Renew The Homestead Act Now - Let Americans Feed Ourselves

The fruit of misery is wisdom.

Unfortunately, wisdom nourishes only the soul, and not the body.

In order to survive, Americans need real, tangible fruits, and vegetables, and grains, and meats, and clean water, and clothing, and houses, and sources of heat, and sources of light, etc.

It is now painfully obvious to all that a technologically advanced society cannot provide enough jobs to gainfully employ all citizens at living wages.

There are many solutions to this dilemma.

One solution is to renew the Homestead Act, allowing naturally born American citizens to lawfully gain title and deed to federal lands west of the Mississippi River.

Agriculture is the root of America. By granting land rights to American citizens, millions who are willing to work the land will at least be granted sustenance.

Americans understand that not everyone can be a billionaire and own yachts, planes, sports cars and multiple mansions.

However, Americans cannot understand why millions should be denied food, clothes and shelter.

The United States government must immediately make available unoccupied federal lands for American citizens to live on, where we can build our own houses and grow our own food. Why let millions of Americans starve, when we can provide for ourselves if given the opportunity?

Americans can live without modern conveniences.

We cannot live without food.

7 months ago: Squatters. But then again nothing changes. Now they will be squatting on government land. Hey Bud. I vote NO. Take your rear out and purchase your own 40 acres. Don't forget your mule. Pay taxes on it and maybe just maybe your 40 acres will be enough. I don't think so....What is next? A pigStead, cowStead, horseStead or seedStead act?

You do know that in California they grow weed under lights in apartments?

Thought so, but then again the Federal Government is stepping up efforts to enforce Federal drug laws. So, you must be pissed that your corner "Medical Marijuana" store isn't able to purchase your stockpile.

What exactly would you be wanting to grow on your squatted land?

Cucumbers? You have no clue.

Cities like Detroit are giving away hundreds of abandoned homes. A lot of the citizens are clearing the sites and starting up gardens in some of these abandoned places. Head up there and become part of those communities. http://www.bvonmoney.com/2011/02/16/detr...

Most of the federal land left is here in the West and up in Alaska. People in this area depend on our federal lands for timber and wilderness areas to preserve the last few wild things in the world. 99% of the forests in the country have disappeared due to things like the homestead act. http://www.ciesin.org/wild_areas/

Unfortunately you need some money and if you think having a job is hard you wouldn't like subsistence farming. You have pretty rough winters too. Most of the farmers and ranchers I knew in Montana worked from dawn to dusk and had to have full time jobs on top of that to keep the places running. During the 60's Lots of Hippies moved to the country to try to live on their own. Not many could do it.

I helped raise goats up there for a while and I bet there are only 5% of the population that would have the skill, determination, and hard work, necessary to be successful in that life.

The schools established programs starting the students in small businesses right in their towns. This tow was featured where the kids enthusiastically got involved in opening a small grocery store. People were struggling to get food from long distances away just for milk and bread, and they brought this small store back starting with a few essential items. This Town was once a thriving mill town that employed 1000s but the Town died when the mill closed. They have about 900 people in the population. The people involved with this push to rebuild their town, said this was just the beginning. Meanwhile this starts the creation of jobs. I am sure this trend will catch on all across the Country. Americans will always find a way to rebuild.

7 months ago: PD.....People are planting gardens for food. People have been doing this in Third World Countries and aren't doing too badly.
As far as homesteading, a lot of it has been stopped. But there are still ways to pick up land, without a big pricetag.
This is the link for the town fighting back:
Rural grocery stores fade, but some towns fight back
Rural grocery stores are being reinvented by town councils, coops, even high school students. http://www.csmonitor.com/Business/2011/0...
