Video: Days after the devastating earthquake in Japan, damage can be seen for miles at a stretch over Sendai, Japan. It is being estimated that nearly 10,000 people may have died in the quake and subsequent tsunami. (March 13)
http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/u...Dramatic new pictures have emerged of a tsunami wave smashing into the Japanese town of Miyako on Friday. The wave crashes over the seawall carrying away everything in its path, including cars and boats. (March 13)
http://ca.news.yahoo.com/video/world-221...It is hard to imagine the horror people are faced with... trapped in a cataclysmic event without hope... alone without guidance without food or shelter... and then like a light in the distance they have arrived to provide comfort and understanding to this chaos... but the light they see is that of a news team to catch the priceless video of destruction and pain.
Heartless capture of tragedy... prepped with the latest product placement, or off-beat antics for some multinational corporation, ready to get you nestled-in while you await the latest gory footage. I wonder if popcorn sales are up in times of devastation like this... you can't hope for better ratings! While tears are wrenched from lives as bloodied images fill the screens ...soulless cameramen rush to record...
...as real heroes rush to rescue.
It would seem the very worst of mankind is revealed in times like this, unconscionable comments posted below videos reveal the evil waiting to burst upon the page... as it splatters it's foul face, one can only wonder if it could even be human. But in the midst of this natural tyranny... it is also evident that many throw themselves into the wake of devastation to comfort and rescue those who share a common fate. Prayers don't seem enough, yet it won't stop the flood of them, that will enter into the presence of God... seeking a morsel of understanding, hope or courage.
It is effortless to cast a fist at the sky in times like this, or a bitter verdict to a seemingly vacant Heaven... yet to those in the midst... there is a powerful presence of Spirit that can preserve a soul in peace beyond comprehending. These are the testimonies that have come from tragedies, these are the miracles in such horror... onlookers can only doubt what survivors and those who don't experience. Be assured of two things... our prayers and efforts are desperately needed by those now... and someday others prayers and efforts will be needed by us.
Some would say that this is our coping mechanism, and that there is no hope beyond the grave... much less in this world. I disagree. I have been at deaths door personally, and witnessed the deaths of those who are closest to me, both in suffering and in peace.
I have seen also the fear and the disparaging of those without hope or consolation...
...yet my God is mighty to save, and His love casts out all fear.
We all have our appointment, some sooner than others... yet the greater tragedy is evident not in those who loose life or those who barely survive... it is epitomized rather in those who are callous and wicked, who add insult to the injured by their lack of compassion and empathy. Death is a surety, but so is life... life that is worth living and dying for... God bless the wounded and troubled; with more comfort than the filled and the excessive could ever understand...
"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth... Matthew 5:4-5
