Brace yourselves, the International Olympic Committee has awarded the 2016 Olympic games to Brazil. Unfortunately, the lightning storm is now just beginning. A Google search for "Racist IOC" yields over five hundred thousand results. The intention of this rant is to address each and every one of those sad individuals.
The IOC is not racist. plain and simple. Last I checked, Brazil is not inhabited by white males of Anglo-Saxon decent. My knowledge of Brazil is not all-encompassing, but I'm pretty sure they haven't had the Olympics there any time recently. Furthermore, Utah hosted them quite recently as I remember.
Thus, obviously there are ulterior motives involved with all the people playing 'the guy/gal who cried racist.' My assumption is these people are intelligent beings who know that this is a large bruise to Obama's ego (and Oprah too!). Many may think, "How can he persuade rogue nations if he can't even convince a 'committee'?" Maybe if these people cause enough of a ruckus, people will be so upset about the Olympics that they won't even notice this political blunder in disguise.
What ever the motive, I say to you, "Stop it!" Do not become the Al Sharptons of our day, crying racist so much that many will cease to take you seriously. There are many inequalities and injustices in the world today. Do not diminish our ability to fight injustice by "crying racist" every time you do not get what you want. Racism is a real problem, but try to stick to actual instances of injustice. Let Brazil host the Olympics in peace.
