A few days ago I wrote a piece on food stamps over at www.RantRave.com titled Food Stamps at an all time high.*

One gentleman posted this comment:
"Please research on how many aliens are on the dole and get back to us. Include "Anchor Babies".
This is my response to that comment.

The term "Anchor Babies", is a term used by immigration reductionists in the United States to describe a child born in the U.S. to illegal aliens. It is generally used as a derogatory reference to the supposed role of the child, who as a U.S. citizen through the legal principle of jus soli, may facilitate immigration for relatives through family reunification. **

What I'm about to write here may make a few peoples hair stand up straight and you might even want to send me to hell. But the good thing about free speech, one may voice their opinion without the fear of retribution.

If a person is born in the USA, then in my eyes that person should be a US citizen and should be allowed any benefits as any other US citizen regardless of race, creed or religion.

One may argue that these people are taking away money and jobs from from the regular US citizen's.
But are they really? Are you going to get out there and paint that house or mow that yard for sub standard min wages? I think not! Also are you going to pay someone more than the rate then these people will work for? I don't think so.
This is one of the main reasons the US is in a economical down swing. We got lazy and didn't want to work for sub standard wages, we all had to keep up with the Jones' when most of us couldn't keep up with the Simpsons. So what happened? A lot of job's left the US, leaving us with slim pickings.

I live in Costa Rica, and I see the same thing here, as in the US, regarding " Anchor Babies", except it's the people from Nicas (Nicaragua people) Vs. the Ticos (Costa Rican People.)
I can't count the times I've heard Nica this and Nica that. In Nicaragua the avg wage for a trained and educated nurse is around $120.00 a month. So it makes a lot sense to come to Costa Rica and work as a maid for $200.00 or more a month as no Tico wants do the work for less then double this cost.
The part I find really funny is, The Ticos complain about the Nicas, like they are some higher being from another planet. But in the US they would be classified as Mexican and would be in the same boat as the Nicas.

My point to all of this, people are people and a border is just a line dawn up by someone. Sure you need to have controls on immigration, but to deny someone food and benefits because of race, creed, or religion is very wrong in my eyes.

I still wonder if slavery had not existed would I be on the plains of Africa with a spare chasing a gazelle?
More than likely not, as Africa may have developed into a world power house, and people would be sneaking into the border to find a better quality of life. If we treat life like open source software, the world would become a better place.
One never knows any given thing about life, the only given thing for sure is death.
