Schools are acting in what they believe to be the best course of action for their students, but it looks as though the closing of schools due to fear of the H1N1 virus (swine flu) spreading like an epidemic haven't been necessary. The U.S. Government has reported that it was no longer necessary to keep schools closed due to fear of the spread of the virus.
Chalk this up to our society of fear, and the good news that this virus strain has been discovered to be a mild one, acting in a similar way as seasonal strains of flu. It was humorous to watch local schools close to keep kids from interacting together in confined spaces, just to watch them instead playing together taking in a matinee together in a confined space. I am thankful that schools looked into this and made decisions based on health and safety, though I wish our first reaction would be to research and understand as opposed to react in fear.
It is very sad to hear of the deaths in Mexico due to the virus, I think the last count I heard was 26 deaths in Mexico due to the outbreak. That government sickens me, pun intended, how sad that our neighbors to the south must live in real fear. As for my neighbors here, I hope that those that have caught the strain have taken it seriously enough to actually stay home and get better, so as to stop the spread. I guess the movie makers will have to scrap the pandemic film following this one, though I'm sure they will be excitedly waiting for the next big fear to hit.
In the meantime, the YouTube of a Foxnews report of what could happen wasn't scary at all...watch at you own risk!
