Firefighter Shoots Dogs Out of Cheapness

A firefighter, David Santuomo, shot his 2 dogs instead of boarding them at a kennel. Santuomo was going on a cruise, and didn't want to pay the boarding costs for his dogs, so he took them to his basement. Next think you know, the firefighter has his dogs hung by a pipe, and shot 11 rounds at them, killing them. The dogs were then wrapped in plastic and dumped into trash bins behind the fire station he worked at. Now, David Santuomo is facing jail time for being cheap and cruelty to animals. He better go to jail for killing 2 innocent dogs. He floated off onto his cruise with no care that he had just killed 2 of his companions.
Should he go to jail? http://www.sodahead.com/question/481797/firefighter-kills-dogs-instead-of-boarding

34 months ago: A 90-day sentence for the murder of two animals with an illegal weapon outlines the need for legislative change in the state of Ohio.

We don't know what the right legislation would be. We don't think anyone does, nor does anyone have a quick fix or a clear long term plan to bring the safety and well-being of house pets up to date. But it is time to begin seriously discussing it.

That a man can chain two helpless animals in his basement, kill them viciously, and be punished for 90 days - primarily on a weapons charge - is unacceptable at best.

Firefighters are regarded as brave, selfless individuals who, like it or not, provide a role model to others, in particular to children. It should not even be a question whether or not he can continue in this line of work, and his punishment should fit the crime-at this point it does not even come close. Anyone who can commit such a crime against an innocent and defenseless animal is a threat to all of society...plain and simple.
