I went grocery shopping to the same place I always go. I've been going there for about the same time I've lived in the area - a couple of years now. I don't mind the lines or that a product isn't in stock; but what does peeve me is the fact that this one cashier can't take no for an answer. I usually try to avoid her if I can. But when I can't I have to mentally prepare myself for the usual.
cashier: "Do you want to sign up for our credit card?"
me: "No thanks"
cashier: "Why not? You save 10%."
me: "I know, but no thanks."
cashier: Starts scanning my items at a slower rate. She smiles. "Are you sure?"
me: Yes.
cashier: "But you save money. Don't you want to save money?
me: Thinking I should've just left the groceries and ran. "Yes I want to save money" But I don't want the card.
cashier: "But it's 10%!"
me: "Yes, you said that already. NO thanks."
cashier: Looks up and smiles, eyes wide open as to say are you sure? Then reluctantly gives me my change and receipt.
me: Finally on my way out!
cashier: probably thinking..."I'll get her next time...next time.

Has this ever happened to any of you?
Make me feel better by saying yes. LOL

40 months ago: Sorry, no. That has never happened to me. If I said 'no' and they kept pestering me, I would just ignore them or get sarcastic.
40 months ago: Yikes! This has never happened to me before, but I'm never in a grocery store on the same days or at the same times, so it's usually a new face every time.

This is my advice to you:
Next time, cuz I'm sure there will be a next time, when she starts asking if you want to save money, and you tell her yes, you do want to save money, and she says "But it's 10%!" You should reply with, "You're right! I think I'll start shopping at the store closer to my house with better prices! I'm sure I'll save WAY more than 10% if I start shopping there! AND! I'll bet they won't try to get me to sign up for something every time I go in! Thanks, thanks so much for your inspiring "How to save money" motivation! GREAT!!!"

And cheerfully take your bags, change, and simply walk away.

I dunno... I'm a really sarcastic person, and people who refuse to let go realllllly irritate me!

Good luck!

40 months ago: Yah that happens to me a lot when I am in book stores it always happens.
cashier: do you want our discount card?
me: no thank you
cashier: you sure?
me: yes thank you.
cashier: you can save and you get coupon emailed to you. *stops checking me out completely*
me: no really I don't want it but thank you.
Cashier: ok are you sure it will only take a second.
Me: no thank you I really need to go.
(that doesn’t stop them though…)

and so on and so forth....I gave in once in borders just so that I could leave and meet up with my family in time...
yes I feel your pain jeanyang.
40 months ago: I can't stand when they try to pull the "save 10%" line on me when I'm only spending like, $20.
40 months ago: Christoph... that is SO TRUE!!! Save 10% now (even though it's only going to be $0.40!)

You should all move to Washington... they don't ever bug me and bug me and bug me. They ask, I say No Thanks, they say Okay, smile and continue with the check out :)

Although... I must say, we DID "sign up" yesterday! (Ack! Don't throw any tomatoes!) But it was on a $350 purchase, and we had a 15% off coupon. The 10% was taken *in addition* to the coupon we had! Yeah! for saving $75! That was worth it!
