"This is the world of the fragile state -- a world that is a grim reality for an alarming percentage of the global population. A quarter of the world's human beings live in the 60 worst-ranking countries on the 2011 Failed States Index (FSI), which examines the year 2010. Here's a glimpse of their daily existence."
http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/20...I love to look at postcards... but not these. I love to study faces... but not these. I love to see pictures of foreign places... but not these. I love to see pictures of children... but not these. BUT I visited every picture presented from the worlds 60 worst ranked countries... because I believe everyone must. The pictures aren't "that bad" ...because we are not there, living and breathing the tragedy. The pictures aren't "that tragic" ...because they are not of our families. However the pictures tell a story of despair and hopelessness...
a narrative that will never end for some until they die... and a tale that will go untold because it is uncomfortable and unpopular.
Someone said that this world is Hell... yet as sad as it may seem, there are also stories of incredible heroism, love, generosity and gratitude in the worst places on the planet.
IF this slide-show doesn't cause one to pray for those in the pictures...
it should cause one to pray that this reality doesn't become our own.
