Larry Vega observed the onslaught on Miami's MacArthur Causeway. He told CNN affiliate WSVN he saw one stark-naked man chewing off the face of second unclothed man.

The victim was taken to the hospital with missing flesh and sources say his face was not recognizable.

The witness says both the men appeared to be homeless and he believes the attacker may have been on drugs. (Maybe bath salts)

"The individual was shredding him to pieces with his mouth, so I told him, 'Get off!'" Vega told WSVN. "You know it's like the guy just kept eating the other guy away, like ripping his skin."

"It was just a blob of blood," WSVN quoted Vega as saying. "You couldn't really see, it was just blood all over the place."
Vega said he flagged down a passing police officer.
"When the officer approached him, told him to stop,

pointed a gun at him, he turned around and growled like a wild animal and kept eating at the man's face.

Drugs can cause someone to go into a difference world, doing things that we would not do under usual circumstances. This really takes the cake, I would not put my face close to an animal, and now maybe a human being as well, could you imagine your girl friend is on drugs, and you are kissing and she decides to eat your tongue and maybe your lips as well?

11 months ago: Bath salts, also known by street names like "Ivory Wave," "Vanilla Sky," "Bliss," and "Purple Rain", made headlines last year after a rush of emergency room visits, thousands of calls to poison centers and several deaths. The man-made, synthetic drug is made from amphetamine-like chemicals and causes a unique combination of effects on the brain.

"If you take the worst attributes of meth, coke, PCP, LSD and Ecstasy and put them together, that's what we're seeing sometimes," Mark Ryan, the director of the Louisiana Poison Center, told the New York Times.

The powdery substance comes in a small packet, and can be inhaled, swallowed or injected, according to a report from the National Institutes of Health.

The drug is manufactured by street chemists and sold in convenience stores or online, often legally. Sellers were able to sell the drug legally since its emergence in 2009 by marketing the substance as either bath salts or "plant food" or "insect repellant," and stipulating "not for human consumption" on the label.
