Health care costs ridiculous for uninsured

Heartland Hero here, ranting about health care costs. Yeah this is a hot button issue that recently hit home for me and my family.
On mothers day I found my mom on the floor, she had had a stroke. On a scale of 1-10 it was like a 7. Scary situation for anybody, but ambulance got her to the hospital quick and saved her life.
She was in the hospital for a combined time of about 2 months. She is doing well, slowly she is getting ability back and the outlook is promising for the future.
Her overall health is the MOST important thing to me at this time. But once the blur clears you are left with figuring out how to pay for all of this. My mother has worked two jobs in professional feilds for quite some time, but niethier of them offer health insurence...so now we are struggling.
I have cashed in my Roth IRA, borrowed money from my grandfather sold some stuff I owned, and it is still not enough.
I have applied for SSI, and Medicaid. any we are still waiting for an answer. The wait is literaly eating me alive, I try not to show the worry in my heart to her, because it will not help matters. There is really no reason she should not get approved, so does not have any assets she has dovoted much of her life and resources to helping wildlife.
My overall purpose of the rant is not to whine about how rough it is...because it could be alot worse. but honest people have to sit around for the government to make a decision to help. While my faimily goes broke the Government collects dust on our application.
I wish that there was a way that there was an agency that verifies that you are quality people not scaming the system....that fronts you some cash to float while you application collects dust.
I know that, that will never happen, but it would be cool. I just wish that sometimes life could throw a little more of the "bone". We have been very fortunate so far but to continue on with some dignity....we need more "bone".

10 months ago: My condolences and i hope your mom does well. I just spent two years caring for my folks and I was very grateful for the government help (Medicare and VA). We applied for MediCal and SSI but they really have to be broke to qualify.

It takes a long time because they are also strapped for cash and under staffed.

My dad also had a stroke. I would recommend you tie up your mom's good arm to force her to use the stroke side to keep those muscles working till the brain rewires. My dad gradually lost the ability to use that side effected by the stroke. Exercise is good.
