Since it is Friday. I can set my timer for the usual onslaught of Live Stream Spam posts to read while I have my first cup of coffee (about 4:00 am central) tomorrow morning. My guess is that they will begin showing up in about 12 hours. It will probably be another 4 hours before everyone starts to flag them. Except me of course. I get up early. My guess is they will begin removing the Live Stream posts along with the authors around 10:00 am central.

15 months ago: It's 5:00 a.m. Central. I saw that this headline started with "Live Stream" and my pulse jumped a notch. I was a little disappointed when it wasn't a spam post. I've had the pleasure of deleting two accounts so far this week, dealing with the same "live internet streaming sports". I wish you all could have had a finger on the button with me.
15 months ago: Morning brother. Glad to see you on the job! I'll spot them for your shot.

Looks like the Chrome blocklist extension is the main difference in the new algorithm. The more people that block a website from the search results, regarding the information as basically useless, the lower it falls in the rankings.

But I see a problem with that from the get go. Let a bot trojan turn on blocks to a website, and suddenly thousands of bot computers are blocking a website from search results.

Another problem. If the algorithm relies so heavily on user input, wouldn't Chrome have to be in constant communication with Google?

This Google algorithm change is not related to Chrome. They're actually two separate things.

Here is an excerpt from the official Google announcement:

...in the last day or so we launched a pretty big algorithmic improvement to our ranking—a change that noticeably impacts 11.8% of our queries...This update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites—sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites or sites that are just not very useful. At the same time, it will provide better rankings for high-quality sites—sites with original content and information such as research, in-depth reports, thoughtful analysis and so on.

Chrome is the Google browser, so that's why they can offer the domain blocking extension on it. Essentially, it is in constant communication w/Google and Google can access data to see what domains are being blocked by people. Google created the extension for Chrome because of so many complaints by people about "content farms" and spam, low quality, and duplicate content in the first page(s) of Google. It's basically an addon that people can use if they want.

Google mentions that there was overlap between sites that were "demoted" due to the 2/24/11 algorithm change and sites blocked by people using Chrome.

So this change makes it really important for RR to review its content rules. When I've mentioned Google changes and "low quality" in some of my posts it's been because Google has been saying they were going to make changes and penalize sites. Ultimately this Google move can impact RR. It all depends on how Google sees RR's post quality, etc.

Hope that helps clear things up a little or at least gives ya some more info. It's definitely something that RR wants to pay attention to as Cypress mentioned.
