Apparently, Google News has been chastised recently for an abundance of low quality material, and a whole lot of a canned shoulder pork ham product appearing high up in Google News. So, while not telling exactly how many, Google has admitted to dropping, quite a few websites that they considered not living up to the terms of use policies. Google news would not comment on specific publishers, but did say,
"We have certain guidelines in place regarding the quality of sites included in the Google News index. We do this to ensure that we offer a high-quality experience for Google News users. Our support team periodically reviews news sources, particularly following user complaints, and takes action when appropriate."

It seems that Red Label News, an organization owned by another outfit , 70 Holdings, along with a lot of others, have been gaming Google News for page impressions and ad clicks. They do this by tangentially referencing hot topics on many sites simultaneously, and using irrelevant keywords.

Our Super bowl spammer generated tens of thousands of page impressions in a matter of hours, many of the Super Bowl sites he listed talked about how well the two teams did in the World Cup, in boxing, and in Liverpool. Quite a few of them were picked up by Google News almost immediately.

It may be a while before Google News gets this all sorted out.

15 months ago: Regardless of fault, it doesn't look good and I wonder how many will stay on and write for free (like they do at HuffPo). Personally, I never saw Rant Rave as a money making deal; I just enjoyed the clash of diverse opinions which you don't ordinarily get on other site because most sites typically cater to one side or the other. Hope the Rant Rave ride continues.

I thought it was my fault for making the Google-Facebook-Monsanto connection...

15 months ago: So when an AP news wire is picked up by 100 news organizations and reposted is it not spam? No? Find a single AP story and google the words. I bet you find plenty of high paying plagerized sites....

No? Let's test it...

A hidden story on the AP...

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/arti...

let's search some words in the AP story and see what turns up...

Here is the first section of words in the AP story...

A taxi cab driver plowed slowly into a crowd on a sidewalk in San Diego's busy Gaslamp District early Saturday, injuring more than two dozen people, police said.

Google search those words and see if there are any other news sites that have used the AP Story.

Here is the Google link to the search...

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sourc...=

So cut and paste hack jobs by news sites are subject to Google discretion. It all depends on who you are........Kinda like the banks and wall street when they needed a bailout....

Yep! You got it!

But I think that the thing Google was objecting would be a story with the keywords Taxi, crowd, San Diego and then having a story about free internet TV. I think.

Check these out and let me know what you get of it. I definitely ain't a interweb guru.

Matt Cutts, the spam guy for Google, has commented about the problem with plagiarism and that usually they (Google) get it right, but for your own sake, don't cross post the same thing on multiple sites.

The other thing is that if you DO FIND a site that is plagiarizing you then report it. If you find a site or a post that is keyword spamming (repetition of keywords), doorway pages, deceptive practices, the article not matching up w/the search results, and a few more things then you need to turn in a Google spam report.

Anyone can do the spam report.

-I would hope that they wouldn't remove the Adsense rev share completely. It is really too bad that the site was left unfiltered, knowing full well that Google's News requirements are strict, not to mention Google Adsense rules on top of it. I've read them many times. There is a lot of crap that should NEVER have gone through GN, in my opinion, but it did and the Super Bowl BS was the final straw.

I don't understand why RR didn't protect its #1 asset better. It sucks. A few people ruin things for others.

Yes! Exactly. Some RR members do this, too, yet RR allows it. Posts using keywords to draw views w/o offering anything in the content are part of the problem. That is part of what negatively affected RR. It's still happening though so I don't see RR getting re-approved for Google News w/o changing some posting requirements.

The search query "get paid to post" is the #10 top word that drives traffic here according to Alexa.com. Five words are unemployment related.

http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/rantrave.c...#

Alex Layton's post after Google suspended RR from G News claimed RR put too much emphasis on the "get paid" part of the site. Yet they changed nothing but the rev share. No updates to their terms, etc. No one can find aligned info here.

Intentional or not, RR unfairly shifted the blame onto members using Adsense. Some members now think any Adsense user is corrupt, gaming, plagiarizing, and using deceptive techniques. This attitude has been fostered by some members, too.

I equate this to accusing a co-worker of stealing. Because RR is an artificial environment, people say things w/o care of the repercussions. Some good contributing members have been driven away. This is not at all good for RR.

People who use Adsense are not the enemy of this site. Stand up writers who follow Adsense terms are what RR wanted. They're who any site wants.

People who game Adsense are the "enemy" of all internet users.

The push-pull makes me skeptical of posting here. It doesn't leave me with a good feeling.

I don't know what direction RR is heading.
