Rush Limbaugh on Haiti

Haiti has just suffered a tremendous natural disaster. The small island nation has been ravaged by an earthquake and is in dire need of world assistance.

You would think everyone would be on the same page with regard to reaching out and helping. Not so.

Rush Limbaugh Quotes

“I'm just gonna tell you, if I was named envoy to Haiti, I'd quit government. Envoy to Haiti? You can't even pick up a prostitute down there without genuine fear of AIDS."

"We've already donated to Haiti. It's called the U.S. income tax."

"This will play right into Obama's hands. He's humanitarian, compassionate. They'll use this to burnish their, shall we say, "credibility" with the black community -- in the both light-skinned and dark-skinned black community in this country. It's made-to-order for them. That's why he couldn't wait to get out there, could not wait to get out there."

This pompous azz continues to give real conservatives a bad name. His inane ramblings and racist quips never cease to amaze me. What does amaze me is that people continue to flock to this moron and then concur with his racist comments or dismiss them as not being racist.

What they need to do is “get the bone out of their nose” to quote good ‘ole Rush again and stop supporting this crap.

I understand that Rush is supposed to be an entertainer, but this is not entertainment. This is disgusting.

Since when is being a humanitarian and compassionate toward a people who are dealing with a tremendous natural disaster (contrary to Pat Robertson's belief) a bad thing?

Only this buffoon and others like him would rope a response to this travesty with political expediency and opportunism.

It never ceases to amaze me how evil and blinded by racism and classicism people can be.

I know Rush balances out the junk on the far, far left, but the world would be a better place without any of this crap.

It's really time for Americans to remove this scum from their shoe.

If Obama said that gravity and the sun coming up each day were good things, Rush would say they weren't.
If the world was just, Rush would be taxed so 90% of his millions would go to help others.

We who are in the middle and are also the majority should help them or demand that our tax dollars be sent to help them, in stead of being sent to warlords, dictators, former traitors and enemies of the USA.

This idiots behave as subhumans, but we are the real humans and we have to have mercy, kindness and generosity to our fellow man in times of need.

The people of other nations will use their money to rebuild Haiti, and what will they get for it? Where will Haiti be one year from now?
28 months ago: 163 million, that is the dollar amount we give Haiti in Foreign Aid every year. 163 million for a country that has a population of 9.7 million. By those numbers every citizen of that country should be a millionaire many times over, but again the country cannot even sustain itself. Where does that money go?
28 months ago: People like me who find rush limbaugh deplorable should just boycott the products that are sponsered by his advertisers. I would like to propose that those advertisers earmark this money, instead, to Haitian relief.

Good post but are you surprised at what Rush said? As Pat Robertson represents the official religion of the Republican Party, Rush Limbaugh represents it's cold blooded brand of ideological conservatism. Thus you have the Rebiblican Party and the Dems love it because it's gives them fodder and cover for their own ineptitudes and inability to craft coherent government policy, whether it's concerning Afghanistan or Health Care.

Harshaw,

While I believe that Haiti and many other countries have often received aid without accountability, what does that have to do with an Earthquake and thousands of people being killed, injured and/or buried alive? Can't Rush and Pat wait until the suffering and screaming is over before making their obnoxious religous and political prognostications?

I wonder if deep down Rush is honestly a racist or if he's just really good at pandering to fearful white folks.

BTW, I found a great mini-bio about Rush. Before you say anything, I recognize the anti-Rush bias. But it still has some really interesting facts about the guy.

What an idiot you are. You can't even do math...thats $16.80 a person per year. Considering the vast amounts of money large U.S. corporations have made in the past there, it is the least ....and I mean LEAST we can do.

If you don't like the relief effort, tough. Thank god we have a government again that has leadership skills. Conservatives are on their way out, becoming "Tea Baggers", and "Birthers", and worse.

I say we give those right wing nuts Mississippi and lock em in! The next Hurricane, they're on their own!

Now the same ditthoheads will ditto Rush when he makes callous political hay over tens of thousands of people dying in an Earthquake.

So the next time Rush ends up in a hospital, let's remember why there's a calloused lack of sympathy for his well being.
28 months ago: jeeze...lost my head and my math was way off....I was thinking 9 million people equated to 9 million dollars for some reason....early morning pre-caffeine daze i guess.

anyway...my point stays the same though that we give every year millions of dollars. While this is a great tragedy...and the people of Haiti need the worlds help...it would be wise to remember that had the government of Haiti spent the billion of dollars our government alone has given them over the years (not counting the money they get from other organizations) the devastation from this earthquake would not be a fraction of what it is.

Cut me a break! The man is choosing to pay for rent and groceries. He has an attitude that anyone who doesn't earn 20 million a year is simply not motivated. The guy is bad for my blood pressure.

I like him when he criticises the debasement of popular culture and of human relationships. On economics, he and I part company. I look at all the church buses driving around on Sundays and the Jewish stores closed for Shabbos, and I see the foot soldiers of a labour conservative type movement. African Americans, Orthodox Jews and traditional Hispanics have an innate natural conservatism, but it's not a "Golly send all our jobs to Indonesia!" type of conservatism. Rush Limbaugh is occasionally entertaining, but that is it.

My dream is a political platform crafted by Michael Savage and Glenn Beck refracted through an NPR format.

Pat Robertson is truly warped for thinking the Haitians brought this on by flirting with Voodoo. This is just as insane as people wanting to sacrifice virgins to the volcano gods.

Conservatives always prefer military aid over humanitarian aid, but the humanitarian aid is often more effective. When Bush aided the 2004 Tsunami victims in Malaysia and Indonesia, the popularity of the US in these Muslim nations went up 16 points.
I think that if you were to do cost benefit analysis humanitarian aid would beat military spending every time and cost just a fraction.

One could also look at the immigration policies of the past. Bush would not grant Temporary Protection Status even though they had suffered through 4 devastating hurricanes and political violence. Now Obama has stopped deportations and may be reviewing the discriminatory decision not to grant TPS.

We shouldn't cynically evaluate this aid based on political considerations. These are people, who are dying and need help, and everyone should be willing to help without any ulterior motives.

Rush Limbaugh is a racist, and Pat Robertson is very stupid to say the least.
28 months ago: Okay, now how many of you who posted a comment actually researched the quotes attributed to Rush to see if he atually said them or if he said them in the context they were quoted.

Does it make a difference that the "prostitute" comment was actually uttered in May of 2009, in response to Bill Clinton's appointment as special envoy to Haiti? Hmmm - that makes it more of a dig at Clinton, doesn't it?

He made every one of the comments, the context is unmistakable (completely classless & buffoonish to include the race baiting comments), and while he made the envoy comment back in May, he was clearly taking a dig at Haiti in addition to alluding to Clinton's propensity for philandering.

You can call it Rush's shtick and it certainly works for him, but the dittoheads tend to take it in as gospel and as I noted previous, his political opponents also use the comments to tar and feather the Rebiblican Party.

What kind of mentality would even listen to this person. Whether he is putting on an act or not, he does damage.
