There is a series of cartoons that Charles Schultz drew year after year of Lucy and Charlie Brown. Year after year, Lucy offers to hold a football in place for Charlie Brown to kick. Every time, at the last minute, Lucy pulls up the football, leaving Charlie Brown sprawled on the ground, deceived yet again.

Even though the Arabs are open about their desire to wipe Israel off the map, Israel's willingness to return to negotiations with the Arabs reminds me of Charlie Brown's willingness to be fooled again and again. Unfortunately Israel has a lot more at stake than Charlie Brown.

Melanie Phillips, a British journalist, captures the absurdity of Israel's situation. In an interview with Israeli television, she paints a vivid picture of Israel's willingness to deceive itself and the western world's willingness to join in this deception.

In the interview presented below, Phillips draws a vivid picture of the battle for world opinion, a battle that Phillips believes is being lost miserably by Israel. It is well worth while to listen to the plain unvarnished truth presented by Melanie Phillips.
