Health care today

Three scary facts from official reports:

1. One in every six dollars in the U.S. economy is spent on health care today (http://www.cms.hhs.gov/NationalHealthExpendData/downloads/tables.pdf).
2. If nothing changes in 30 years, one out of every three dollars in the economy will be tied up in the health care system (http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/102xx/doc10297/06-25-LTBO.pdf).
3. Individual and family spending on premiums and out-of-pocket health care costs could increase 79 percent in just 10 years (http://www.rwjf.org/files/research/57449.pdf). (see also Nancy-Ann DeParle (Director, White House Office of Health Reform, Mar 15, 2010).

23 months ago: I heard Obama giving his final push on Health Care in Ohio this morning. He did a good job of explaining all of the things the health care bill would do to correct the problems. See: http://www.cbsnews.com/2718-250_162-209....

As soon as the bill is passed Medicare would be made solvent for an additional 10 years, none of the medicare programs would be weakened, and the donut hole would be eliminated making drugs cheaper.

Insurance companies would no longer be able to drop people when they got sick. I feel sorry for the poor woman who was supposed to introduce him that had a history of cancer and had been paying a whole bunch for insurance, but had to drop it when the insurance company said they were raising rates another 40%, and then she got cancer right after she dropped it. Her sister had to do the intro.

The plan would make it illegal to drop kids, All plans would have to allow preventative care like checkupd, and 31 million uninsured would finally be able to get insurance. And the entire program would actually reduce the deficit!

He talked about how the plan would incorporate many of the ideas the Republicans had proposed for saving money.

Too bad the republicans are in the pockets of the Insurance Companies and unwilling to work for the people of the country.

You are living a lie.

That poor woman you're so worried about would BE FAR BETTER OFF under the plan the repubes have pushed.

But no, that won't fit into your little fabricated world.

Anyway, what difference does that make?

Wake up Al.

That is because the first four years of our payments are going into the system, with nothing coming back out. So ten years of health care taxes pays for six years of actual health coverage. What happens the second ten years, when ten years of payments has to pay for ten years of coverage?

I have 1/2 a mind to tell you D.C pencil pushers to mind your own business. You're not a part of America anyway.

23 months ago: Red The only alternatives are the Sstatus Quo or the plan that Obama is pushing. The Republicans didn't have the balls to put forth any plan that they were willing to vote for. All they had was a sheaf of papers with some ideas that didn't make economic sense and which would only pick up 3 million of the 45 million unemployed.
It is easy to criticize and throw out pie in the sky ideas, but if the Republicans had done their job and worked for a bill that would work for all of the American people and actually be willing to vote for it we might have better alternatives, but as it is we have the status quo which leaves 45,000 dead each year like that poor woman and the rest of us with continuously increasing costs as DrDivago pointed out, or the bill that will be soon be passed.

Any bill will be better than doing nothing.

That is a ####### lie!

It's not about healthcare to Obama. That has nothing to do with it. Al. Come on. Splash some water in your face man!

45,000 dead a year? That is a ####### lie Al!

IT'S A LIE AL.

IT'S A LIE AL.

Wake up Man.

23 months ago: It isn't me Red it is a Harvard Study: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/09/1...

We started two wars and lost nearly 6,000 troops to avenge 3,000 from 9/11 and yet the republicans are willing to just ignore the deaths of 45,000 red blooded Americans just because they are too poor.
23 months ago: Al.

That is absurd. You reckon unless we hadn't kicked the #### out of the scumbag muslim terrorists they'd have decided to crawl back into their #### holes and voluntarily leave us alone after 9/11.

Holy cow man! You're really starting to scare me.
23 months ago: Oh my goodness!

Had I known it was CBS news and some DOCTOR saying 45,000 people were dying every year just because they were poor, I could only believe as the Gospel.

For crying out loud Al. It is a fabrication, a lie. It is not true Al. They made it up. Period.

Wow. It's like Alice In Wonderland.

22 months ago: OK Red now you are scaring me. Harvard does a study and then just because a network you have a grudge with, reports on that study, you think the study is made up?

So in your warped universe, Anything that Fox News doesn't report on, is just plain old false or made up? You make this assessment without even clicking on the link in the article and looking at the actual study?

I don't understand what you are saying about the terrorists either. If we care enough about American lives to go to war, why don't we care about the uninsured? Conservatives don't seem to give a crap because they are poor just like they didn't seem to give a crap about the Iraqis killed in "Collateral Damage" which is why we didn't even bother counting. Do they only empathize with people that are just like them, white christian conservatives?

You know when I watch Jay Leno and his Jay Walking I can't believe those people can actually be as stupid and uninformed as they pretend to be.

I like you and can't really believe that you are as dumb and as ignorant as you pretend to be.

22 months ago: OOTB the bill will insure 31 million additional people in 2014. That will be 95% of the people in the country. Most of the 5% it won't cover are illegals.
22 months ago: People are so ignorant and RACIST for all you "redstate people"! If it was bush that passed the bill or mcain everyone would be all for it! Close minded people! Just wait till you have a cancer or illness, then we can call you a poor little man. To be honest news is news... what you see is what you get, its what your told. No one is at a white house in a conference room on the inside, or any place for that matter. You dont know what goes on behind closed doors. People will say and tell you what you want to hear!

22 months ago: No, if Bush had passed this bill, there would have been riots in the streets.

RACIST? And where do you get this little gem, WORLDPROCON? Please elaborate how opposing a healthcare bill makes one a racist.
