Jay Carney has just been named the new Press Secretary for President Obama, and many are calling foul. Carney was formerly a journalist for Time Magazine, but that's not all: he's also the husband of Claire Shipman, the senior national correspondent at ABC News. Some think having the husband of a major network correspondent is a conflict of interest. Shipman often covers political stories at ABC, and is also known for far left activist tendencies.

During Obama's campaign and subsequent election, Shipman could not refrain from singing Obama's praises, dubbing him "Obama the Poet" during his primary run against "Hot" Hillary Clinton. Shipman has also been known to interview activists for issues such as unemployment extensions without full disclosure to the public.

Obviously Claire Shipman will be an outspoken Obama supporter no matter what her husband Jay Carney does, so his position as press secretary doesn't seem like it will make a big difference. If Shipman were known for unbiased reporting skills and suddenly changed to an overt left extremist there may be need for a conflict of interest analysis. As it stands, however, for Claire Shipman, worshiping Obama is just another day at ABC News.
