Minnesota is proposing a ban on smoking on all county properties. The law goes really far because they are even calling for a ban even if you are smoking in your car while it is parked on county property. I know over the recent years there have been many smoking bans across the country, but as a non-smoker I do not have a problem with people smoking in their own cars.
There are counties in Minnesota that want make it so smokers cannot smoke outside of their homes. This ban is being request because there are complaints that smokers are constantly violating the rules on smoking so many feet away from a building. Many are still showing complete disregard to others that do not smoke.
So the goal in Minnesota is to stop smoking in as many public places as possible. Will it work? I truly do not think this is going to work. What are they going to do, send security lurking through parking lots looking for people smoking in cars? It would be too hard to enforce. I just don't see companies paying extra money to watch over people in this capacity. Right now this is what is being proposed, we will see if it actually passes into law.
