While sitting around this morning with nothing to do....
I fired up Turbo Tax and worked on filing my 2010 income tax....

When everything was said and done, my household income was the same as last year, my deductions were the same as last year, Basically everything was the same as last year....except my tax burden.

Somehow with all of those Obama and Democrat tax cuts for the working class didn't hit home. I ended up paying an additional 1,000 dollars more than the previous year.

Just curious. How did yours work out?

13 months ago: I paid $1800 more this year than last, on a measly $2000 increase in income. So I cleared $200 after taxes on my extra labor.

13 months ago: Figures out to a $40/week raise of which I got to keep $4/week. Is that the 90% upper income tax bracket they were talking about?
13 months ago: sounds like just between you an I we could have spent that additional 2800 dollars purchasing products and building the economy. Oh sorry, we did with weatherstriping for low income houses that have 6 Escalades parked in the front yard.
13 months ago: My guess is you (like me) didn't meet the threshold for the past deductions.

AP story: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/arti...

In 2009, nearly 35 million taxpayers got a tax break for paying interest on their home mortgages, and nearly 36 million taxpayers took the $1,000-per-child tax credit. About 41 million households reduced their federal income taxes by deducting state and local income and sales taxes from their taxable income.

About 36 million families cut their taxes by nearly $35 billion by deducting charitable donations

If that vote in December hadn't passed, your tax burden would have gone up only if you were in the high tax bracket since Obama planned to veto any tax increase on the middle class. The interesting thing to me is that someone out there thinks we can reduce the deficit and not pay taxes. This is a curious construct that did not meet Ronald Reagan's test of logic. He raised taxes. Oh my, on yes, the patron saint of Republican lore raised taxes. Well, yes he did, because he felt it was a necessary thing for us to do to live within our means.

I just don't buy and am long tired of this notion being promulgated that giving people back their tax money is better for the economy than using to to hire a person who's on unemployment. But, that's me.

Incidentally, my taxes were the same as last years, but I'm guessing that my rant-rave income will force me into the highest bracket nect year!
13 months ago: Sorry to be the one that is cold and hard...

If you income and deductions were the same as last year and you didn't pay any additional Obama / Democrat tax...

Your probably a Tax Cheat.

13 months ago: I remember when Republican President Ronald Reagan said:

"It is a paradoxical truth that tax rates are too high and tax revenues are too low and the soundest way to raise the revenues in the long run is to cut the rates now ... Cutting taxes now is not to incur a budget deficit, but to achieve the more prosperous, expanding economy which can bring a budget surplus."

No Democrat would have ever made this leap of logic. Now would they?
13 months ago: That is funny. If he were alive today he would probably be a Tea Party member.

As for ignoring the WND connection, only a fool discards the message out of hand because of the messenger. But unfortunately a lot of people consider anything coming our of outlets like WND or Fox or others to be false simply because of who conveyed the message. Conversely, those same people consider anything coming out of the mainstream media to be gospel.

Sad but true.

Remember Cassandra. Nobody LIKED her prophecies but she was always right.

13 months ago: Obama did not raise taxes at all. He gave everyone tax cuts. As a result according to the CBO income taxes paid are 13% less than under Bush. Corporate taxes are a third lower than under Bush. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110207/ap_o...

So the point of your rant is, that since you paid more taxes and maybe one or two other people did, that all of the actual facts and statistics are not believable?

Fox and the other corporate propaganda outlets will have you believe that Reagan never raised taxes, but in actuality after he saw that his tax cuts were a disaster he raised taxes many times. He just called them something else. His main goal was to shift the burden of taxes from the rich onto the middle class. http://money.cnn.com/2010/09/08/news/eco...

13 months ago: Kaeendy was correct in that giving tax cuts to the poor and middle class gets that money circulating and spent and it revives the economy. That is exactly what Obama did and is in favor of.

Tax cuts to the rich has the opposite effect however. Instead of spending that money, or providing jobs, or creating new businesses, the rich take their gifts out of circulation. They spend it overseas or hide it in off shore accounts.

Throwing money at the rich as Bush and Obama has done for the last 10 years does not result in any new jobs.

If you want jobs, target tax cuts to the specific result, so the rich only get tax cuts if they do create jobs.

Throwing money at the problem just takes that money out of circulation and takes that money away from job creation programs, education etc.

The country needs to revitalize education rebuild infrastructure and create more jobs. The Republican plan would cut education spending 25%, would slash infrastructure spending and would cost 2 million jobs.

The check from the government for my special needs child is in the mail.
It has been in the mail since 2000.

Nice job by the U.S. Postal Service in delivery. Then again.
Maybe 10 years are long enough for me to get a tad bit angry when all I see is slouches and slugs getting my tax money while I should be spending it on my disabled child. Oh, I forgot. I'm spending it on toilet paper to wipe your lazy butts.
