RR needs to up the spam post timer to 3 hours

Here we go again. I don't think the spam timer is working. Just look at the new post section below this rant. That is before they get deleted. Seems the 30 minute rule still has allowed a major spam posting. No? You decide. I say set the timer to 3 hours and if that does not work set it to 6 hours.

Even with the addition of a captcha they are still posting spam.

15 months ago: If their being flagged and deleted the system works. If they would go on and close the accounts of the spammers it would work even better. If they banned their ip's it would be even better.

The situation we're in isn't the as much the fault of the spammers in this case as it was on the site manager -s who were asleep at the switch when those guys got thru to g-news.

Now if you wanted to add a three hour timer to the comments section I cold go for that. Seems a lot of folk just like to stir the pot.

The site hasn't lost ranking. and it hasn't been delisted. I think goggles algorithm was partly responsible for the service picking up those spam posts. I imagine they shut RR down down while they figure out the problem. Google news probably also sent R&R some text about monitoring their pool.

R&R would not be held accountable by either Google-News or Adsense if certain writers were trying to game the system as R&R has no way of controlling what visitors do when they read a story. Both of those services would simply dun the accounts involved and cancel their service. Blacklist their ip's and be done with it.

R&R on the other hand will be held accountable if they allowed the spam posts to be pooled for the G-news bots to take. But other then that It's probably a hang in the system.

Nice place! I have been accused of plagiarism and spamming with in a few hours of joining :) Although I thank Slim Pickens for looking...Too many get away with it if no one says anything.

The excess use of "99er" by some IS actually harming the site. RR has seen a view spike cause more people wrote, but it's not worth the Google slap. Articles about unemployment or 99ers are not inherently bad. RRs without
SUBSTANCE or repetitive content are contributory.

RR needs a pop up box for flagging so people can add the reason to help mods. Right now there are low quality, spammy articles on the site.

From RR - Permitted Uses and Terms of Use for all RR writers:

Uses:

*You must do Your best to create High Quality Rants and Raves.
*You may only use Content to which You have the necessary rights, including (but not limited to) intellectual property rights regarding copyright, trademark, and trade secrets. You must have permission to use third party content from the content owners.

Terms:

*Create Rants and Raves that include any Content or links that is pornographic, defamatory, libelous, tortuous, vulgar, obscene, invasive of privacy, racially or ethnically objectionable, hateful, promotes or provides instructional information about illegal activities, or promotes any act of cruelty to animals.
*Engage in behavior designed to manipulate the proprietary Rant and Rave rating system.
*Contains misleading tags and/or titles that don't match the Rants and Raves content, including irrelevant/excessive tagging.

RR let a lot slip. People who are abusing RR, and unfortunately, it's hurting the site and others. The watch now posts pushed the site overboard.

Quality is paramount to a website's survival. Google is coming down hard on sites with low quality. RR really needs to take some drastic measure to make up for what wasn't in place.

It's harder to catch up.
