Minnesota Attempting to Ban Smoking on County Property

Minnesota is proposing a ban on smoking on all county properties. The law goes really far because they are even calling for a ban even if you are smoking in your car while it is parked on county property. I know over the recent years there have been many smoking bans across the country, but as a non-smoker I do not have a problem with people smoking in their own cars.

There are counties in Minnesota that want make it so smokers cannot smoke outside of their homes. This ban is being request because there are complaints that smokers are constantly violating the rules on smoking so many feet away from a building. Many are still showing complete disregard to others that do not smoke.

So the goal in Minnesota is to stop smoking in as many public places as possible. Will it work? I truly do not think this is going to work. What are they going to do, send security lurking through parking lots looking for people smoking in cars? It would be too hard to enforce. I just don't see companies paying extra money to watch over people in this capacity. Right now this is what is being proposed, we will see if it actually passes into law.

15 months ago: I love to see government in action. In Minneapolis, you can't drive red cars down Lake Street, its the law.

15 months ago: This a joke I got a call Friday for a interview but they didn't hire people who smoke. I blame this on our government wanting there cake and eat it too. First they tax smokers out the ****. So cigarettes cost a arm and a leg why the government makes money off the smokers. Then they sue tobacco companies and fill there pockets. While they give tobacco farmers money. Recipients of Tobacco Subsidies from farms in United States totaled $944,104,000 in from 1995-2009. This is a joke. If there was a scam this sure sounds like one. People die from smoking so is our government making money off the deaths of the people. Is this why they don't make cigarettes illegal. They just step on the rights of all Americans telling us where and when we can smoke while they kill us. They need to butt out, if i choose to smoke that's my choice. And as a tax payer public lands parks beaches streets we all own. they have no right too tell us where we can smoke outside.

The government already thinks they can tell me who I can sleep with, marry, what substances I can take into my body. Now tell me I can's smoke in my own yard, in a country founded by slave owning tobacco farmers.

I am moving to Mexico. At least I won't have to learn another language.

...no I'm not literally saying we need to shoot, but smokers or not, it's a right on your own property to do so. I am an ex smoker and I would still fight to the death, my rights as an American.

So I have to agree, let them come to my house and tell me I cant smoke outside. People die for freedom every day. It is nothing new in this country. I don't want my kids to smoke but I definitely want THEM to make that decision. NOBODY Else's decision.
