Obama Wants Healthcare Vote Right Now

No matter what side of the fence you sit on concerning healthcare reform, President Barack Obama is pushing the final vote hard. Obama has said that it is time for Congress to vote on it and get it passed. Even if that passage is by the slim Democratic majority that Congress currently holds. Obama has stated that he believes that this is too important to be delayed by the politicians and after more than a year of debate.

According to the President, "Everything there is to say about health care has been said and just about everyone has said it," Obama said. "So now is the time to make a decision about how to finally reform health care so that it works, not just for the insurance companies, but for America's families and businesses."

The Obama Healthcare plan is supposed to include ideas that came from both the Democrats and Republicans. Obama wants his plan started and not placed on hold while Congress continues to argue over details on their plans. Republicans are advocating that both bills passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate be 'thrown out' and that we start again with a systematic approach.

Obama is firmly against that option stating that "Given these honest and substantial differences between the parties about the need to regulate the insurance industry and the need to help millions of middle-class families get insurance, I do not see how another year of negotiations would help."

The Democrats have been preparing to pass a final measure in the Senate without Republican support through a process called reconciliation, which requires only simple majority approval instead of the usual 60 votes needed in the 100-member chamber.

Using reconciliation to pass the final healthcare bill is a two-step process. The House of Representatives would approve the Senate bill and changes to the Senate bill that the House sought would be passed separately through reconciliation.

Expect a huge wave of opposition from the Republican side of the aisles. Their hands may be tied with the vote, but you can be sure that considering the state of the economy in our nation, they will be screaming about priorities.

Obama has bent over backwards allowing Congress to try to do it it's own messy way and that didn't work too well with one party working to stop any reform.

He gave the Republicans every chance to do their job and to participate and he included many of their ideas in his plan, but they remain obstanantly oposed to any reform. See: http://www.democraticunderground.com/dis...

Obama refuses to roll over on this. The insurance companies keep increasing costs 20-40% per year and they continue denying coverage or claims to almost 30% of the people that tried to work with the existing system. We cant continue this unsustainable course.

The Republicans want him to throw everything out and start fresh which is just their tactic of keeping the status quo. If they were serious they would trade their votes for the Republican issues Obama adopted.

The big philosophical difference is that Republicans just don't think the government should worry about the 30-40 million uninsured, and the Democrats realize that it is morally wrong to allow 45,000 people to die each year because they can't get insurance.
23 months ago: Obama has bent over backwards? His doctor can't even get him to stop smoking, cut his bad cholesterol. His wife, Michelle, grows a healthy eating garden to promote health to the world and we hear the president needs to work on "moderation of alcohol intake"? I was reading another blog and ran across a reason that I feel needs to be addressed in the Presidents current situation.

His ''Mother in Law'' lives in the White House with Michelle.

Man, That would drive me to drink just thinking about it.

Nobody thinks he is doing anything right. That would drive me to drink and I don't touch the stuff.

And yet he takes on this job because he loves the country and is doing his best to solve the myriad problems, and I think we should give him our support.

The only criticism is that you don't exactly have the reconciliation process completely explained, but it is a long and tedious thing so its not a big deal.
