I Guess Obama Is Not A Liar After All

I now admit I was dead wrong. Obama did not lie when he said no healthcare for illegal aliens. The following is the first paragraph in the linked news article.

"President Obama said this week that his health care plan won't cover illegal immigrants, but argued that's all the more reason to legalize them and ensure they eventually do get coverage."

You liberals knew it all along, didn't you......or did you?

Come on Heynnnn, Chris, Siempre, etc.

Obama is a wordsmith, is he not?

For crying out loud....................

and since we will not fix the borders we will have another 12 million very shortly.

The Mexican border, the gift that keeps on giving.

29 months ago: Hi redstateguy. Before I dive into the meat of your post, I thought you might like to double-check your sources. The "Washington Times" is a vanity imprint owned and operated (at a loss: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Washington_Times#Funding) by Sun Myung Moon, the cult leader of the Unification Church. It's not a reliable source for much of anything.

Now then... This snippet from the Washington Times is woefully inaccurate. It makes the case that Obama conflated the two issues of health insurance and illegal immigration, without pointing out precisely where or in what speech. He did not. You'll find no such quote from Obama. You'll find him talk about each issue separately, and yes, he's for finding ways to increase legalization for illegals who want to pay their dues and become real members of society. But the two issues don't belong together in the way the Washington Times implies Obama believes.

Now what do I think? Well, it's pretty simple.

* I believe in universal health insurance, and I'm willing to compromise with a public option.
* I think that as long as our society and economy relies on large pools of unskilled migrant labor, we owe it to them and to ourselves to bring in enough *legally* that we no longer have a flood of illegal immigration.

Unless you are of Native American descent, your ancestors were immigrants, too. Why shouldn't we extend the same opportunity to people of all nations?

Do you agree with the statement "give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free," or do you favor "No Vacancy"?
29 months ago: Actually Noni...you are wrong. Obama did say what is quoted in the article.

Here is the link to video.

29 months ago: This is the same newspaper that seeded the death panels lies and played the Hitler card by implying that the incoming Obama administration was on the path to emulating the Aktion T4 program of Nazi Germany in which “children and adults with disabilities, and anyone anywhere in the Third Reich was subject to execution who was blind, deaf, senile, retarded, or had any significant neurological condition.”

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/nov/23/no-final-solution-but-a-way-forward/

I guess when religionists like Sun Myung Moon piously quote moral dictums such as "thou shalt not lie", there's a secret coda that says "except in the furtherance of the great religious cause."
29 months ago: Palin "seeded" teh death Panels, not the WT and the WT was hardly alone in it's comparisons or it's coverage.

And while we are talking about "playing the hitler card" what was Pelosi doing? a public service announcement?

29 months ago: Actually Harshaw...I am right. Nowhere in that speech does Obama come out for getting illegal immigrants legalized for the purposes of getting health care. He said the debate "underscores the necessity of passing comprehensive immigration reform and resolving the issue of 12 million undocumented people living and working in this country once and for all."

So this debate has opened the door to another highly necessary debate. That is not the same thing as "backdoor method of getting illegal immigrants free health care."

"Palin "seeded" teh death Panels, not the WT and the WT was hardly alone in it's comparisons or it's coverage."

Well, Palin certainly popularized them, I'll give you that. And you're right, the Moonies weren't alone in their coverage. There was WorldNetDaily, Free Republic, Fox News...
29 months ago: Oh...suddenly a politicians statements are literal? A back door is exactly what he is talking about.

RULE 8: "Keep the pressure on. Never let up." Keep trying new things to keep the opposition off balance. As the opposition masters one approach, hit them from the flank with something new. (Attack, attack, attack from all sides, never giving the reeling organization a chance to rest, regroup, recover and re-strategize.)
29 months ago: Oh...suddenly you're a mind reader? You know exactly which statements a politician makes that should be taken literally and which ones should be taken as super-secret messages?

Come on... You're going to interpret everything he says that way.

RULE 1: "You don't talk about fight club."
RULE 2: "You don't talk about fight club."

(OK, now I'm just teasing you for your rule quotes.)
29 months ago: Not a mind reader....just smart enough to know that if ANY politician is speaking it is verly likely that he is speaking out of both sides of his mouth.

Are yoy breaking the first 2 rules? If you are you know I'm going to have to take your....(the rest might get me censored....lol)

As for the media coverage. By all means the lines have been drawn. Buchanan actually wrote a pretty good article about the split about a week ago. Google "is america coming apart?"

Don't you know America does not want any more immigrants. Legal or otherwise, especially colored ones.

We've built through genocide and enslavement the best country on the planet. We are wealthy, we have a great government that allows us to have site like "Rant Rave."

This is heaven on earth and at this stage we don't want any immigrants (legal or otherwise) coming here to mess things up or influence things in directions we indigenous Americans don't like.

White picket fence, well manicured lawn and oh yes....my lemonade. Ahhhh...

RSG - nice

You libs do not understand.
We are a nation of LAWS. You can't be a nation of laws some of the time. Everyone of us are immigrants, but legal immigrants.
It is disingenuous and will destroy our nation to let certain aspects of society to be above or not follow the law.

PERIOD.

29 months ago: The following article more accurately describes Obama's deception.

29 months ago: Harshaw,
Pat Buchanan writing on the lack of unity - that's rich, and we're suppose to get dewy-eyed eyed over his waxing nostalgic for the Leave it Beaver White Christian Republic that never was? Buchanan is about a half-step away from David Duke.

29 months ago: Opps. I'm a troll because I exposed Buchanan for what he is? On race relations in the late 1940s and early 1950s, Buchanan writes, "There were no politics to polarize us then, to magnify every slight. The 'negroes' of Washington had their public schools, restaurants, bars, movie houses, playgrounds and churches; and we had ours." (Right from the Beginning, Buchanan's autobiography, p. 131)"

Stating the inconvenient facts that you disagree with is doesn't make one a troll, and your false accusation is mere sophistry.

29 months ago: Guys he did not lie because coverage for illegals is not in the bill. However, it is also not in the bill that they won't be covered, and most importantly if this bill gets passed, it will be brought to the Supreme Court (only an idiot would think otherwise) by a team of ACLU type lawyers. The Supreme Court already has numerous precedents that state if you plan to give to "everybody", "everybody" includes illegal aliens.
29 months ago: I have to agree that Obama's use of language is quite good. I am pleased that he frequently speaks inspirationally. His administration, instead of being half cloaked in secrecy, puts these positions forward that actually make sense. Yeah, we have some illegal immigrants but there is at least some hope of dealing with the problem, instead of building vast walls to isolate ourselves.
