Jesus came to abolish religion." -- Jefferson Bethke

Truthbrary wrote a piece the other day titled, "Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus". http://www.rantrave.com/Rave/Why-I-Hate-... and posted a video by a young man named Jefferson Bethke.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IAhDGYlp...

This is a powerful video garnering its fair share praise as well as criticism in some circles but apparently not here. I was surprised that a topic such a as this one has generated interest but only a trickle of comments.

Here is another spoken word clip in very much the same vein. In many ways it is even more powerful than Bethke's because is unveils more of the depth and detail of the Master's plan.

G.O.S.P.E.L.

God Our Sins Paying Everyone Life. His work, not ours.

Jesus came to abolish religion? What DOES that mean? How could Jesus come to abolish religion? Didn't Jesus establish a religion?

No. He did not.

Jesus DID come to abolish religion. That may sound strange, but it is true.
Jesus DID NOT come to destroy the Law but to fulfill it.

Religions are human inventions, and are based on trying to get to God through rules and regulations and works. Human made religions ALL are based on people's efforts at reaching God and being made right with Him through their own good deeds. Some won't even admit that they are in a hole.

Jesus taught that our righteousness is rubbish. Garbage. Filthy rags, if you will.

If one doesn't understand or accept that fact, they cannot be His disciple. Stop quoting Him and saying what a great moral teacher He is. Don't bother. It's all or nothing. He didn't leave other options open. He claimed to be THE way, not A way. Not our works, not our ideas, not our politics, nor our morality. None of that is sufficient to bridge the gulf. Only He can do that, not religion.

Just ask around. Most folks who consider themselves to be either "not religious" or "religious non-fanatic", or go to church only on Mother's Day but no real animosity toward the church, believe that if there is a heaven or might be a heaven, they will make it there by their own good deeds or righteousness. That's where they are. That is their religion.

These folks believe that somehow their "goodness" is going to outweigh all their sinful and all their bad behavior. They believe that any REAL and LOVING God would accept them just as they are. Period. Sin and all, warts and all, repentance or not, evil attitude and bigoted notions along with every other piece of baggage they have. Either that or THEY reject Him or better still deny His existence.

Others say they see no evidence of intelligence or design in the universe. None. They claim to really believe that and yet still have the audacity and temerity study nature and copy into their designs what they say shows no evidence of being designed! That makes a lot of sense, doesn't it? Talk about irrationality.

And check out their relatives.

Oh, and don't let E.T. send a couple of blips from space either. You'll have a stampede to telescopes, Geiger counters and testing equipment that will outdo the best stampede on Black Friday.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUcOaGawI...

Religious zealotry at its best. That's word.

There are other folks who claim to hate religion, and to HATE Christians and Christianity in particular. Their lens tells them -- Religion is a crutch; Religion is the opiate of the people; God is a delusion; religion is for the weak; blah, blah, blah.

Yet, they too are religious. Yes, believe it or not they are. But you say that to them and they want to fight you.

They don't even realize that they just confessed the tenets of their faith. No God, but still religious. They are on the throne. They are their own gods. The ultimate in self-righteousness. Religion at its zenith.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-righte...

There is a religion which often times doesn't even understand, much less admit that there is something seriously wrong with us. Or if admitted, the problem is always with someone else, not with them. "I don't murder, cuss, steal, don't beat my wife, or gossip, so I'm okay." They are deceived.

There are other pragmatic souls out there that are simply reticent to stick their neck out in any way. So they choose to live a life of spiritual ambivalence or ambiguity. "You can't really know for sure until after you are dead, so why bother? Live a good life and hope for the best." Sounds good. Very religious.

Some would call Christianity a man made religion, but it is not.

Jesus did not bring religion, He did not bring deception. He brings REALTIONSHIP. There is a huge difference. Only He is willing and is able to get us out of the hole.

The condition of the soil where the Word is planted is extremely important. It's a matter of our hearts. http://www.spurgeon.org/misc/sower.htm

What kind of soil do we possess? Are we hard hearted and hateful or at least open to His words? Words of love, forgiveness and acceptance; but on God's terms not ours.

Religion says DO. Jesus say DONE. Religion says SLAVE. Jesus says SON.

Christianity IS based on a person, but it IS NOT an invention of man; it is a revelation from God. Not everyone believes this. Not everyone sees this. However, that does not stop it from being the truth.

There is no such thing as your truth and my truth. Truth is not relative. Truth is objective. Truth is truth.

God's plan for human kind's salvation and for being right with Him has been revealed. Revealed ultimately in His Son.

God's plan is not based on people's efforts and good works, but is based on His amazing Love and amazing Grace for us. He lived the life the best of us could never live and He paid a debt for us the best of us can never pay.

G.O.S.P.E.L.

God. Our. Sins. Paying. Everyone. Life.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b28JIoP-r...

Did you watch? Did you listen?

That's the Good News. One may not like it, but at least don't hate.

Christian's who don't understand it, spiritual folks who don't understand it, and so-called secular folk who don't understand it need to wake up. We should at least make it that far in understanding where Jesus is coming from.

Religion is like spraying perfume on a casket. One can even put clean clothes on a dead body, but there still going to be a stench. White washed tombs filled with dead men's bones. RELIGION.

If we are counting on our deeds to merit eternal life, we are in serious trouble.

Religion says do, Jesus says done.

The choice is always ours. Do we have it right?

Thank you for reading,

Imagine No Religion - John Lennon.

That will never be. Humankind is inherently prone to worship something. That is the way we have all been created. Our worship does not have to be religious however.

In a very real sense, some religion is better than "no religion."

The suicide rate amongst young people has skyrocketed exponentially in the last few decades. Why is that?

It is because their faith has been stripped away and they no longer feel they have any hope. "What difference does it make" they now feel. "We are all just evolved pond scum so why bother?" That's the new religion.

That is what is being shoved down their throats by mandate. That is tragic.

This culture is sick and it gets sicker every day. The value of human life has literally been flushed down the toilet. Many feel if life is painful so they may as well end it. Survival of the fittest right? Many feel they are supposed to die.

The religion of Secular Humanism is killing the kids. It is up to the parents to wake up and instill some value back into their children. Children should not rear them selves nor should they be turned over to the government or municipal education system.

It starts with us. Young men like Jefferson Betheke are a breath of fresh air in a spiritually polluted world.

1 month ago: You don't have to walk the walk, huh?
1 month ago: Hi Red,

Walking the walk is evidence of it, not payment for it. We cannot merit God's grace or forgiveness. There will never be a point where we can say God owes us or we deserve acceptance, based on our good behavior. It's all grace. The walk is the evidence but our faith is in Him not that.

1 month ago: Great job Huey!
1 month ago: Huey you speak of grace. "God's plan is not based on people's efforts and good works, but is based on His amazing Love and amazing Grace for us."
Did you ever notice how some people seem to be lucky, and they are blessed constantly in one way or another. They are never stuck in the mud for long, and if they are, it is only temporary and appears to be a learning period for them, or a time that they have to experience. These people are constantly growing and moving forward. Sometimes these choosen few don't particularly do anything seemingly to earn it in effort, but they must be in some form. From what I have seen, these people are taken care of monetarialy, even if it isn't that much, but they never have to worry about where their next meal will come from. I see it as a strong faith in God and a purpose to fulfill something unique whether it is in the smallest way, possibly to help another get to where they are going.
1 month ago: What about what Jesus said in Matthew Chapter 7, verse 21:

"[21] Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven."

I agree it's 100% God's grace; however, it appears to me we have to "set the table".

1 month ago: To RSG - you are right in that regard. There will be a "setting of the table." We position ourselves to receive. Kind of like catching a football.

Salvation is a gift and our first step of obedience is receiving it on God's terms.
Meaning we come to Him empty handed and knowing that we don't deserve a darn thing and that He does not owe us anything regardless of how good we have tried to live our lives. If we stack up our goodness against His holiness we will always be found wanting.

Our dependence is on what He says makes the ultimate connection and that is our RELATIONSHIP to His Son, not our 100% obedience or Religious observances and traditions.

1 month ago: "Faith without works is dead"

Our works demonstrate our faith. Our righteousness is credited on the basis of our RELATIONSHIP to the Father thru the merit of the Son (Jesus).

"You will know the by their fruit"

Any person who claims to be a disciple of Jesus Christ yet is hateful, unforgiving, judgmental, or living just a raunchy life is either deceived or a liar. Those things cannot co-exist in the life of a child of God and then those individuals have peace in their sin. Again, it boils down to evidence. A changed life is the evidence or proof not the guarantee.
Religious observance is not the pathway to salvation. RELATIONSHIP with Jesus the Messiah is.

Just like during the Exodus. In obedience the blood was applied to the doorposts. Obedience was the step to position, but the blood was the guarantee. The blood we now have on our account however, far outweighs that of livestock.

There is no reason to live in doubt as to our deliverance.

In Christ, not In Religion. Wouldn't want to be anywhere else come Judgment Day.
1 month ago: Yes, that is the way I see it too Red.
1 month ago: It all comes down to if you are an ardent church goer, you must go out in the world and practice everything you are taught.
Sometimes working for mankind runs in a family. Maybe it will skip a generation, and then it comes back to get you. It is something that has to be fulfilled. Those are gifts. I agree with everything you said. Nice to have an understanding. Many don't know anything about it. I would think there is a kind of restlessness in not believeing and a feeling of loneliness.

1 month ago: I don't think we are rewarded for carrying out deeds either, we can't expect pay back. I do believe that there are people meant to make things happen in life, and they are blessed with talent and strength to carry out their mission for the benefit of all mankind.
1 month ago: Sunny -

God has given all of us special gifts talents and abilities. These gifts will only find ultimate fulfimment when we use them to His glory.

Diligence always provides a payoff. It may not always be on our timetable or according to our plans, but the hand of the diligent person ensures their own success.

There is never a need to depend on luck when one can live in the Blessing. God never promised us easy, but He did promise to be with us and never leave or forsake us when we come to Him on His own terms.

He also promised that all our needs would be met. That doesn't mean that we will never have hardship. But what that does mean is that ultimately we should not live out all our days on this earth in poverty and lack while depending on Him.

We need to throw away religion and get with His program. That's when the real adventure begins.

Did you watch any of the videos?

1 month ago: Right.
I wasn't referring to luck in that sense. I was saying how people will look at others and say they are lucky but in reality, they have grace that they are blessed with.
When a person goes to a church on Sunday or Saturday, whatever faith they are, it is something that is done to come together in God's house. There is nothing wrong with religion as long as good things come from it. Many need to worship together.
I can't stand anyone who goes to a meeting which might be a cult and go out in the world and not know anything about goodness or good deeds and practice weirdness. This is brainwashing.
1 month ago: I was out all morning. Will watch them tonight.
28 days ago: Sunny, please watch at least check out the first video. I would like to know your thoughts.
28 days ago: Okay. I'll do it right now.
28 days ago: Sorry I didn't get the chance to see all of the videos earlier.
The G.O.S.P.E.L. caught my attention. I listened to everything he said. He has a good sense of God. He is still young and will learn more as time goes on. At least he is looking for an understanding of God.
Where he says, "Good Acts Are Selfishness", I differ in my opinion. Without those good acts, anything that looks hopeless wouldn't have a start. Dealing with matters of so called celebrity status saying they are responsible for certain charitable projects isn't always as wonderful as it appears. You can never get their projects to work easily, there is always red tape. Most of these only are designated to certain funding. They are way over priced in things, such as computers, radios, and equipment, and you pay big time. That is pure selfishness. They want the publicity from it. Not all of them are like that.
We finish a project and see it grow and develop that is enough. For instance, a person from no where stepped into our school building project, knowing nothing at all about it, not putting in time to research it or bring funding to it wanted to take it over right from under us. We used our own personal monies and time when needed and never thought twice about giving or helping. To me that other person was working off of selfishness, because they wanted credit and reward where our people involved never looked for it. That type of a person doesn't have a good understanding of doing God's work. They take credit from others for their own selfish motives. When you do God's work somehow you find yourself growing and moving in a place where you can do more for him and help more. Our project is a genuine reality. We are very happy and humbled by it that we were given this great privilege to be of assistance to God and received guidance.
Also, I do know that religion is man made. I do believe Jesus came her to put things in order and to bring us His law such as the 10 Commandments. I know He died for us. You can work off of that alone to have a good life and know truth. That says it all. Some people are of this world and think on that level, and others tend to be spiritual and have one foot in heaven. You have to have a little of both to live in the world. I don't see anything wrong with attending church services. I don't see anything wrong with saying a prayer before a sport's event. Many look forward to that. I respect all faiths. I respect atheist for their views and beliefs because they still believe in something even if it isn't God. Everyone finds God in time and learns more about him. I hope I answered you. I have to look at the other videos.
1 month ago: It has to be Christ 1000 percent.
1 month ago: My ways are not your ways.

Who can know the mind of God?

Don't judge lest you be judged in like manner.

If you only knew that I desire mercy and not sacrifice.

True religion is to love the widow and the orphan.

In this manner you shall pray, "Our Father…"

God is love.
