"More than 1,100 women are raped every day in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), making sexual violence against women 26 times more common than previously thought, a study concluded Tuesday. More than 400,000 women and girls between the ages of 15 to 49 were raped in the vast, war-ravaged country in central Africa during a 12-month period in 2006 and 2007, according to the study published in the American Journal of Public Health. That is 26 times more than the 15,000 women that the United Nations has reported were raped there during the same 12 months."

My question is where is the outcry? Where is the invasion of troops to save the brutalized? Why the UN underestimations of this human tragedy?
IF this was the case of only 100 Harp Seals... or merely one officials daughter held hostage or being in danger... the global outrage may have been different. Why the cover-up... and downplay to what is going on in the Democratic Republic of Congo? 1,100 daily rapes! IF this was North America we know what hell would be made to pay... how sanitized some distance makes to the "Global Village" responsibility.
The sadness is that this has been known about for some time, and how long will it continue before some political leverage can be made to make someone take notice,
or get reelected.... maybe that's the point...
...heck I would vote for the one who finally did something!
"It is almost impossible to describe the level of suffering and despair in the rebel-controlled territories of the Democratic Republic of Congo. As I write this piece, I just received news that between April 2 and 3, the Lord's Resistance Army carried out a horrific attack in the northeastern Congolese village of Sambia, ensnaring two volunteers for my organization Groupe Lotus. One of them was raped, tortured, and murdered."
