Obama Commencement speech: What Was He S

I am sure that most people have heard about the Obama speech at Notre Dame and the arguments surrounding abortion. Here is my real question, what kind of speech should a commencement speaker give? Well I know the answer to that.

The commencement speaker is supposed to give a speech addressed to the graduating students of a graduating class. The speech is supposed to give the students advice and a message of promise into the future. In fact, today I went to a graduation at my old college and the speaker was none other than Obama’s cabinet head for transportation in the White House. His speech used his personal success of fairness and understanding as a way for every student to earn non-monetary success in this world. His speech was promising and was full of really good advice for a 22 year old ready to move into an uncertain future.

Obama on the other hand used the stage for a place to appease the voters of this nation. He disgraced Notre Dame by running a PR campaign during the student’s graduation. He never once talked about how to be successful in this world. He never once gave them a talk of promise, he never focused on the students that have sacrificed a lot to gain a degree from a highly respected university. He focused on himself and his presidency.

I do not care about what side any of you readers are on, but I will say that this was an insult to any university graduation by bringing political conflict into a time of celebration that is focused on the achievements of students. Shame.

These young people have been sheltered enough by the hypocrisy of their Catholic upbringing and need to realize the real world they are about to enter. I'm proud of our President for delivering a speech about truth and not the shrowd of truth these young people have been led to believe by their cover-uped hypocritical parents. Truth is our only way out of this difficult situation that liars like the Catholic church have dug us into.

Why don't you actually read the speech and get back to us. It is far beneath you to post such a weakly researched post.

You have to understand these libs, including Jackstraw and Coloranter Raver, are going to hear what they want to hear, and they are going to see what they want to see.
You couldn't be more correct and right on base.
You saw it and described it just the exact same way I saw it and would have described it.
(Coloranter Raver, are you going to start giving out blue tinted grades? Don't pretend you're not.)

"sheltered enough by the hypocrisy of their Catholic upbringing"

"the shrowd of truth these young people have been led to believe"

"cover-uped hypocritical parents"

"liars like the Catholic church"

I'm not Catholic, but sheesh. Regardless of what you believe, those are some harsh words toward any group of people!

36 months ago: I did so more research on commencement speeches. I have read a lot of the speeches that people have given. The speech is supposed to leave out politics and current issues and focus on sound personal advice for students. However, I have read the last four President's speeches at commencements. All of them used the stage to push a political agenda, Bush focused on welfare in 2001 and Clinton used the economy. Obama was just fallowing the mistakes that others had started. I retract my statement about what he should have done, he did what two Bushes and a Clinton have done in the past.

That said, It is embarrassing that political agendas and conflict have to enter a celebration of students that have taken huge risks to obtain that degree. To me it is not respectful to the college or the students to bring conflict into a graduation, regardless of what side the speaker is on.
