Has the lost city of Atlantis been found. There is some recent hype that Google Earth may have discovered a grid of streets on the ocean floor off of the Northern coast of Africa, which could be the streets of the lost city of Atlantis. So sorry Coloranter that this may not be the answer to the mystery of Lost, or is it...

The Google people have issued a statement in response, saying, "It's true that many amazing discoveries have been made in Google Earth, including a pristine forest in Mozambique that is home to previously unknown species and the remains of an ancient Roman villa. In this case, however, what users are seeing is an artifact of the data collection process. Bathymetric (or sea floor terrain) data is often collected from boats using sonar to take measurements of the sea floor. The lines reflect the path of the boat as it gathers the data." This answer seems a bit easy and contrived, and many Atlantis enthusiasts are a bit put off by the easy "cover-up." I for one suspect that there will be more information breaking on this discovery, and more cover-ups to follow. Either way, live on conspiracy and legend.

39 months ago: What I don't understand is that if these lines are created by boats taking sonar readings, why arent these lines shown everywhere the boats go taking this information then? Why are the lines located centrally on this area? Boats don't take sonar information anywhere but there? WEAK EXPLANATION!
39 months ago: I agree, it is a weak explanation at best, and at the least a cover-up of something we are not supposed to know!
