Was Michael Jackson another casualty in the government's push to keep us in the dark about what they are are really doing while we gasp in (insert emotion here) at the latest headlines about an aging pop star icon? I personally loved MJ's work, and I feel saddened by the loss, but isn't the timing a bit coincidental?
Few people I know are aware of the cap and trade legislation passed today in the house, and what it is going to mean for our economy. It is going to result in much higher hidden taxes that must be passed from supplier to consumer in order for producers to remain in business. Tax the rich always means tax the poor, because they just pass it down the economic food chain.
It also means that the government will have the right to regulate everything produced in the United States, under the guise of "going green".
Seems like Iran is always there too, to lend a helping hand when we need something to focus on, rather than what is happening right here under our noses.

35 months ago: Ok my advice on how to improve our own wallets is this:

KEEP THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF OUR WALLETS!!!!!!!!!!!!

My grandmother was the queen of thrift, she washed out her old tin cans to use for another purpose, the milk bottles, breadwrappers, twist ties, everything had a second purpose, and the trash she took out each week would not even fill a walmart bag.
She also liked to tell how they would capture the wild pigs that lived on her land. She and my grandfather would build a pen in the woods, and put a pile of corn about a hundred yards from the pen. Every few days, as the pigs ate the corn, they would put more corn closer and closer to the pen. Finally, as the pigs became accustomed to the corn, and the pen, they would put the corn inside the pen, and when the pigs went in to get the corn, they closed the door.
The door to our pen has been closed already, but thankfully we are not mere pigs.

That is why the Homeland Security Agency has classified conservatives and protestors as potential terrorists

35 months ago: So many topics! I’m just going to pick and chose which to respond to.

SS, sorry, just keeping your tires air up and changing the oil will not make your vehicle last an additional five years, at least not if you live outside the city limits and drive it more than twice a week. They are made to last about five years max, at least GM, Ford and Chrysler ones. The plastic that most of the parts are made out of won’t last outside a laboratory more than five years. Once the grill and switches and interior start to fall apart, and then the other parts you can’t change easily start to fail, most people get tired of them and buy another. That or spend a fortune trying to keep everything working. It’s called “design obsolescence” and all manufacturers practice it to some degree. Why do you think a US car manufacturers warranty is so short! If they want people to believe their vehicles are worth buying, then guarantee them for a decent time period like Kia does.

Where in the world am I going to get enough money to go buy new appliances? And I’m not alone in that boat. Sure buying energy star appliances will save a few dollars a year, no where near enough to buy anything because you still have to pay to operate it. If your new appliance will run on $20 less energy a year, that is only $20 you saved for 12 months ($1.6666 per month), and that appliance will cost you a heck of a lot more than that and you recommend buying more than one new appliance! You might ekk $100 a year in savings by buying all new appliances, since that will set you back at least $2600 so will take 26 years to recoup your cost, not very frugal. (washer and dryer, 800, refrig 1200, water heater 300, dish washer 300, these are cheap ones). Plus you still have to pay to use them. I’m all for buying energy star when the old one fails or gets in such disrepair that it is not feasible to repaid, but to just go out and buy new ones is stupid.
35 months ago: Being frugal is definitely the way to go. Buy in bulk, hand it down, pass it around, whatever it takes to keep it out of the landfill. Let’s do it smart and not just throw out everything and buy new because they operate a little cheaper and let’s not waste what we have. Just because you already wore that outfit once is not reason to toss it, it will wash.

As for cap and trade, all I see there is more expense for me and a drying up of available choices.

As for MJ, he wasn’t murdered; he took too many chemicals to control his emotions, his mind and whatever. I take more than seven prescriptions a day and the number of them has little bearing on what they do.
