Reading and browsing through Rant Rave each day, the subjects are getting worse. Or should I say that the featured top 5's are getting worse. We have blogs about fairy cakes, square eggs and 99ers etc. etc. etc.

As I looked at the site today I saw an article about green freaking, oval barbecue. This barbie got 20,000 plus hits. How unimportant is a green oval barbecue? You could put an old biscuit tin on top of a fire and get the same results.

What about real issues the people that live on the streets, what about the violence and gun culture, the N.R.A., discrimination, sickness, intolerance to things we don't understand, jobs, serial killers, pollution, global warming, war, religion using God as an excuse to anything and justify anything through deliberate misinterpretation of religion?

Would a blogs on 'how comfortable my shoes are', or 'My lawn needs mowing', my niegbours had his hair cut, or my dogs got an itchy arse. Would they get multiple hits like the green barbie?

Now Alex what inspired you to write that article. Did you have a life changing experience with the green tin (or can). Did you have an out door party and your guests were flabbergasted with the success of a cooked burger? Did the big green tin make your processed meat and processed cheese taste better than an ordinary tin can?

Tell me the secret, am I missing something?

Anyway, regarding the Big Green Egg, two years ago (when that post was written) I was in the market for a BBQ and I was looking at all the latest and greatest gas grills. After much research, I decided charcoal was the way to go and the Big Green Egg was the best one I could find.

I wrote the Rave as a product review and it has slowly but surely gained higher and higher view count. This wasn't a post that automatically gained 20,000 views overnight. It has consistently received about 1,000 views a month.

Also, its not tin. Its ceramic. And yes, it makes the best burgers I've ever had.

Yes I did do the post on square eggs and I put that in the list as it was trivial. I did not want to run down peoples posts without including my own. The Big Green Egg may make a good burger, but it does not make good reading (to me). I like the site, it's my hobby it makes me think and understand where others are getting their slants on different issues.

It doubly good for me as I am English and it's good fun to relate our different cultures. I picked your green egg out because you are an administrator, if I had done that to anybody else it would not have been fair. No ofence to your clay egg or you, just trying to get some passion in the blogs.

That green egg takes me back. We used to barbecue in a sawed in half oil drum. It cost nothing except a couple of hours of hard work. You could cook twenty chickens at a time, hundreds of sausages and burgers, and a whole cow. It was hard to eat all that when there were only three people at the barbecue, but it tasted fantastic. The food had just the hint of oil flavour but that made it better. The trouble with these days people buy things instead of making them.(see my new shoes). As well as the barbecue I made all the garden furniture, and the furniture inside the house.

What helped me make this stuff was my trusted and tested ACME hammer. Without it I don't think I would be the most powerful man in the world today.

13 months ago: Hi George.
I liked your story about your canvas suit in (MY NEW SHOES) sorry to hear about Stumpy. Did you fish him out of the river or did you leave him in the water? Hart to believe we have so much in common, because I also had an ACME hammer, you know George? I never bent a nail whilst using that hammer. It cost $1.50 in The Piggley Wiggley forty years ago and it looks like I could have bought that today.

We used to have barbecues but we used a dustbin lid to cook with. It was like a giant wok. And that used to smell of old tea leaves and rotting food when you threw it onto the fire. George even today, when I walk past a trash can, my mouth waters, I feel like diving in for some tasty little morsels.

When we fought the Civil War we had barbecues every single day. We never had a big green clay egg to cook in! We used to just throw our food on the fire or eat it raw. Why, if we have had the big green egg we would have lost the war. There was nothing tastier than finding an old bit of fat by the chow tent, and throwing it in the camp fire for a few minutes, then turn it over, cook for another two minutes and it's ready. All the ashes and embers that had stuck to the fat gave it extra taste. Can you imaging riding into battle with a great big green egg strapped to your back? No sir, you cannot.

One thing that does ring a bell is my old spurs, I had those spurs as a present when I first became president of the U.S of A. If my memory serves me well, they had ACME embossed into the metal. I went on many many battles and I always wore those spurs. When I died they were as good as new, maybe even better than new.

13 months ago: I know it's not the green egg, and it is the quality of the decline of the good work in our community. But I had to start somewhere and the green egg gave me a good base. The reason I have written these stupid posts is to try to over emphasize the lack of quality on this site and hopefully gain a bit of momentum and passion to bring RR back to what it was, the best site there is. I enjoy a good discussion and a good site gives me that, it makes me research a topic and learn things from a different perspective. And although there are many things I do not agree with I like the people who write for this site. Now I do the odd bit elsewhere but I don't get a buzz, I don't laugh out loud in my back room, where my family think I'm crazy. At one time I was going to leave the site and go elsewhere. But I thought bollocks, why give in so easily, help make it right. And the help of Abe and Obama we cannot fail.

My problem is that if there is something going on I will rush in to solve the problem. An other of my problems is that I am built like a **** house and I will not tolarate the so called gangs that walk the streets today. They are nothing but a bunch of cowards and run away when I take my jacket off. So compared to the scum around on the streets I am an old man. I might be an old man but they are still **** scared.

13 months ago: And there is a post note to this. If ever I got injured with this scum they would not wake up in the morning happy, as they walked out of their houses they would be hurt badly. I find with scum if you do not back down they **** themselves. And when you follow through with action, they grovell and cry it was not their fault. So whatever the reason, giving a good hiding is the only way to beat this ****. There was a film once with a guy saying that he would take no more, he was sick and tired, and he wanted to do something. Well my very good friends I do. I vet my grand children potential partners and if I don't like them, I ask them to walk with me in the garden, and say" You are not the sort of person I expect my grandaughter to be with. I then tell the piece of **** that if he dos'not **** off now I will kill him. Talking like that means I take responsibily for my grand dauters well being without involving her very liberal parents. I dont do it and make a fool of any one I do it because I've been there, ****ed these throw outs when I was sixteen, They need repect I have been there, they have got my respect. When I take my grand daugter out for a meal, because of who I am I get the utmost of respect. I expect that respect to any one in my family.

Many years ago I was quite small, I had a great time. But all of a sudden I put on some weight. it wasn't slob weight it was hard work in the Army and building myself to be the best I can be. I get a pension from the Army and I can live with that. What annoys me is the people that want to work but cannot because they are not nuclier scientists delivering magazines.

13 months ago: Very articulate Paper Tiger. I've known a lot of great people who had problems with alcohol, and other things, but gave so much of themselves to others. The people closest can't see it because of themselves. It takes time to over come and deal with hurt. Maybe no one really can resolve it, so we live with it. Doing good for others seems to abate other anxieties. Sunny

That is all I will say about that but it must give you some idea of the passion I have. I have just given my name to the world. But my very good friends I don't care. I am not scared and I never have been. When I go to bed at night I think of the RIA and what a bunch of cowards they are, They only picked on weaklings, Any peice of scum can do that.

My name was Harry Mcalvoy and my job was to work within the tight commonity of Belfast, my job was in a breakers yard crushing cars
I got invited to peoples christening, marriage, first holy community because I was so repected. But that was not what I had to do. I am not going to say anymore as I have the utmost repect for most of these people

They are **** scared, Because my dead dad is dead they think they are next. What do I have to tell them they are talking absolute ****. Man thrie cowdice and mistreatmeant is where we are today.
I am a clever man but I do not have to people asking ****ing stupid questions trying to wind me up and setting me back twenty years. Because I work out my family think they have no resposibiliy, I know what to do, but being curious what would you do?
Before you answer this question my son was / is a drug addict. So I went round every house that sold **** and told them I would kill them. So far it is working. But I am under no illusion that it will cure the problem, but when I say this will stop today nodody is under any false allusions as to what the outcome will be.

I spent three days in the pigsty I had no water or food. And when these spanish ****s came over to ask me question I attacked them with every once of strenth These wankers would only fight when you were on the floor. I new they were weak so every time they took me out for questioning I just hit who I though was the most important.

These pieces of cowardise and **** would not come into my cell on there own they had to have 20 pieces of **** with them. Those ****s even punched my wife in front of me so I attacted the gook and had my foot on his ****ink neck and I would happily, now I am getting angry , CRUSHED HIS HEAD WITH MY FOOT. We bought a car because they took mine and set it alight, and off we went. We went over 6 feet of snow over the pyramees and ended up in France. We booked a hotel for a week and

I went back to Spain. In a place called to Jijona, I owned a house there.

To cut along story short I slashed a few guys and stabbed a corrupt piece of ****. I was put on the midnight express and I was lucky I only servd 10 years but I Had to serve another 5 years in Wormwood Scrubs
13 months ago: Paper -- you gotta make these stories into a series of rants, and I will come back to R&R looking for them -- this is good ****. You should seriously consider writing a book, it could be short or long, who cares, but I bet it would be good. Don't waste anymore of your time commenting when you could be writing autobiographical posts about your life.

On a side note to Alex Layton, the boss, I would like to make a suggestion: make a new PROMINENT heading titled "AA," as I bet you'd create a niche on the internet millions strong, making the 99'er thing look lie a grain of sand. Every alcoholic with a keyboard would be ranting and raving on this site, commenting up a storm like crazy -- Alex, you'd be a rich man. There are already a bunch of headings already on the R&R home page -- some could be merged and cut -- and I bet there'd be some good posts at all times of the day...and even better comments.

Box, what do you think? I imagine it could really be a help for some folks suffering from alcoholism, and it might be good to start the first OP-ED style format where folks build a decent and honest community about a serious disease they manage. I've seen other posts where members make this admission while writing comments, and it's just so sad, it makes me want to help them, and this is the only way I can think of at R&R.

13 months ago: Fascinating background Paper. I agree with you that consequential posts about serious subjects would be much more interesting than the puff pieces we have been seeing.

I also agree with Pluto that your story and the stories of other troubled beings, baring their souls, would be interesting. But such brazenness takes more guts than most of us have.

Alex I would like to suggest that old posts remain in the archives no matter how many reads they accumulate, and that the site concentrate on current issues and that we try to reserve the favorites to things we want to rant or rave about that week.

13 months ago: I know Plutomeister doesn't like me at all, but I will still write inspite of him saying Ugh to me. Paper Tiger has a lot of living that he has done. He can turn that around to put it in a book to help others see what he is going through. He is honest. Much more than I've seen in anyone else's rantings. I think he could write a book on "Hell on Earth" on how he survived without anyone their to support him. I don't think any of you really understand what hardship is since you criticize so much. Again, you only listen to each other no one else counts so why should others be open for attack.
13 months ago: Sunny I have always liked you, what are you talking about? This internet avatar distance you can't see me -- I can't see you thing is so wrong! That's why I don't like facebook or any of those 'friend' style websites. You speak your truth, sometimes ramble on, what isn't there to like? Your not petty, and you never put people down, what do you do to be "unliked?" If you extrapolate from my opinions what I would think of you, then, the sky's the limit, if your extrapolations become interpretations.

Sunny you get a pass from me in a big way, I like you and I like what you think.

Everyone is making me upset by their lack of concern about the Country and the people. Not only for the 99ers but the people on a whole. Sunny
13 months ago: I have stopped posting because I don't want my works be held hostage in a black hole. I also have been turned off by the lack of standards at R&R, where anybody can post total junk, whether it is by fraud (spam, plagerism, black hat seo, etc.) or by ignorance -- the latter drags down the quality of the site under the excuse of "freedom of speech" where, for instance, ignorant, uneducated and stupid opinions are given a platform -- fine have your ****ing platform, I want editorial standards, before I ever post anything here again.

The problem is, editorial standards would shut out most of the posters here, and since they are the only ones left on this site, they'll democratically vote amongst themselves to keep it that way, and there you have it: R&R stands for Romper Room.

Although, there should be opportunity for more of a variety of different subjects to be shown;therefore, there can be more choice of quality. People who have something worthwhile to say should have their work printed. As you said the work shouldn't be held hostage. My father an x marine was a brain and knew how to use his intelligence and foresight. My daughter followed in his footsteps and amazes me each day how huge she can make her World. My point is that people who have experienced life fully have a lot they can write about and people learn from that. My father was offered book deals before he died. Never got the chance. I think that is my regret that he didn't do that.
