In the wake of West Michigan’s toughest years of economic turmoil and losses upon losses of jobs General Dynamics and their Norton Shores facility tells 100 employees, “Take a transfer to the other side of the state or you get nothing.”
Bravo General Dynamics as if it is not bad enough there are some employees who will just flat out lose their jobs as they do not qualify for any transfer contractually according to news reports. And still you tell these people who are probably not topping more than sixty-thousand a year to just pick up and move as if that is just that simple in Michigan’s tough economy.
They will have to pack up, move their stuff, find a new place to rent or buy all the while struggling to unload a house on this side assuming they do own one. As many of the positions are engineers I would think, it is safe to assume many of them do. Moreover, those making six figure salaries are asking them to choose in less than ten days.
That’s right they have an entire seven days to decide and provide a response to their employer, General Dynamics as to their decision one way or another. And this is no easy choice as they are living in a lower range of costs whereas they are being asked to move over to the Shelby Township/Detroit area where costs are a lot higher.
Some of these individuals are even like me, divorced and having to consider their kids and parenting time with them versus being unemployed with little or no chance of finding another job in the same area anyway.
Bravo General Dynamics thanks for screwing over those devoted to you for so long with such a screwed up choice I certainly hope your consolidation savings bonuses at the end of this year are worth it.
