Obama Says Police Acted 'Stupidly'

WASHINGTON -- President Obama says police acted "stupidly" in the arrest of prominent black scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr.

Obama says he doesn't know all the facts about the arrest last week in Boston. Gates claims he was arrested in his own home, after showing ID to police who responded to a report of a possible burglary.

But during a prime-time news conference on Wednesday, Obama says blacks and Hispanics are still singled out for arrest disproportionately. The president, the first black man to hold the nation's highest office, says he's a testament to the progress minorities have made. But he says gates' arrest in his own home is a reminder that racism "still haunts us."

I can't believe i voted for this idiot. I am ashamed right now. OBAMA said he does not have all the facts, but decided it was ok to make an assumption that the police acted in the wrong and called them stupid. This is quite foolish of him. After his remarks i'm not sure if hes much better than Al Sharpton.

If Prof Gates were in a different neighborhood, it may have been a different story. Doesn't he realize he could have been shot to death? Give the cops what they want and be calm and respectful. You can get blown way in times like these even unarmed and in your own home. People can cry "level playing field" and "race card" all they want but a black man breaking down a door is in "open Season." That's the way it is.

As for Pres Obama's comments, he needs to focus on more relevant issues like the economy, foreign relations, and the horrendous abortion genocide that continues to be a blight to this nation.
