Has Obama Lost Control of Congress?

A huge question that is weighing heavy for Barack Obama and his administration is whether the President should ask Congress to come back from its summer August vacation. In doing so the President would be asking Congress to deal with the current economy of debt and jobs. However, if Obama does call back Congress will the White House look like it is in panic mode? Will they look like idiots reacting too quickly just like John McCain did in 2008 when the Lehman crash happened and he left the campaign trail to go back to Congress? I think Obama will do what he has in the past and wait to see what happens.

That's unfortunate for this Administration, Barack Obama needs to have his White House look like they are in charge of this economy and are leading the charge on fixing the debt crisis. World markets that are reacting to not only the debt crisis in Europe need the strong will of the White House to show that there is strength in the political situation in Washington.

However, the Obama White House is known as an Administration that is more reactive than proactive. It has its own timetable and doesn't necessarily listen to those around them. This might prove to be the right way to navigate through this tough time; however, choosing caution over showing strength by calling Congress back might be a bad political gamble. Many are going to look at this as a time when the market dropped 600 points in one day and the White House appeared to not have an answer.

No, but only because the Presidency isn't supposed to control congress, they are supposed to check and balance each other.

Representatives in Congress shouldn't get Summer Vacation...I have a full time job, I don't get summer break...they aren't in school anymore they should start acting like adults and showing up to work...especially considering how much they get paid.
9 months ago: ... only the current Congress falls into those guidelines? Face the facts.

Who signed the bill into law? Regardless of the House or Senate party makeup.

Who had the final say? Who put their name on the bottom line? Who gave it a AAAA++++ (Buffett) rating? Who "owns" the economy?

Who?
9 months ago: Has Obama lost control of Wall Street? That would be a better question.

Go figure...520 points down today...

Yeah. What we need is more of the same. Let's call all of them back to increase our chances of more misery. That includes Obama and his 10 day vacation in the "Rich and Famous" land. How much you think that excursion cost HIM? UH? ZERO? I wonder if Grandma Michelle is a tagalong for the needed vacation?

Yeah. We need them to make some more sound decisions for us little people.
Who knows. Maybe they will tell us how to vote in the next election. They already do that well in their respective positions.

The rest of the bums should go home and listen to how angry their constituents are that the country is going down the tubes while they are on vacation. They should listen to Wall Street which is taking a beating, and they should do some research on the best solutions, and yes even listen to the polls which indicates that 2/3rds of the people want both sides to cooperate and first of all provide jobs, come up with a balanced plan to cut programs that are wasteful, especially the military which is the biggest and most wasteful, and tax the rich and use that revenue to provide jobs and economic growth, which will trim the deficit more than the budget cuts will.
9 months ago: Right. You now want a "Super 16 or 20" that you can pack with your view to supplement the DNC socialist plan? That is now that you see who the 6 Republicans that are appointed to the committee are??? Who again are the appointed Demogogs? Kerry, Murray and Baucus...

Pelosi has yet to announce who bought their appointments.
9 months ago: I'm hoping that good old NAN will show some compassion and appoint the likes of Jackson, Jackson-Lee, Waters or Rangle.

Would that not be spitting in the eye of the Tea Party?

9 months ago: $80 billion dollars. That's all it would have taken in the first place.

I read this in an email, intended as a joke, but it makes good sense.

There are approximately 40,000,000 people working in the US that are age 50 or older. The suggestion was that the government give each of these people $2,000,000 with the following stipulations:

1) They HAVE to retire upon taking the money. Therefore 40,000,000 jobs suddenly open up. UNEMPLOYMENT CRISIS SOLVED!!!

2) They have to buy an American made car....40,000,000 new cars suddenly ordered. AUTO INDUSTRY CRISIS SOLVED!!!

3) They either pay off their home mortgage or buy a new home. HOUSING AND FINANCIAL CRISIS SOLVED!!!!

All for $80 billion, instead of the trillions we are currently throwing at the problem. To be so simple, it really sounds like a good plan. Add the additional influx of money that would stay in communities for an extended period of time, and you have a reprieve that would last ten years at least to work out a more permanent solution.

Whatcha think?
9 months ago: So, I get a check for 2 million and only have to pay off my house and buy a new car? I get to keep the rest? Do I get "Fast Tracked" into Social Security and Medicade?

Problem is that these new "Young Turks" think they know what work is. It would take 120,000,000 of them to perform those jobs that were opened up by the 40,000,000 retirees. Hell, we can't even get them out of the Air Conditioned video arcades or Tatoo shops. Much less into the fields that would require a few drops of sweat.

You want to see the Markets Crash for real? Lets put the juniors in charge and see how much work gets done. Oh, sorry that is currently being performed.

9 months ago: No, no fast track into Social Security or Medicare. I would think continuing to pay into the system at the rate you were at before retirement would keep SS from taking too big a hit.

There are plenty of mature late twenties and thirties and forties people out of work due to the layoffs. I'd take a patriotic early retirement tomorrow, or at least as soon as the check clears.
9 months ago: So, I get a forced retirement and no benefits? I think I'll pass on the 2 million dollars. Let those numb skulls find a job pulling weeds or digging ditches.

Sound familiar?

9 months ago: OOTB I like your plan and look forward to the Republican House passing such a bill. I would certainly have been willing to quite my job for $ 2 million, and I have never been able to afford a new car, so that would be great. Unfortunately the Republicans only give millions to the super rich who don't need the money.

Unfortunately The author of this email and all of the gullible who promote the idea are math challenged. The cost of such an enterprise would be 80 Trillion not Billion. That is the problem with an entire party of people that are faith based instead of fact based, is that huge mistakes are made and they make all problems worse.

9 months ago: And I'm sure you would be ok with paying a 90% tax on your windfall. Just like the ultra rich Democrats who have voted to increase their own taxes. That's the problem with an entire party which considers generosity and duty only in terms of other people's money.
