On the following website, it is reported that a black man beat the tar out of a white man because the black man said white men aren't allowed to listen to rap music.

This black man said only black people listed to rap music.

When the white man said he'd listen to whatever he wanted to, the black man beat the tar out of him.

22 months ago: I consider rap (and all its variants/related styles) to be otic excrement - s**t for the ears. I have no idea why anyone - of ANY color - would want to listen to it. But I would not gainsay their right to listen to it any more than I would want someone to tell me what music style I can listen to.

I do not like the idea of "hate crimes". An assault is an assault. In a society that paid more than lip service to the concept of equal justice before the law the ethnicity of victim and/or assailant would be irrelevant to the issue. Unfortunately that is not the case today. As Mr. Smith from Fairview said. in today's world "Only white people can be racist." Actually Racism is pretty much limited to white, male, Christian, heterosexual people. Anybody else gets a pass for all sorts of bigotry.

The sad fact of the matter is that white heterosexual Christian males are the only group in the U.S. today that CAN be discriminated against. If such as we were to be so stupid as to attempt to complain about discrimination, we would be laughed out of whatever agency we were attempting to lodge the complaint with. I know. I was stupid enough to try it. ONCE! A couple of decades ago.

Besides the assailant was a juvie - 14 years of age. He is unlikely to even be arrested much less prosecuted. No way they could get a conviction on that even in Florida. Now if the guy had been PACKING . . . But Florida is not a traditional open carry state. Open carry is only lawful in Florida while engaged in, or going directly to and from, lawful Target Shooting, Hunting, Fishing, and Camping expeditions. Am not quite as old as Ron (59 on Monday next) but I have a couple of medical conditions and being faced with a mob (only takes 7 to constitute a mob in TX) I would likely have drawn down on the crowd as soon and the young hoodlum began to advance upon me. In defense I would raise the issue of my age and health and the number and ethnicity of my attackers.

Crying damn shame.

I have been the victim of overt racism by more than one government agency. I was once told that I would have had a job for which I applied except for two utterly disqualifying facts. 1) I had gained some education after graduation from high school and thus had "too much education". 2) The man was quite straightforward with me and told me flat out that if I were Black, or Hispanic and if I had dropped out of High School they would have hired me in an instant.

I once took a job with an Hispanic-owned firm and was told up front that I was being hired as a "token white". Once the firm got a - VERY lucrative - government contract they dumped me. Didn't need me any more.

Now, once again, Madam, exactly what part of my post indicates racism to you?

I'd like to share a maxim of my own devising.
Only a blind man can fail to notice the color of another man's skin.
But only a fool draws conclusions based upon that single observation.
FYI, I used the word "fool" in the Biblical sense i.e. a moral degenerate.

Now, Ms Sharon The Baby Boomer Queen, kindly document where anyone in this thread - I say again THIS thread - wrote something which could be considered deserving of being characterized as being "racist". Where did - on anyone else - write something that you consider to be indicative of racism? Facts, madam, not assertions, facts are what is called for.

But I digress. Instead of childishly calling people names, I challenge you, Sharon The Baby Boomer Queen, to demonstrate where I - or anyone else in THIS thread - has written something that you would consider evidence of racism.

Oh and for the record, I have 4 half-black nieces and nephews along with a black great-niece. I also have 3 Mexican American step-grandchildren and a half Mexican American, half Japanese grandson due around Labor Day. So I could not be less racist. I would give my life for any of my family.

Facts, Madam, facts. Or will you continue to follow the general pattern of the left and shout epithets and make baseless accusations instead of offering evidence to support your assertions.

So which could fairly be called the "party of institutionalized racism", Republican or Democrat?

22 months ago: All of us have harbor a certain amount of racism. It has been my experience that minorities that have suffered from racism are themselves a bit racist. Latinos for example may look at the lightness of the skin and consider those with more Spanish blood superior to those with more Indio blood. Blacks likewise have bought into the white view of beauty and prefer the light skinned with fine features to be superior.

Racism is like Fear, Everyone experiences it. What makes the person good, bad, or heroic is how they act on that emotion.

22 months ago: Bad Cyborg is partly right. At one time the Republicans were more liberal and the southern Democrats more bigoted, and the Republicans did pass the civil rights legislation in 1875. The 1964 law was first proposed by John Kennedy and then pushed through by Johnson after his assassination. It was opposed by Southern bigots like Strom Thurmon and filibustered by Robert Byrd both Democrats, but it was a Democratic Congress that passed the law.

While I personally have never been beat up by a "Civil Rights" gang, I have been shot at, stabbed, pistol whipped, jumped, mugged, beat down for turning down drugs on the street.

I realize that you had your own struggle growing up...but I assure you that what I dealt with in Chicago is far more violent (in terms of the type of violence) than anything you have ever seen.

Moving on: Have you ever seen someone get shot in the head? I have. Have you ever seen someone get stabbed multiple times? I have. Have you ever seen someone get curb stomped? I have. You assume too much too in that because I am younger than you that I have therefore never experienced anything. You need to wake up and realize that you are not the only person who has a brain and a set of eye balls. You have no idea what I have seen or been through in life so the fact that you assume anything about me is just as bad as me assuming things about you (on this point, I have never made an assumption about what you have experienced, I attack your points on the merits, or lack thereof, not on the fact that you may or may not be older than me) and for the few assumptions that I have made it was mostly out of a hasty response than an actual attempt to address you and for that I apologize.

21 months ago: What I have observed here is that those on the left, despite their alleged greater intellectual capacity and enlightenment, seem unable to articulate their position without ad hominem attacks and assertions utterly without any accompanying facts. When asked to give examples of something they simply resort to more name calling and ad hominem attacks. On multiple occasions I asked BBQ to give an example of statements made to that point that she considered to be racist. She has yet to offer any.

We on the right, on the other hand, seem to be able to clearly articulate our position and to provide supporting facts. It is amazing that we who are alleged to be brainwashed drones, utterly in thrall to Limbaugh, Beck et al would appear to be much better able to articulate our (allegedly 2nd hand) beliefs than the supposedly superior statists.

Why is that? Could it be that the accusations and base canards hurled by the left are nothing more than examples of what the psychologists call "projection"?

One final note. I find that absent missing digits, it is anatomically impossible to point the finger at someone else without simultaneously pointing THREE fingers at one's self.

I have seen things that FoxNews has told you is true...I have seen "facts" according to Sara Palin...but I have never seen actual facts. In the meantime, I point out section after section of the Constitution, which according to a few of the right wingers here is the document that we are supposed to follow (and apparently a document that I hate because I enjoy using the entire thing not just the sections that I agree with), and I get accused of being a communist, a socialist, a nazi, a traitor etc. etc. And with that I say NAY, it is the right wingers on this site that resort to ad hominem attacks. Why is it acceptable for a PHYSICIAN - a HEALER for goodness' sake - to take the life of an innocent? Why would it be wrong for a representative of society to take the life of a convicted malefactor? Surely some crimes are worthy of death, aren't they? Would not a person who drags another to death behind a pickup truck DESERVE to die? I never use the "deterrent" as a reason to support capital punishment. You are entirely right. It is no "deterrent" at all. Actually, prison time would not appear to be a deterrent for ANY crime. For impulse crimes, the actor is not even considering the results of his/her actions. For career criminals they either do not expect to be caught or do not mind the slight (in their minds) possibility of actually being punished for their offenses.

What I like about capital punishment is its FINALITY. One can always be released from any so-called life sentence. There is always the possiblilty that the convicted person will be set free to prey once more upon society. What capital punishment has a real effect upon is RECIDIVISM. From what I am able to find out, once they get the needle in the arm those folks pretty well NEVER re-offend. Correct me if I am wrong, but the recidivism rate among executed murderers approaches zero. One short session with a needle in their arm and those guys are turned into model citizens.

First trimester abortion does not end a human life...execution does. To me execution violates cruel and unusual punishment laws. On a side note I am opposed to abortion after the first trimester in all cases except when the life of the mother is at risk.

It is hypocritical to complain and try to stop someone from having a procedure that is legal and does not harm human life while supporting the execution of a human life.

As for death penalty vs. life without parole. Assuming that reasonable measures are taken and the individual in prison is not proven innocent with new evidence etc. then life without parole is just that...life in prison. I prefer this method because I would rather have the satisfaction of knowing that the criminal in prison has to sit there and rot every day and think about what he/she did to get there whereas, to me, execution is an escape for the criminal. If I were ever convicted of murder I would much rather be executed than sit in a 4 x 8 cell for the rest of my days...
