hours and by job sharing with the government's help. Too bad the Republicans don't care.

14 months ago: In NJ where at end of this month my last check is due(99 and done!) they sent a notice saying that the end was near (arent they right on that one!) for my UI and that they will let me know if and when anything happens.
There was nothing about still sending in the job forms and frankly cant afford to be mailing them out since all $ will be gone come April.
Great news was that one SOB who interviewed me a month ago gave me complete false hope almost saying the job was mine and then asking me to attend a Fair for their product that cost me another $100 and now runs and hides from me when I follow up.
When I looked the other day on Monster the resume was deleted and position expired on the 5th!
Very NICE work by that guy / company dangling me all over the place after a great 2 hour interview where he was saying "I was heads and shoulders above what they had seen"!
Guess eventually a head of LESS/NO GRAY must have come in and they decided that my solid 29 years business experience was as WORTHLESS as I now feel after getting hopes up for me and my family!
The disrespect is amazing at some of these people that hold your life in their hands!
AND THEY KNOW IT!
You do all you can and by the book and get SQUAT.
Sorry but at 57- a decent job like that one will never happen again and the lesser ones I apply for like Lowes-Home Depot- Target-Taco Bell- yeah they say hiring- BUT NOT ME!
Regardless of what they say apply for lesser jobs- they dont want well qualified-overqualified-so thats the end of that.
ITS PURE AGE AND EXPERIENCE DISCRIMINATION-Flat and simple and may God help all you in this same boat!

14 months ago: Gary this is what the 99ers are experiencing in all different job scams. It has been a three-ring circus. One scam is the Green Jobs. They get you to go out in the middle of the Evening in a van with a bunch of people to go door to door to sell their service and if someone signs up for it and changes their mind, you don't get your $8 that you are suppose to get. A lot of hype but no good and very disappointing. Like you described is when you are lucky to get passed the gate keeper, I call them, and go to the HR Dept.for your second interview, you usually don't get the job. Most interviewers know immediately if they want you or not. Also, Agencies that have a hook to bring you in by saying they have a certain job, usually don't have anything real, and you waste a lot of time and money. When you make good money, you are forced to work for these people who don't have the experience that you do, and they either hate you or you can't them. It is a wild merry-go-round ride. Ten years ago you could get a job at that age, and you would have a lot to offer a company. I'm a 99er, and I had to sell off a lot of my personal items to get by, but I lived through it and got by. It isn't right we have to give up so much because how long can we keep it up. Just keep trying every day. I just love when you get interviewed, and they say they will let you know in a couple of weeks because they like you, but they never call. Ask a lot of questions before wasting your time. Sunny
14 months ago: Have had these guys come up to where I live(for now but not for long) and know exactly thats what it is and have heard from neighbors they sign bogus names and numbers just to get them out of their face so you know they make no $!
Way too many scam jobs out there along with plain just BAD jobs like so many call centers that get you in chew you up and spit you out in less than a month because of unreal expectations-goals and pressure.
Basically every job out there now is a "sales' job and when you even go for anything in retail-restaurant-you get that "look" if you talk to anyone and then get led to the website anyway.
The website is just another way to age discriminate these days. It probably has some kind of automatic calculation that can estimate age if they cant already tell since it for dates and you can figure from there!
My company lay off targeted 3 specifics age 50 plus and 10 years of service and pension eligible without any fear of reprisal.
Right now bad things are happening as the last check is anticipated and like yourself I have used my severance and milked the entire $401K to survive for 2 years.
sunny2

14 months ago: Government doesn't seem to care that you have to live off of your pension. They very cleverly keep things in balance that way. I remember two years before the company hired a new HR Director. Found out later he had been a tv salesmen and didn't have any experience. This was a Fortune 500 company. His first day on the job we had a luncheon for him, and he announced the Company was going paperless and there was going to be cutbacks. Then they started outsourcing and got rid of the huge department completely except for a few diehard jerks who were trouble makers and made your life miserable up to the end. Yup, that is what it is "Checks and Balances" for their gain.
14 months ago: Same in my mass layoff(gee maybe same company?) and the ANIMALS basically escaped the sinking ship or as we say "rats always escape sinking ships"!
These were mostly the overpaid-do and know nothing and as you note many "**** stirrer types!" "office dwellers" that depended on the "little guys" in THE PIT!
But made your life crap at every opportunity right up to the end.
Get this after ours there was another lay off and in that some of the people getting laid off were FORCED / sent to India to train and they had no choice or they got no severance!
Plus they had to show they did a good job and the people learned!
sunny2
sunny2
14 months ago: The worse are the interviewers that are very young and can't interview and are pretty much in la la land and can't hire a good person for the life of them.
14 months ago: Anyone younger than 50 on an interview is automatic DEATH to anyone 50 or over-THATS A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME.
Have wasted hours with these types in agencies with their bogus BS about potential jobs that reel you into their office and they test you and then have nothing but have shown their bosses that they "are working" while you look like a groveling desperate old fool to them.
I refuse to even look at any temp to perm because thats usually a "clean up" mess because they let someone go and are desperate and after they use you-you go too!
THERE IS NO INTENT on the PERM part!
sunny2
sunny2
14 months ago: Oh Boy. I didn't realize about the temp to perm, but I can see it clearly after you told me. There was a position here a couple of days ago nearer to my home temp to perm and they said the salary was non negotiable. In order to get it, I had to go to an interview with an Agency in NYC first and spend a fortune getting in. Then who knew if you would even get it after the interview with the Company. It is always that they think you are desperate and send you on any kind of a job. If you want better, they don't bother with you. Better to focus on getting the job you really want.
14 months ago: Even BETTER to NOT deal with an agency!
They will waste your time after roping you in and testing and then grilling you and even pointing out "what have you done in 2 years and why not"? making you feel like blasting out at them
The worst is Soloman Page who a few friends went to and said a complete waste that had no jobs-just looking to add to their "work day" time and looking for leads!
When an agency calls check the reviews on internet and you will see about 95% are run around time wasters.

14 months ago: I was being tested at an Agency. The girl puts me on a computer and leaves me. Two hours go by, and I see she goes out to lunch. Nothing was working correctly, so I called over one of the other agents to help me. Turns out she never even set me up properly. The program wasn't working right. I got up and walked out. She saw me in the parking lot and was shocked. I guess that was a first for her. I did this on another job interview for a legal firm when the guy kept telling me to move over to give other people a seat. I told him I had to get something out of my car and drove off. I was so proud of myself. From now on if the vibe isn't right, it is best to walk away and leave them with their big egos.
14 months ago: Guess they never called ya back eh?
Have had a few same situations and you like me seem to act on your instinct and YOU ARE RIGHT!
Had one like this a few years ago and ended up walking out because I refused to sit there for 2-3 hours playing on the computer and after hearing people walk out saying "they do nothing and dont waste your time-they have no jobs".
I mean lets get real-if there were jobs - nobody is gonna need them to charge their fees and commissions for them RIGHT?
In days of cutting costs-AGENCIES should be the first useless additional cost to unload!
I dont need to be a "guinea pig" for some younger know nothing and have done nothing to sit there all pretty and prepped shooting me basic interview 101 questions that has NO JOBS to offer!
In same I have rejected a few offers to DO THIS VERY JOB and like car(done it!) , cemetery property (ughhh done it!!) and insurance salespeople-NO THANKS!
Keep those loser high pressure turnover-nowhere - no paying "jobs" you know the ones that are always open at the Job Fairs?
THERES A REASON FOR THAT!

14 months ago: Gary - I also want to say that many times job interviewers and agencies will use your own resume against you for contact information. They get leads. Really rough out there.
14 months ago: Sorry I see here you already knew this but thats pretty much all they are there for.
Unless maybe you are one of the lucky 6 figure types that maybe they WILL work for.
Many of the temp to perm jobs I have heard are complete horror shows with companies in a mess and also because they are so bad they dont/cant keep anyone in their crappy position.
Everyone snaps at me now saying "you just have to take ANYTHING now" !
Well APPLY FOR ANYTHING and see the faces and results of that discrimination process and if you get lucky you get minimum wage with part time because no Dunkin Donuts-retail etc...wants anyone there getting full time pay!
They basically have eliminated the once half decent "management trainee" positions with benefits.
ITS ALL REWARD for the employer now and the older you are the more they hold that over you especially after long term unemployment.
I also have a friend that did get a job just beating the 99 and is in the most misery she has ever been in (and shes ONLY 46!) and is almost being taunted to quit and getting blamed for a mess she "inherited"!
Thats not going to last too long.

14 months ago: I learn more and more every day. I think a lot of us have been through some painful experiences which can be very humiliating. I had to sell off some of my personal things that were really special to me to get by. I'm attending school at this moment, but I had to fight the State for over a year to be able to attend. They fought me tooth and nail. I just said I am determined and that is what I want to do to get a decent job. I told them getting a job at this time was unrealistic. It was. If I didn't stand my ground, I would of been up the creek. I went into one job a few years back after losing my career positon. I did manual junk work that was piled up on many desks for over a year. Of course, they were all young people who kept telling me to let the work sit. I cleaned everyone's work up in 3 months. Didn't get me anywhere. I was back out looking for work. If you take a lessor job, you will see there is a lot of discrimination with other employees. They don't appreciate anyone different. Unless you are like them, you don't fit in. The bosses act superior and can really do a job on you. They are stuck in a rut and they can't stand it that you were able to get ahead. This is going on now in my family. They start stripping your personality away to be just like they are. Bad situation.
14 months ago: Yes its amazing that anything gets done in current work environments!
I also read that some "boss" was complaining that he had a 30 something and had to fire them because they were on internet and texting all day and then hired a 50 something!
But got rid of the 50 something because they couldnt even set up their own computer!
Like so many out there they also want you to be a IT person that they dont need to help one iota- if that happens and after 2 years you do lose some things-they will use it against you instead of assisting and then unload "your old ****"!
Too many "bosses" have zero people skills these days too! Its just a bad work environment and no wonder the US lags behind so many other countries in production and work environment!

14 months ago: It all just seems like a bunch of bull crap how our work environment is. I tell you the temp agencies suck to, I had a friend tell me her company was hiring and where and how to apply. Well a few of us applied but never were sent to that company. Seemed to be weird because my friend informed me that they had hired some people and asked if I ever put my application in. To make a long story short we found out that the temp agency makes a certain profit off of companies for providing them with employees and apparently they felt placing us would not be a profit to them so we lost out on the jobs. Finding out that the individuals that got the positions were placed through the other temp agency. Its very frustrating!
14 months ago: Agencies and "multi hiring" call center BS jobs that get lots of people initially hired that either quit in a few days because the jobs and people they work for are unbearable and hideous or maybe last a few weeks or they get rid of these new hires before their benefits kick in.
The likes of Verizon are notorious for this type of treatment and yet trumpet "NOW HIRING".

They give you false hope and make you wait in limbo for several weeks, and you never hear from them. I don't think there are many trained professionals out there anymore. Taken over by a bunch of no faces.
Yeah, about continuous filing, I don't think the State wants to be flooded with paperwork. I thought it might be a good idea, too, but I figure Government doesn't want real figures showing the people out of work.

14 months ago: Evelyn if you listen to everything going on, it makes you wonder what the real reason is for this behavior. I think everyone has gone "Mad." These State workers have had the upper-hand in bullying unemployed people for a very long time. Their attitudes have been rigid and morbid and never encouraging. They act as if we are "pick pocketing" them because we are getting something they think is free money. Bad enough we have to face each day with devastating circumstances arround us caused by the avoidance of any resolution. On top of that, you are forced to listen to utter ignorant statements from these Agencies. They take orders and push you around. So far many of them have given me wrong information over a period of time which has caused set backs and problems. Also, they lie big time and say they are helping, but don't. Just think about what you personally have to do and keep looking for work. My daughter when she ran out of benefits, worked in Macys, and it actually turned out well at Christmas time. That was only temporary. She did good, but they didn't hire her even though her sales were way above other's percentages. She got a job right after that. Thank God. During that gap, she was able to volunteer which gave her a step up toward finding a job. Something will come along for you. Maybe not what you want right away but keep focused on what you are looking for. You can always improve your job situation when opportunity comes along. Takes a lot of patience. It is tough.

14 months ago: Gary - Keep positive. I can see you are very smart and productive. It does feel like a lifetime when you are in between jobs. Corporate America is not secure and will always get you in the end. Can you use your pension to put a small amount aside to invest in something that will benefit you? You get to a point that you know so much more that you can do anything.
14 months ago: Thanks Sunny but I have about $50.00 left after paying for that class.
You know in retrospect I should have invested in a small hot dog cart and started a roadside business like that!
I did not get huge $ when being shown the door and my $401K had tanked and lost 50% or more at that time to make life even more wonderful so I lost all that money I would have eventually taken anyway.
Not sure where we are turning and I have always said we should high tail from this high cost area(NY/NJ) and head to Buffalo-where there are job issues yes but where the cost of renting is peanuts as compared to here but my wife still clings to her job which recently cut 5 hours from her- shes done it for 7 years and no raise last 5 and no benefits-she would be better off UNEMPLOYED!
Then at least we could move to somewhere cheaper and she would have some income.
Funny but there is a case where someone would be better off unemployed-they kick her "A" because they look at her as some desperate 55 year old with nowhere to go and she is "weak".
For us its really WE NEED A BETTER PLACE to LIVE where we can start over but how do you do that without at least a job to pay the rent?
We have too many intangibles- kids at home-1 paying a piece of the rent(albiet a very small one) and 2 others basically not working and should be tossed out at age 24 and 21 but going to CC and its just a mess.
My Mom in FLA is 87 and sorry but we could never just say "Hi Mom" we are here and live that way-neither could she I am sure too.
So we are left on the bow of the sinking Titanic and I feel like the guy in the movie sitting in his chair facing the water coming up and over him with his face of complete fear.
That is exactly how I feel and as I said-thoughts never imagined come and go and its scarier because your own mind and psyche plays tricks on you in this very defeated-hopeless state of mind.

Maybe one of the kids will come through with something that will help. Sometimes we have to rely on them even if it is small. They have the strength and age on their side since they need a roof overhead. I'm sure if called to the challenge they may come through. These kids are smart today. It makes me so mad that this economy has trickled down to hurting the kids and families. Moving could be a good idea. I plan to do that very soon, probably live closer to the ocean. If you have moving in mind as an answer and starting over, it might lead to something good. It isn't hopeless. Just have to find another way to get over that wall. You've always been productive. There is no difference now, except new challenges. You are still the same person.
14 months ago: True and I NEVER ever thought I would run through year # 2!
I had so much confidence but now its 99.9% gone as I also see the worry and fear in my wifes eyes and actions.
Its got to be much tougher when you are also dragging someone else with you-so in this case being alone would be better than "family" as far as I am concerned.
Plus you need the support of your "other" and as far as leaving this area-NO- and that is also decaying our 30 years of marriage.
She stays because her family is here-I have only my Mom in FLA and could care less about "family" and will move away in a NY second-but she clings-remains YET not 1 of them will toss us any life preserver even in mention.
Basically they show a feeling that "I have not tried and dont want to work and should have found something" and that I am now the reason for the decay of the family.
Nice little extra "something" to eat away at me.
Gee THANKS FAM!

When my parents were living, there was always a cushion even if it was just to visit them. It gives you a breather to get away for a few moments. Just focus on getting back on track. Can I ask if there is any new training specifically that you may be interested in that may help and that you can inquire to the State besides the security training. You wouldn't have to pay for it. Usually, on-line courses are good which leaves you free to work and some schools will certify and place you. It might be a good thing if the State has it available.

That was right up my alley, started researching the internet for it and well its not til the end of 2012 and no applications are accepted yet. I can't wait that long, I needed a job two years ago. So I take it that our government is using that jobs are climbing.......and ......the real question is....Is it gonna take almost two years to even fill out an application. Might be jobs coming but there not here yet. Can't survive waiting, need jobs that are available now!!!!

All they care about are the tax breaks and then leave the area after a small period of time or when they have to start paying taxes. There is a job fair here today but those are jokes. Companies don't even promote their jobs to older workers and grab all the young people and two weeks later the same jobs are in the paper again. No one wants experienced workers all they want are people who stay a month or two and then complain that they can't find competent workers. I don't know what it will take to get it right.

Somethings gotta give sooner or later!
14 months ago: Same in this area-after 1 Job Fair I realized these are pure garbage and just gives those people with jobs "something to do" and sit there and screen off "unwanteds" all day long.
That would be the "mid aged" or more and any resume handed out was a waste of the paper and print time it took and you get all "gussied up" the right way and get NOWHERE because most of those jobs are NOWHERE jobs that they either cant fill or turnover so fast they keep openings all the time.
True too on when a new COMPANY comes to town because the "key-good" jobs are already filled and if anything they have openings for "engineers and IT people requiring degrees from GA Tech or Yale".
Basically jobs REGULAR people are light years away from having qualifications for.
Interesting they note 2012 as if they are setting up for Obamas reelection propaganda and cant move any sooner even if they could.

My daughter and I took a drive to Washington, DC for a job fair because they said there were many job openings and career opportunities. We stayed overnight which cost. We were running out of jobs to apply for in our area. We thought we could move if a job position came up. The job fair took the resumes and some of the vendors were interested, but said, you have to move here first before we can consider you for any of the jobs. So, you have to move there without a job. That isn't what they advertised. Usually, people relocate when they find someone who is willing to hire them for their ability and experience. It is currently the over way around. All the job fairs are a waste of time, even locally. Lines and lines of people waiting. Useless.
14 months ago: Wow- not an uncommon happening!
I know-you have no money but they want you to pick up and move to where you want(with no income) and get housing and set up an address and the the 1st question on the APPLICATION?
How long have you resided at your current address?
NAILED-GONE-TRASHED RESUME AND APPLICATION!
Just incredible.
Its like all I get now if a nibble are straight commission insurance/financial cold calling sales come ons.
Please-THOSE are NOT jobs!

14 months ago: I found that they are not too big on hiring outside of the area. That's true what you said about the question "How Long Have you Lived...." I found that most of the jobs at that Fair were temp. Did you try the Contract work? Usually they are 6 mos. to one year. In that time, you get a foothold. Also, you may have all the qualificatioins, and they turn you down for one thing that may be so easy to do because you haven't done it before.

When I saw there was no help from anywhere, I took the bull by the horns sort of speak. I'm not saying our problems are solved yet, but we are headed in the right direction and there is a long way to go. I don't care about that as long as I am trying to get there. Jobs are opening. Keep submitting your resume. Just have to make it through the most difficult times and realize that you will get a job. You will find work I'm certain of it. I know it is difficult when there is no income, but you can make it. Look in manufacturing just to get something. They have office work, too. 14 months ago: Yes that is a problem and also getting proper exercise-just not good enough!
Unfortunately with no coverage and cost some prescriptions went by the wayside and another is near the end with no generic in sight.
Then I space out some of the meds that are for daily but I skip a day or so and THATS NOT GOOD EITHER-But cant keep paying for them at the rate they are going.
I know part of my physical/mental meltdown is because I am nowhere as active as I should be and thats just not coming around to my age 53-54 days that were so much brighter than my now 56-57 and that short a distance in years CAN BE A HUGE DIFFERENCE!
You would think not and thats why I say I feel 10 years older than my upcoming 57th and thats NOT GOOD either and with no career job that will support my family-thats not changing anytime soon.

14 months ago: Gary I don't take any medication at all. Maybe if I get a headache an aspirin is okay. I don't think it is good to skip your medication or change the dosage without a doctor's advice. Your state of mind from what you tell me is probably causing the inactivity. 53 -54 are the same as 56-57, and this is the best part of your life. You have to bring back the normal activity even if it is only walking a short distance, which is a good stress reliever. There is no reason for you to feel 10 years older with a little care and determination you can feel better about yourself. You should get everyone on board to pay attention to themselves in order to create some kind of positive environment. Self-esteem can really dwindle away with no work and all the other problems that come along with not working.
My daughter was telling me today that people in the Himalayas are living to 110 years old. Imagine that. They say part of it is what they eat. (Just thought I throw that in there). Try to be positive. That plays a big role in getting beyond these hurdles. It has been a roller coaster ride for most of us. I hope some of my ideas help. You probably know already what has to be considered, and it is easier said than done. Best foot forward.

You may have to show financial status. You can try that to get your prescription. Also check with your doctor, they have samples they keep in their offices.

I am always trying to understand men being that I have two sons, and men are always trying to understand woman however, for a man (my man) not having a few bucks in his wallet made him feel less of a man. While I was able to, I would slide money in his wallet and told him he was a good man when he would ask why I did it and telling him he would do that same for me. I think that your a good man and probably a dam good provider when things are good. A man that can share and be open about his feelings as you have been in your comments surely has to be good. 14 months ago: This is just lovely. Received this message from:
Unemployed Workers.org
Your quick action is urgently needed to help stop a major cutback to unemployment insurance that would set a dangerous national precedent. What was a state issue is now an urgent national issue.

In a shockingly harsh, reckless and cynical move, the Michigan legislature has approved a bill that would reduce the maximum weeks of eligibility for regular state unemployment benefits to 20 weeks from the national standard of 26 weeks, while allowing for a technical fix to continue the current federally-funded Extended Benefits program.

Now Michigan's newly elected Governor Rick Snyder has a choice to make. He can do the right thing: veto the bill, and tell the legislature to immediately pass a simple fix to continue federal Extended Benefits, but without any cuts to state benefits—and help protect working families. Or he can become the first and only Governor, and make Michigan the first and only state to reduce state unemployment benefits to less than 26 weeks—and endorse this stealth attack on working families.

So now I have to sit back and watch my last UI form go out in the mail and next weeks payment IS IT!
The severance-LONG GONE- Last remaining of my not so thriving $401K LONGER GONE!
COST OF FOOD-UP! COST OF GAS-WAY UP AND NOT STOPPING!
But hey COST OF MEDICAL CARE-ZERO-ITS BEEN LONGER GONE THAN ANYTHING ELSE!

If you need help dealing with this, look for that support around you.
My last check came back in 5/10. I'm taking a medical course that is a year long program, and it's a lot to learn. I have no benefits while doing this because in order to get that covered I would have to be on unemployment. But, I had to fight for the schooling for a year. You have the security guard training, right?
Use it to benefit you when you finish. I've watch so much of the News Reports and I gasped at the bogus information. I see a bunch of greedy louts. Their the lazy bums. If you stop looking at yourself as a loser, you won't be, and things will change for you. This bogos information and lies have been going on for long while. It is sickening. In the end, they will trip up. The Government "fat cats" are stealing from us just by taking a salary. They should not take a salary and cut their health benefits out. I'm not very happy with our Leadership. I was scared too when my last check came in. Something always happened to bring money in. Get your kids to help you if you can. Make them realize that it is necessary to do their share. Don't stop trying to get a job in the interim. It will happen for you. Sunny Chin Up.

I've been seeing the actions of the Government for months and months, and it makes me ill. I like Hard Ball with Chris Mathews and Ed Schultz. They've been good supporters of the unemployed. I keep in touch with the groups for the unemployed. This is good for you to do. You hear what is going on every day. Good to keep up with whoever has the information. Plus, you get to see all sides of everything going on. It makes you mad and angry, which is justifiable. Main thing is that you see everyone is going through this. Each day we can get through, we win. We can't give up that isn't an option. That one day you get up in the morning will be the day that something good will happen for you. If we can controll that anxiety by not thinking about what could happen to us, and concentrate on we are getting through inspite of their faults, your energy should come back. Anxiety depletes our strength. Even if the money isn't there, you can still look to enjoy life in simple ways. If they aren't going to help the people, we can make them feel and look pretty stupid. Which they are. They won't get my vote. We can't accept we are at the end of our rope, because life goes on. We have to go with the flow of it. People depend on us even if it is loving your family. Family support is important. Thank you so much Aschott for your nice comment. The 99ers will be the Sunshine of the World. Sunny

14 months ago: Gary....You need some time to yourself to think and clear your mind. This economy is brutal and has affected families. Itt has nothing to do with who you are as an individual. I'm not disgusted with you. I get it.
Look at that - your girl is teaching. How great is that? She is a light in your life. Maybe you should speak to her. You're thinking about others in your family first. So how cool is that. You are a good husband, father, and son. Your mother I am sure she has lived a good full life, and she doesn't expect anything back because what she does is unconditional love. And as parents that's what we do. We don't think about ourselves. See, I don't think one person in a time of need should bare the whole entire weight. Everyone has to pull together. You don't have to think you are a loser. That's the first step to recovering from all of this. Let other people see this in you that you will not lie down and accept it. You need their help. You took care of them. It is their turn. It will turn around. You're smart, and you can all develop into something greater than just depending on a Corporate job. If someone told me that years ago, I would never have gone into Corporate. I don't care how much money that you can make, it is not a secure career. It is short lived. I know all the people who are there for you want you to get the help so that you can face this dam demon head on. It's the economy, not you. I've seen crisis in families throughout my lifetime that had nothing to do with job loss but much more. If you need help, look for it from people around you. Families should help each other and stick together. Tell them. Also, thank you for the kind compliment. People do care.

Republicans are looking for a new population to pick up the slack on the unemployed. Looking at the kids to do for cheap labor.
Imagine this will take away from education and force kids into working. Looks like the beginning of a Master Plan to deteriorate this Country.

Maine GOP Legislators Looking to Loosen Child Labor Laws
aterkel@huffingtonpost.com
Amanda Terkel

WASHINGTON -- Far from places like Ohio and Wisconsin, Maine has become a new battleground in the labor fight. Gov. Paul LePage (R) recently sparked the anger of the union community by ordering a mural depicting workers throughout the state's history removed from the Department of Labor. Now, Republican members of the state legislature are attempting to loosen child labor laws that the community fought hard to put into place.

The minimum wage in Maine is $7.50 an hour, and there is no training or subminimum wage for students. But under a new piece of legislation introduced in the state's House of Representatives, employers would be able to pay anyone under the age of 20 as little as $5.25 an hour for their first 180 days on the job.

The bill, LD 1346, also eliminates the maximum number of hours a minor 16 years of age or older can work on a school day and allows a minor under the age of 16 to work up to four hours on a school day during hours when school is not in session.

With Maine's unemployment above 7 percent, state Rep. Paul Gilbert (D) wonders why Republicans are pushing to create a pool of cheap labor when so many people are begging for jobs.

"If we had a shortage of job applicants or potential workers, then you could look at other populations to ease that strain on the workforce," Gilbert told The Huffington Post. "But we don't have that right now. We have an excess of job applicants here in Maine, as well across the country."

The state Senate is also currently considering a bill (LD 516) that would allow 16- and 17-year-old students to work until 11:00 p.m. on school nights. Currently, they're allowed to work until 10:00 p.m. It would also allow students to work for a total of 24 hours per week, four more than current law allows. Senators on the Labor, Commerce, Research and Economic Development Committee are split along party lines on the bill, but it's likely to pass when the full body votes on it--the Senate, like the House, is controlled by Republicans.

Its called being EDUCATED.....Kids don't have time to do the aquired time to do there studies because of the hours that there worked now of days. I thank god I was able to afford things for my kids when they were in high school and even then when they decided to take a part time job there employer cared about there education and would always contact us (The parents) and ask about there grades and how they were performing in school. My youngest in college for the second year has no study time not even on weekends. Employers don't care anymore about kids and there education, my son would try and read a little when no one was in the store and he got written up for it and was told he would be let go the next time. I understand its a business but these kids need there education just as they did to be able to have a future to.

The kids are lucky if they can go to college. I'm sure your son will do well because he has your support. My daughter use to work and go to school. She was always very, very tired. Now I am so proud of her and all she does. She very rarely thinks of herself. It is always to do for others. I am afraid that the kids will have no choice but to work full time, and their education goes out the window and never get the chance they are entitled to. I am tired of it all too. This has fight has been non stop and very hard on all of us. Tomorrow let's see if they come to any kind of decision on this extension. Sunny

But you know as soon as you would say something to them about disrespecting there parents the parents would be very defensive and tell our **** off. I would have answered you earlier but Cypress is feeling lonely, I am assuming. He needed to vent some more on bashing the 99ers. but he did suggest a kool-aid stand for the March for jobs Saturday, I think grape would be a big hit. lol

13 months ago: Evy.....Those parents spoiled their kids. Yes, isn't Cypress looking for his next victim. Funny Guy...I am wondering who this mystery person would be. Your suggestion of "grape" sounds good, something like "sour grapes." Good thinking. Also, he should tend the stand and wear a tee shirt ... "99ers" What a picture! All in good fun Cypress. I believe the word would be

It does'nt bother me, I enjoy the challenge lol. When I first joined the site and posted my first post, I was shocked, how he picked everything apart and I realized pretty quickly that getting under someones skin, was only feeding the behavior of bulling or intimidated and I deal with enough of those behaviors with kids through out the day., Where I give some of my free time away from job searching otherwise, I would go crazy.

I hope tomorrow goes well. I know that most of my co-workers (friends) are meeting downtown at our unemployment office. Were hoping that there will be alot of others showing up. Alot of fliers were printed out and placed on cars at the places that most people shop at. We know that there are others because, We ended up with a flier on our car that was not ours. so thats a POSITIVE!!!!!

Well the day has come and if this does not open there eyes then nothing will and they will be the most cold hearted people who will rot in hell...KARMA sucks! and I beleive it comes back threefold. Evy

Listening to the news this morning oh and how there speaking of the job growth still. Well my phone should be ringing off the wall by now. I told Gary that I fill out applications in my sleep now lol. Can't even get a decent night sleep, the stress of finding a job is giving me nightmares. Evy

13 months ago: It is terrible to go through this. At least there will be people supporting each other there. Applications are just a road to no where. Dead end. I feel like I am wasting time and just want to get on with living again. I'm sure our wonderful fat cat elitists are happy. I had a woman tell me yesterday that my resume, mind you, that shows so much experience and background, was general information. I thought she was having a delusion and probably was looking at the wrong resume. Here is a woman who sent out a mass e-mail from a private organization showing every individuals name associated with them. I went back to her and said this is an issue of privacy. She goes, I'm sorry. This woman is working in a position of responsibility with a lot of individuals and doesn't get it. How do people like Miss Stupid hold a job, especially a State affiliated job. She went on to say that is is up to the individual to get their own job because I didn't give her a positive survey report. Huh? Who doesn't know that but again what is their purpose? She was on me to fill out a survey which I didn't have to but instead I gave them a bad report on how misleading they are. They came to me first What annoys me is that I landed a job in May 2010 and the State agency didn't like it that I did get it on my own and said I had to work with their people. They did their best to destroy it on me, which they did. I am left without a job. So much for how I got to be a 99er. It's a joke, especially when people criticize and don't see that the odds are being stacked against us. They are next.

I am sorry that you did not get the job. I am sorry that you were treated rudely and unappreciated. I feel sure that your resume was awesome and its a shame that it was wasted on a bimbo or idiot (which ever you perfer) I truely believe the State, Our Government whom ever it could be a mascot from some freaking sports team, that hires these people because there to stupid to reconize or realize any and all bull**** that passes through there hands. Its only a matter of time before it all comes to a head, all the deceit, lies and games and then its gonna get ugly if they do not get there **** together and stop making it a power game of who is gonna win (REPS or DEMS) who is gonna bow down, give in on and on and on. Its the AMERICAN PEOPLE there playing tug a war with and they need to keep there own personal agendas out of it and start thinking about us AMERICANS and CHILDREN. Evy

The Republicans don't want to give one inch to help anyone and will probably put up a tooth and nail fight. This kind of power is gained by breaking rules but not in a good sense because it is all about undermining for lining their own pockets. They are not for the good of the people in any way. When you write out your post, copy it first. This way if you lose it, just paste it back. You know what gets me all these celebrities become "shrinking violets" and don't defend the people. I haven't seen one step up. Too busy thinking they are forever young and perform and act on these music kiddie shows. They were all for the Dems. They proved themselves to be worthless. You don't get anyone to help.

13 months ago: sunny I fell the same as everyone else. No help for us , but I heard the other day that if the government were to shutdown, the congress would still get paid because god forbid it must be hard to survive on a salary of 174,000 a year. They must be struggling trying to keep 2 homes, planes, and all their other luxuries. I wish I had that problem.

13 months ago: Aschott I was thinking about how you are doing. I know I didn't anticipate any hope from these people. Sheila Jackson Lee has been fighting for the added weeks, but I haven't heard anything. That's very strange. Even if they do come through, all of us are at the end of the rope. How long can you hang on without a job? I say it over and over. Cut their salaries. I think they had tried to do it some time ago. It never happened. Wait until they are out of office. Even cut the health benefits and let them pay some of it. Save the Country a lot of money. My daughter told me of this man who had a pretty big job in a large company. This happened a short while ago. Heard he was laid off and is now homeless. Not fair the rich politicians can hold on making us bleed for them. Sunny

Aschott, I don't think even congress gets paid. If they leave it unfinished however, going 6 days with out pay is probably just a kick in the bucket for them. No sweat off there brow.

Were becoming more obsolete, we have the march for jobs tomorrow yet and depending on the outcome and if attracts publicity, we may still have a fighting chance for them to get off there rumps and create jobs. After listening to there bashing (Reps/Dems) back and forth this morning on Cspan. Its clear that there has been no job creations, just betrayal, lies.

While were being talked of as being lazy and so on, knowing themselves that we were not lazy because the truth of the matter was again.....There was no JOB CREATIONS!!!

It would have never came out my guess is if they were not threatened in not being paid. Thank goodness for C-span where the house is live for all of Americans to view and hear. Evy
