Medical Marijuana for OCD and ADD Patients Considered

Only in the state of Washington and maybe California, could this be considered. It seems that there has been a petition to state officials in Washington State to allow medical marijuana to be prescribed to individuals who suffer from attention deficit disorder (ADD) and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). This petition is the attempt by a group who has in the past tried to get a mental illness, any mental illness to qualify for medical marijuana. Previous attempts to get mental illness disorders to qualify for medical marijuana have been denied by Washington State officials.

The State of Washington has offered legal medical marijuana since 1998 to patients with either terminal or debilitating conditions such as cancer, HIV, glaucoma, multiple sclerosis, or ongoing pain. However, mental illness has never qualified in the state for the legal use of cannabis. The State of Washington has indicated that they will consider the petition for medical marijuana to help with attention deficit disorder and/or obsessive compulsive disorders on January 11th of 2012.

For those who are familiar with the effects of medical marijuana, how does it help in relieving the issues of ADD or OCD? Watching those who partake in medical marijuana seems to just increase the effects of ADD. Most who indulge in cannabis find that the effects usually include major attention deficits and the lack of being able to stay focused and on task. My humble opinion is that this new petition to have a mental illness included for qualification for medical marijuana. Hell, if all it took was ADD to qualify, my teenage kids would be the first on the list.

I don't believe it helps people with illnesses get relief from pain without any side effects. Anyway there is medication for just those illnesses. Any medication is risky because it takes about 20 years of investion by the FDA to really see how it effects a patient. I can't believe they want to use mental illness as an excuse to have legal access to marijuana.
Anyone who is a stoner and out of it most of the time has some kind of a mental disorder if they have to rely on it. So, by giving it to people with mental problems only will inhance their desire for marijuana to keep them oblivious of life and their senses dull and unresponsive.

Marijuana and many other natural drugs have far more beneficial effects than any other drug around, especially prescription drugs. It's basic science.

For my conditions, its bad enough where half the month I can't leave the house for days and when I can, I can have flashbacks in public. This is not a fun experience and it makes holding a job or doing anything considered "living" extremely difficult. Prescription drugs do far more harm than good, not only do they harm your internal organs and physical eat them away but the prescriptions available for mental illness also CAUSE suicide and suicidal thoughts/acts among a great portion of patients. They CAUSE depression, and many other worse symptoms. Prescription chemicals are far more dangerous and just not good enough.

I fought for freedom for this country. Part of that freedom is being able to CHOOSE the medical treatment you want, whether other people agree with it or not. Just like you have freedom of religion, no one's outlawed catholicism or mormonism yet because they're not the mainstream thought, why should medical treatment be anyone's business?

As far what it'd do for PTS and OCD, it would relieve the anxiety that keeps you from living. It helps you fall to sleep without taking "coma" pills. It helps with appetite when you can't eat because "there's something wrong" with your food.

Believe it or not, the high feeling is the most disliked part about medical marijuana and there's many strains that reduce this. I personally don't like the feeling, but if it can help me be normal why should it be denied to me? I thought America was for free men.

People have the right to choose what they want for themselves as long as they hurt no one else, a nanny state is NOT what I fought for.

Many plants in the rain forest do hold the key to healing. We have more to think about. There are major diseases out there that need to be treated and science has not found the answer to curing. If marijuana has the benefit of stopping pain and anxiety as you said, then it is needed, of course. It has to be prescribed, not have a free for all with people being high, as you said, it is the worse part of it. This drug is abused by people that can't handle this drug.
War to me is the most vicious crime on the face of this planet. We throw our young men and woman into it. Their hearts fight for freedom for their Country. They are doing a job that has no fringe benefits, accept to hurt them. They are well aware of this but fight to protect its soil so no other violent foreign dictators move in on us. It hurts our American soldiers, and to me our veterans have never been treated well when they come home. Once back home, you have to be a civilian again, and fit in. It doesn't mean that you are forgotten or that your suffering has been forgotten. Their are many citizens at this point in the economy have no medical care and are dying from lack of it. They have no food, no shelter. It's bad out here. Look around you. We are in a big troubled country. You have to look for a solution for yourself. Drugs are temporary, you need something that will change your moods and feelings that are an alternative to that. You shouldn't be thinking suicide, although I know that it is difficult not to with your condition. I feel terrible that you are going through this. I've seen PTS in many families, and it is hard to watch a person go through this. This can last a lifetime. There is nothing wrong with thinking there is more to rely on than a drug.
