Will we go down with the ship?

For at least ten years now Conservatives have stood by and watched the
Liberals point to socialist Europe with glee and exclaim how the U.S should
look and learn. Oh how wonderful it is they say, the French get thirty paid
vacation days a year and Greeks have a thirty five hour work week. The
governments take from those rich b@stards who have more money than they
need or deserve and give it to the working or often non-working class who
for some reason do deserve it. How wonderful they said, "we should be like
Europe".

Put into a fashion context it would be like the liberals pointing to
adolescent Europe, dressed in neon green Crocs, a fishnet T-shirt with over
baggy pants that hang down halfway across the butt, exposing prison issued
boxer shorts. "That's so cool" the liberals exclaim with moronic
exuberance!! We should dress like that!! The conservatives meanwhile,
dressed in jeans and a plain white T-shirt just shake our heads in
disbelief that anyone would have a desire to jump onto such a ridiculous
band wagon.

Now once again the socialist dream of taking from those who do and have to
give to those who don't have or do very much to get, is dying in Europe. I
for one would love nothing more than to see socialism die (once again) this
time without taking the millions of victims with it that it has in the
past. But the joy of seeing the stupidity of socialism and its completely
irrational ideas sinking in Europe is dampened by several unfortunate
facts. The first being that socialism always attaches itself with a death
grip to it's host like the leach that it is. Greeks have been completely
indoctrinated it seems and as long as anyone in Europe has money, which
Greeks feel should be laid on the alter of socialism, they will not go
without their government handouts. Greeks, I believe will burn down their
own country before doing without while Germany or any other European
country has anything. Of course that is the nature of socialism. Why
shouldn't other countries give their wealth to Greece who is poorer and
simply wants the great European dream like everyone else. It matters little
whether Greece can actually afford to live such a high standard or not.
Socialism is after all about spending someone else's money. Which is
exactly what I believe Greece has in mind. Then there is Spain, Portugal,
Italy etc. who will certainly not feel it is right for them suffer while
Greece is locked onto the European Unions breast, all comfy and warm. I
don't see any of these countries doing what it will take to get themselves
out of this. So a violent crash may be inevitable.

Then there is the sobering fact that the U.S is also neck deep in dept and bailouts of our own which have not worked very well either. We to have been bailing out our
own socialist disasters (California and New York for starters). Now before you shake your heads no, all you liberals, check the last stimulus packages, California and New York among other socialist program heavy states graciously received billions of dollars from the Obama administration to prop up their failing economies. So there is always the chance that we could go down with the ship as well. It is ironic as well as a bit moronic in my opinion that around the same time that Europe is sinking under its own socialist weight the U.S has voted in our own socialist architects to build us a boat just like the Europeans have.

So here we are it seems, not so far from the events in Europe. We are sinking in the billions and billions of dollars of bailouts like the ones we are still handing to Fannie May and Freddie Mac. The Barney Franks band is playing the old and moldy err I mean golden oldie "there's nothing wrong with Fannie May and Freddie Mac". Obama and company have ordered the life boats to be let loose empty to insure all those who may need them, be they actual documented ship passengers or not, will have a fair chance. So get your government issued green Crocs and baggy pants on folks, it looks like we may have to swim for it.

24 months ago: well perhaps the overall agenda of the government is to sink the boats of currency. They will never be able to pay off the debts, the more money they bailout the more they devalue their own.

you know if my dog won't eat its new food, I just let it go hungry for the day or two. soon enough it will eat.

when economies are being crashed, do you think the government is just going to come out and say hey, this is what we plan to do. the people would be in an uproar. so they use other means so that the people blame someone , or something. they do it slowly so the people adjust slowly.

it is going to be a different world, that is for sure. it will change
24 months ago: I agree OOTB and well put Chrissy. I don't wish to see the wheels fall off any more than the next guy. However there seems to be a lot of people who will demand that government keep handing out treats as long as the wheels are still on, even though it is quite obvious they can come off at any time. I for one would like to see an over all responsibility on the part of citizens as well as government. But it seems we are destine to only change our ways after the wheels come off. Or as in your example Chrissy, the dogs must go hungry first.

The liberals refuse to cut government programs (and the people riot if they do), and the Conservatives refuse to pay for anything so they just borrow the money.

There are plenty of "Socialist" countries that have very generous social services that are not in trouble economically, because they are fiscally responsible and realize that they can't get something for nothing. Yes they have high taxes, but they get much more for their money than we do in our country. They are happy (The happiest people in the world) paying high taxes because they realize it is fair and just. http://www.tax.com/taxcom/taxblog.nsf/Pe...

Our fiscal problems would be easily solved if the rich would pay their just share. Historically the top tax rates averaged 70% and were 90% during times of war (like now). Instead the rich pay only 16.6% and income inequality is higher in this country than any other developed country.http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/2010/04/top-400-taxpayers/

Because the rich don't pay their fair share, the middle class pays much more in Total (Federal, state, local and fees). Still we only pay 28 cents out of every dollar in taxes which ties Japan for the lowest taxes per GDP of the G7 nations. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2010/0411/U...

Man you nailed it with this line...

...be they actual documented ship passengers or not...
24 months ago: Altruist, wealth is relative. To people in some African countries you are filthy stinking rich. Now if you are the great humanitarian you portray as you are volunteering 70 and 90 percent of other peoples money, you are no doubt sending 70 to 90 percent of your income to those in need correct?...... No? 60%....no? What about 35%?? Not even 35 percent? Hmmmm I don't understand Altruist why it is when you are obviously a wealthy person you do not put your money where your mouth is. Are you even giving 10% of your income to an African charity?
It is always easy to be a great humanitarian when you are spending someone else's money. I also feel the Republicans have been on a spending binge as well. It is not all of governments fault either. We are the ones who vote those in which promise to give more and cut less. Any candidate who states the truth, which is we will have to make cuts and go without for a while is simply kicked to the curb by American voters. But even worse is the fact that when we should be making cuts and encouraging new business we are spending more and making regulations which discourage new business. I am beginning to believe the only way we are going to change is to endure a massive system failure. I am hoping this will not be, but as long as the gravy train is still on the tracks there will be an overabundance of people who demand their "right" to ride.
24 months ago: a gravy train, when an economy is collapsed and all those who smugly watched others taking a ride become themselves riders. Then you will see a change. They will ride whatever train they are given.

they are not out to make cuts or stimulate jobs, they are slowly and carefully doing what has to be done in order to make globalism work. the US cannot remain as is in a global economy.

votes or no votes will not make one bit of difference. voting is there to make yo think you have a say. it is obvious if you really look back over things that the people have not had a say in this.
24 months ago: There certainly seems to be evidence of manipulation. I think those that are trying to manipulate the markets however may soon realize it is a tiger by the tail. I feel there will be ups and downs in a natural free market setting but we must take the good with the bad. When government manipulation occurs I suspect the highs can be higher but the lows can be much lower.
