Global Weirding!

Now as a record heat wave moves across much of the country, the south is covered in smoke from record forest fires. The record snow pack from this winter is now melting in the record heat, which translates into record flooding. WE ain't seen nothing yet. The poor troops in Iraq are suffering through 138 degree heat! It isn't even summer yet! http://theextinctionprotocol.wordpress.c...

We have already seen record tornadoes this year and the Hurricane season is just starting. http://www.edf.org/page.cfm?tagid=1405

I wonder at which point all of the Global Warming deniers are going to wake up and say to themselves, Hm I don't ever remember seeing or hearing about that before?

Our politics is dominated by the Tea Partiers who almost universally deny that the changes in climate are human caused.

The scientists who have reached a consensus that the climate change is human caused have changed their tones. Usually conservative and cautious, the climatologists in the past would tell you that no single weather event is evidence of global warming.

Now they will tell you that the accumulation of unusual weather events, multiple 500 year floods, record droughts, record heat, record snowfall, are all part of a pattern. Now when you ask them about the unusual weather they will say, we warned you this would happen. http://www.minnpost.com/donshelby/2011/0...

So what are our choices? If we act on what 95% of the climate scientists tell us is happening, we will end up with less pollution more wildlife and a better environment. Even if we are wrong about the climate science, this is a good thing.

If we do nothing, even if there is a 1% chance of it happening, then the results will be catastrophic.

11 months ago: Let's see if I can make some sense of this.
1) The Tea Party represents the core of Republican values.
2) The Tea Party is heavily funded and backed by multibillionaire corporate head honchos.
3) The Tea Part espouses very limited government and complete corporate autonomy.
4) The Tea Party is preparing for a post apocalyptic scenario.
5) The Tea Party wants the collapse of the world economies.
6) The Tea Party wants a two class system of the ultra rich and the ultra poor.
7) The Tea party would thrive in a post apocalyptic America where there is limited government millions dead and the vast majority of Americans would be willing to work like slaves for the little resources that would then be all under rich corporate Tea Party control.
This scenario is almost verbatim the prophetic ramblings of the Evangelical movement, the Tea Party's Religious arm.
11 months ago: You forgot 2 things Siempre.

The Tea Party are racists and you have a large chip on your shoulder.
11 months ago: You are so cute I could plant a big kiss on you!

11 months ago: I think you nailed it Dwayne. The only thing missing is that they are also enamored with gas hungry 4 wheel drive Pick Ups and muscle cars, and guns. That makes the post apocalyptic world look like Mad Max with all the bad guys driving around in heavily armed supercharged gas gulpers fighting for the last few drops of oil, while the few remaining environmentalists try to set up paradise.

Where is the Amishking when you need him?

It is not what these guys preach that is being noticed...
11 months ago: Paradise?!?

You want it to happen huh?

11 months ago: I would be LMAO right now if we weren't talking about real people who actually wish this on our world!

11 months ago: It is sad that Mitt Romney has been attacked for being reasonable about climate change. http://hotair.com/archives/2011/06/03/ro...

Now Climate Change has become a purity test for discriminating between the Real Republicans and the Rinos. Rush, Hannity and the rest of the hate mongers have already written Mitt off because he lives in the real world.

The Real Republicans can not rely on factual information or on scientific evidence. They can only rely on the the fantasy looking glass world of faith based reasoning, where evolution is a myth, where throwing money at the rich raises revenue and creates jobs, and trickles down to the rest of us.

Sort of wonder how these ideologues would govern. Maybe they can make the National Debt go away just by wishing it, and the troops in Afghanistan can just click their heels and say There is no place like home.

Your response TB is typical of people that are satisfied with the status quo. African slaves afraid of fighting back would ask the slaves instigating insurrections, "Why are you trying to ruin a good thing? The masa is good to us! What would we do without him?" and with that they would sell out their own country men for a pat on the back or more straw for their cot and sometimes for even less than that.

The fact TB is that big corporate oil, especially, not only has us addicted but confined! Pour whole infrastructure is built upon the selling and buying of cheap oil. However it does not mean that this system is good or that it works or that it is sustainable or even that it will last.
11 months ago: Al,

You want to "act" on this global warming.... all you leftists can do is raise taxes in your effort to "act"... like anything that you perceive as harmful you guys think taxation is the cure! Smoking is harmful (tax) drinking is harmful (tax) getting to work in a truck is harmful (tax).... and then borrow trillions and give it all to the worst offenders... banks in the pocket of the FED.

11 months ago: You are correct TB that using taxes to discourage harmful behavior and then using that revenue to offset the damage done (as in the "sin taxes" of Tobacco and alcohol) are the most effective way to bring about change.

This serves the triple purpose of discouraging harmful behavior, providing revenue, and making alternatives economically viable.

The taxation of carbon would raise the prices of fossil fuels, more closely reflecting the true environmental costs. This will make alternatives more economical. Part of the revenue could be used to offset the higher cost to consumers and part could be used for research and development of alternative energy and to encourage cleaner renewable safer energy.

Unfortunately with all of the Republicans making it impossible to raise taxes it will take much longer to join the 21st century. Still there are economic incentives to invest in clean, safe, renewable energy and the costs keep going down each year while the prices of fossil fuels increases each year.

It is just a matter of time, but with Japan, Germany, and China investing heavily in alternative energy, if we don't enact a reasonable energy policy soon, we will be left in the dust and they will get all the green jobs.

11 months ago: I found this report on Huffpost.AOLNEWS: Travis Donovan Reporter "Warns Of Mass Extinction From Current Rate Of Marine Distress State Of The Ocean" 'Shocking' Report Warns Of Mass Extinction From Current Rate Of Marine Distress
If the current actions contributing to a multifaceted degradation of the world's oceans aren't curbed, a mass extinction unlike anything human history has ever seen is coming, an expert panel of scientists warns in an alarming new report.
The preliminary report from the International Programme on the State of the Ocean (IPSO) is the result of the first-ever interdisciplinary international workshop examining the combined impact of all of the stressors currently affecting the oceans, including pollution, warming, acidification, overfishing and hypoxia. "The findings are shocking," Dr. Alex
(This goes on to read some pretty disturbing factors that exists.)
