Republicans May Delay Unemployment Extensions No Tier 5 99er

Can someone please tell me why this unemployment benefits extension and tax cut bill is so hard to understand and support? Whether it is short term or long term in Congresses thinking, many need the relieve NOW. However, the bickering that keeps going back and forth between party lines and within party loyalists is getting hard to keep track of. What once was promised a couple of days ago as a bipartisan agreement is slowly falling apart within the parties.

I can understand that Congress is not united in this unemployment benefits extension and tax cut bill; however, the dissension within party ranks is getting scary. At first, we thought it was just a Democratic infighting that this deal was creating. Now we find out that Republican leaders are not happy about the compromise made with President Barack Obama.

While many in the Republican Party see this unemployment benefits extension and tax cuts bill as a way to put American businesses back into the black on their balance sheets, some others in the party see it as a deep hole in the national debt. News reports have stated that possible 2012 Presidential candidate Mitt Romney is arguing that the temporary tax cuts could be too big a price tag for an uncertain U.S. economy. He is quoted as saying that, "The deal delivers short-term economic stimulus, and it does so at the very time the President wants it most, before the 2012 elections. But the long term health of our great engine of prosperity will remain very much in doubt."

As we have discussed here before, the tier 5 and 99er's groups are well represented in the community. Numerous online support groups continue to help those who are without or soon to be without unemployment benefits. Obviously, this tax cuts bill that includes unemployment benefits extensions will not help this group and relieve is not seen in the near future. However, how long can Congress ignore what the Federal Reserve expects as a 9 percent unemployment rate for next year? My original question still needs to be answered. Does Congress understand the need for relieve NOW of it's American constituents? Let's hope so...

I have looked for work, sent resumes and had interviews but no one will hire me because of my age, I'm 60 too young to draw ss and too old for rehire.
17 months ago: NOT PASSING A TIER FIVE EXTENSION WHICH HAS TO INCLUDE THE 99ER'S
WILL ONLY BE ADDING TO THE FINANCIAL DISASTER WHICH WE ARE EXPERIENCING NOW. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND THERE WILL BE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE THAT WILL BE CUT OFF FROM THEIR BENEFITS IN THE UPCOMING MONTHS WITH NO AVAILABLE JOBS TO COMPENSATE FOR THIS LACK. THE MEDIA IS NOT PICKING UP ON THIS...AND NEITHER IS THE PRESS...AND CONGRESS SEEMS TO BE IGNORANT REGARDING THIS VERY SERIOUS ISSUE AT HAND...CALL... WRITE... OR FAX YOUR REPRESENTATIVE AND INFORM THEM OF YOUR POSITION BEFORE IT IS REALLY TO LATE FOR ANY HOPE...NOT JUST FOR YOURSELF...BUT FOR THE OTHER PEOPLE SOON TO BE IN THE SAME POSITION...UNWITTINGLY.

I really hope that some kind of extension will be passed to help us thru the toughest of times.

My Holiday March To The Rail Yard Begins after New Years.

But first my hat goes off to the following 99ER supporters!
What is so sad is the shortness of the list, out of 435 members of Congress and 100 Senators.

1)Rep. Bobby Scott, speaking for the Congressional Black Caucus at Friday's press conference, stated,
we all agree that we also ought to extend benefits for the so-called 99ers.
2)U.S. Representative for Texas's 18th SHEILA JACKSON LEE for getting the Black Caucus on Board
3)Edward Andrew Schultz television and radio host speaking on behalf of 99ers legislation
4)The Rachel Maddow Show at MSN Home for keeping the question alive in interviews
5)Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow for "American Want To Work Act Tier 5 - S. 3706

Do we really want our National Guard posted and on stand bys to prevent civil unrest? Is it worth it to the GOP Tea Party millionaires at the tax cut trough, to increase costs in homeland security for all because of their obsessive compulsive contempt for the unemployed? Will it be worth then to leave the 99ER unemployed extension in the abyss?

Second of all, we have been cowards and havent done what other countries have done to get our point across. You have to fight for things folks. Just like the blacks did for civil rights!

Lost my apartment, job, phone, bank account which I'm now -600 and haven't paid a bill in months. Losing my phone was prob the best thing since creditors stopped calling. What difference does it make anymore if we get an extension. It won't make a difference. Just give up, it's a lot easier. I have. By the way I live at home again w/my parents after living on my own and having a great place for many years. Screw America, Life sucks....Suicide is thought about daily. Merry Christmas
17 months ago: Does it reach across the line to all unemployed persons? No. Is it not true that a select few in the unemployment rolls will get the next extension. What about your American brothers and sisters that are not located in states with the accepted EB unemployment percentage? Are they less unemployed? Do they deserve less that you? Why don't you come right out and say that what the Tier structure really is? Selective.

Let's try a realistic number game...

A community with a population of 100,000 with a 8.5% unemployment statistic.

That means 8,500 people will be given addition unemployment relief.

A community with a population of 1,000,000 with a 7.9% unemployment statistic.

That means 79,000 people will not be given additional unemployment relief.

Am I wrong? How can you sit there and tell me your Tier program is not selective?

During the next year as more and more people fall into the 99er category and the number of unemployed without benefits start to really mount up, the people will realize that they have been duped big time while the rich continue to get their tax cut goodies. But of course by then it will be too late to do anything about it. This is an unconscionable outrage.
17 months ago: Please. Al list of states which qualify for Tier 4? Is that a hard thing to produce? Or, are you afraid to speak the truth?

YOU AUTHORS USING THE WORDS TIER 5 TO dupe readership should be horse whipped and then clean the republicans latrines. plenty a c..p in them.
PS one person said dont run away but i am not running away i am going to
graduate to better IQ'd people.
17 months ago: Don't run off too early. Most of the conservatives have laid-off these social agenda Democrats on this site for the last few months to lett them grab a realistic notion of what the elections of 2010 meant. They have not gotten it. Trust me. War for America is about to break loose here with the commie, socialist, liberals.

Pleas loose the "CAPs" though unless expressing outrage.

Dig through my posts and see if I have not and continue to call these liberals out on that Tier 5 lie.
17 months ago: Why just blame the "Heartless Republicans?" Do u think Kerry cares about you as he is about to be handed a check for $10,000,000.00 to erect a monument for Kennedy? This in a state where the unemployment checks start out at $600 a week and max out at $1000. Not a bad job if u can keep from working.
17 months ago: Well I certainly do not get 600 a week. I actually get 1250 dollars less than what I made a week at my job. I do not get food stamps as I get too much on unemployment so how can you say not a bad job if u can keep from working. Try being in my situation having to tell my grandsons there will be no Christmas at Grandmas. My daughter did Thanksgiving buying all of the food and making it all as I was too depressed. She bought little presents for me to give to my grandsons. Do you realize what this does to a mother to have to rely on my kids instead of them on me.

McConnell looked like the idiot head of the wealthy that he is simply refusing to answer the real questions at hand saying at every chance " I wont negotiate this in the press". Afterward John Kerry blows him away with the facts and he shied away from nothing.
Kerry gets it. McConnell should be ashamed of himself.

17 months ago: Sorry for the double post. I urge you all to take 30 minutes of your time if you havent seen it and watch the above discussion and the positions of both sides. While I thought little to nothing of McConnells words, it seems to me that John Kerry has a real grasp of what this country is facing not only in the issue of UC but our position as a world power as well. Meanwhile, Mitch doesnt seem to be able to look any further than a veiled interest in making sure that the Yacht Club stays intact.
My only disappointment in Kerry is his failure to address directly the plight of the 99'ers.
Kudos also needs to be given to the position of the Congressional Black Caucus for taking a stand. Quite honestly, its about time groups such as this take a stand on something bigger than just the issues of their race only.
17 months ago: Now is this the same Kerry who registered his multi-million dollar yacht in RI so he didn't have to pay taxes to his home state of MA? Yea he has a grasp. He is a phony like most of the Democrats. Do you think he REALLY cares about you as he boards his private jet? PLEASE.

17 months ago: Happy-
Sure, its the same Kerry. Look I dont begrudge the wealthy for being so, just be kind enough to consider those who are not and those that are struggling. John Kerry is a good example in my opinion. He has a world of wealth and doesnt need to have any consideration for struggling Americans but he does, and he makes something that is missing in todays world and that is good common sense. Conversely Mitch McConnell had absolutely nothing. When cornered with questions he folded up like a tent.
17 months ago: I am 48 years old. I have exhausted my benefits. This is my first time ever being on unemployment. I do not understand why this is so hard for them to decide on. I went back to school within months of losing my job. I will graduate in February, but will have to take more classes as I am finding out that it is hard to get a job without experience in medical coding and most places want you to have a 2-year degree. I will be graduating at the top of my class, but that does not matter. I am not a deadbeat and do not consider unemployment as a form of welfare. We paid into this so we would have an income in case of situations like this. So the people that are saying we are not looking for work is wrong. I even moved 500 miles to another state away from family in hopes of finding work. Every week I spent time searching the web for jobs and sending resumes out without any luck. I have a spreadsheet that shows what I sent out each week. I have had a total of two interviews and that is with sending out thousands of resumes. I used my savings to pay off medical bills instead of just not paying them and paid off whatever else I could so now I do not have that money to fall back on. My 401K is gone. I am willing to work anywhere and 2 to 3 lower paying jobs to make ends meet. If someone would just give me a chance. The interviews I had feedback was: I was over qualified. If I am willing to take the lower pay and lower position don't you think they should give me a chance. For the government to not pass something at least a few weeks at least until companies start hiring like they are forecasting is inhuman. There will be more crime as people try to feed their families and keep a roof over their heads. There will be suicides, depression. How can they pass the tax bill and keep funding a war and not help the ones right here who desperately needs it.
17 months ago: You may ask yourself why Obama promised we would be out of Afghanistan by July and now he says it won't be to 2014? Why did he increase the troups by 5 times?

While he is on his flying palace heading to HI for Christmas do you REALLY think he cares about people like you?

You can blame Bush and the Republicans for starting this. But what has Nobama and the rest of his Democrats done to stop it?
17 months ago: If we 99ers have our houses and cars forclosed on, who will bail out the banks????

Oh yes, the gvmnt will bail out the banks, with our tax money.

But they wont help the 99ers. MERRY CHRISTMAS............
17 months ago: HELP THE 99ers! What does 8 million people unemployed and in desperate need of a tier 5 extensions to survive REALLY LOOK LIKE?
Its 8 times as many people redistributed by Katrina (1 million plus affected). There are more people UNEMPLOYED, then all those who were killed, injured, or displaced in both the 2010 Haiti earthquake and the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami (COMBINED!)
NYC(Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, etc) is home to more than 8 million people. PICTURE ALL OF NYC UNEMPLOYED, BY NYE 2011.
The population of Miami is 413,201, with 4.5 million people in the surrounding area. Miami is the 4th largest metropolitan area in the US and that ONLY represents the number of unemployed TODAY! Maybe knowing that roughly 4 million people currently live in Los Angeles, represents all the unemployment this very moment! IMAGINE ALL OF MIAMI AND LA, AND THAT'S HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE CUT OFF FROM ANY BENEFITS! WWII May 1945, the month during which the war against Germany ended, the United State's Army was 8 million soliders strong. CAN YOU PICTURE A COUNTRY ALLOWING THAT MANY PEOPLE TO WITHER AWAY INTO POVERTY? ALL THOSE TROOPS VISUALLY REPRESENT THE MAGNITUDE OF THE UNEMPLOYED CRISIS!

Here's what 8 million will mean come by the end of this year; irionically, about 8 million people in the world die of poverty in a year. Are NEW slogan will soon mimic the Flintstones Kids - "Ten Million Strong and Growing!"
