Recent local news has talked about postal workers protesting the possibility of getting rid of Saturday deliveries in order to save money. This has been mentioned as an option in the past, yet so far it has not occured.
Personally, I am fine with this idea & support it in order to keep mail service alive. I realize that times have changed. With email & cell phones being affordable & abundant, it means less written letters, postcards, etc. Other than bill statements, small packages & magazines, very little else is being sent out these days. And one less day for me to toss out junk mail is a good thing.
I understand the workers don't want to lose their hours. My solution: Keep the post offices open later during weekdays, say, to 8pm instead of 5pm. Heaven knows as a full time M-F employee, it's often difficult to get to the post office by 5pm, especially with the long lines. It would be quite nice to know it's open later & convenient for both residents & employees who want to maintain hours in their paychecks.
Just my two cents ;)
