Forced sterilization?

Local news in Los Angeles is full of a story about a 7-year-old boy, found dead, alone and beaten. He was in the custody of his step-father, who admitted he beat the child and then disappeared. The boy's mother has 5 other children, all previously put into "protective custody." Why can't we mandate sterilization for irresponsible people who continue to have children when they're incapable of caring for them? This little boy breaks my heart.

Personally, I would cut their tubes and snipe their ducts myself. I cannot stand people who think they deserve a check just because they have one, two, five, ten babies at home and can’t figure out how to get a job and feed them and care for them at the same time. These people need to learn that nothing in this life is free, someone had to sweat and pay taxes so that the welfare system could exists and I really don’t think that they get that concept.

Kind of like that stupid woman that had a litter of babies not so long ago due to artificial insemination or some other procedure to get pregnant. SHE ALREADY HAD MORE KIDS THAN SHE COULD CARE FOR!!!!! She was drawing food stamps and swore up and down that she wasn’t on public assistance. WHAT THE HECK ARE FOOD STAMPS???? If they aren’t a form of public assistance I’d like to know what they are! She might have been on welfare too, don’t know and to keep my blood pressure down, I’m not going to research it either.

As for anyone who would beat a child so badly that it kills them or injures them permanently, I'll push the plunger, throw the switch or trip the trap door on them anytime I'm asked.

Even though I'm a passionate civil libertarian, I'd like to see something enacted which enables castration for pedophiles and sterilization for child abusers.

The self-styled "octomom" lives not far from me. You'll be glad to know public opinion is very much against her and her plans for starring in a "reality" show will probably never happen. A group of former child actors has filed a lawsuit against her for exploiting the children and they've hired Gloria Alred to make sure they win. Sometimes things really DO work out as they should.

as in the case of the octomom, I feel that if there is sufficient proof someone acted as she did in an attempt to defraud the "system", her children should be placed with foster parents, and the mom gets nothing, no further assisstance of any kind.
34 months ago: If it were up to me, which I guess thankfully it is not, I would also castrate child molesters and maybe the sterilization thing as well. I do however see that this would lead to problems. I suspect it is along the lines of assisted suicide. Once the law states it is one "right" to commit suicide where does the line stop. Would it eventually become legal for an eighteen year old girl to walk into a suicide clinic and end it all because it is her right and she broke up with her boyfriend and no longer wants to live.
I think in this case when we begin making physical modifications to a person for legal applications the question is where is where is the line when it comes to making those modifications. As with the Nazi regime it began with sterilization of the mentally challenged but progressed as time passed.
It is an interesting topic and I wonder that with current technology could there be a form of castration for child molesters which is not irreversible i.e a chemical "castration" or something of that nature, though it would not be castration in the physical sense. In this way there are really no permanent physical alterations taking effect yet the results are still the same.

We agree. I would suggest alternative sentencing. Give the mother, or whomever, 1,000,000 years in prison or sterilization, whichever she picks.

That gets around the argument of taking away rights.
34 months ago: Where would you people draw the line?

I for one have a line drawn already. However, the question is where does that line begin and stop? Don't take me wrong I'm leaning for a "Treatment" that will help. When we start identifying specific groups we have all crossed that line. The criteria should be fact based and uniform.
You did this...you get this... Period.

The constitunalist in me however, does not.
