So I got fired yesterday. It was a part-time job, one of three that I hold, so you might not think it's such a big deal. Twelve bucks an hour, 25 hours a week; enough money to make sure my utilities are paid off and the rent doesn't bounce. Easy to replace? Afraid not. It's minimum wage all over the place and not much else. While wallowing in self-pity in front of my TV, I learned from John Stewart last night- well I actually learn from John Stewart most nights- that Mitt Romney, through his very limited and hardly worth mentioning speaking engagements, earns more than $370,000 per year. Let's think about this for a moment: Mitt's little part-time side gig earns him more than $1,000 a day, even on days when he's at temple or playing golf or massaging more "corporations that are people too".
So I've got a proposal for Mitt; something that will really put him arm and arm with his middle class, make him feel like he's one of 90%. Give me one of your speaking engagements! Just one and I could probably pay my rent for the next 10 years! Finally take my kid to dentist! Make a capital gains investment and pay 15% tax over it! I have some interesting things to talk about. In fact, Mitt can only talk about what it feels like to worry about getting fired, I can go further than that. By the time I'm done, Mitt can say he actually knows someone who got fired. And wow, then I'll really know the guy is in touch with the real world and knows exactly what it's like to be me and the majority of Americans out there.
