Record Profits for the Insurance Industry

Recent studies indicate that Private Health Insurance Companies are making record profits for the third year in a row. http://www.californiahealthline.org/arti...

Despite averaging 30% profits the Insurance Industry is still raising rates an Health Insurance Policies.

The Republican Health Plan would do nothing to lower medical costs, but it would force everyone (unless you are an old fart like me) to buy private insurance.

This means that on average the old folks in the future will have to come up with an additional $6500 a year to pay for Health Care.

Just looking at the math here. Medicare is a non profit organization, so right away Medicare is 30% cheaper than private Insurance.

Then Medicare costs for administration is only 3% compared with 30% for private Insurers. That is an additional saving of 27%.

In other words the Republicans want to INCREASE medical costs for our old and infirm grandmothers and grandfathers by 57%!

This is a good argument for going to a nationwide Medicare for all program. That is why every other developed nation in the world provides better health care for All of their citizens at half the cost.

85% of the people on Medicare like it. Medicare for all would not be a new bureaucracy, it simply be an expansion of an existing program that everyone likes (except the Insurance companies and their Republican lackeys).

Those that can't pay can just work it off with community service.

Vermont has passed a single payer health care system. If they can provide the same service as the private insurers from the Red states for 60% less more and more states will switch to Single payer non profit systems. http://www.wcax.com/story/14518224/vt-se...

There is some talk of Oregon and California joining up. If they combine their buying and bidding power they would also reduce drug costs considerably.

This is how Canada became a single payer system. Innitially all of the provinces had their own independent plans but 1 or 2 tried Single payer and it was so much cheaper than eventually they all went for it.

I think eventually what we will get in the US will be a universal single payer system for all that covers the basics, but then the rich folk will be able to buy into supplemental plans that give them the Cadillac service they have become accustomed to.
