Harold Camping, president of Family Radio, warns WE CAN KNOW that Judgment Day is coming May 21, this Saturday, followed by five months of "chaos and tribulation" and, finally, the end of the world on Oct 21. "Ye must read the Bible and ask God "to have mercy on each of our souls." http://www.wecanknow.com/

And here I thought I had another year before the Aztec Calendar Ended. Well if it ends Oct. 21st I don't begrudge the Aztecs for not having a special calender addition for only a couple of months.

The first house I bought was for only $5000 in Montana. The owners sold it so they could travel to Florida to join up with the Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=...#

I wonder why people fall for these scams? The danger to the rest of us is that sometimes these nuts act on their beliefs and endanger all of us. Many in George Bush's cabinet believed in the end of times, and worked towards intentionally starting wars to spur on Armageddon. http://www.conspiracy-times.com/content/...

So what will you be doing during the last few days of life on earth?

I'm going to be looking for some good deals on Craig's list.

Harold Camping is a kook and has predicted the end of the earth multiple times. When folks start putting specific dates on things like that a red flag always goes up with me immediately.

Reality is that this planet could be decimated today or tomorrow.

Rather than being materialistic and hoping to gain stuff that another leaves behind, we should be doing our darnedest to make life in the here and now better for ourselves and our neighbors.

Also, folks are so busy being "entertained" that they don't even notice the human tragedies that are taking place anymore. Not on the top of the priority list.

BTW - Who's on "Dancing with the Stars" tonight anyway?

All of the people who read and believed in the entire "Left Behind" series of 16 best selling books, the 50-60 spinoff novels, the movies, etc. All of those 40 millions people who take End Of Days Theology seriously - are nuts.

The Rapture Index is currently at 182. People who believe in this nonsense think that anything above 160 means fasten your seat belts the end is near.
"You could say the Rapture index is a Dow Jones Industrial Average of end time activity, but I think it would be better if you viewed it as prophetic speedometer. The higher the number, the faster we're moving towards the occurrence of pre-tribulation rapture. " http://www.raptureready.com/rap2.html

Many people believe G.W. Bush believed this nonsense and so did much of his cabinet. The really scary part is that they acted on it. They really did believe that this "War On Terror" was actually a Christian War against Evil. Perhaps they really did believe that by taking up arms against all Muslims they were moving Armageddon forward. http://jesuspuzzle.humanists.net/AORForu...

From the UK Telegraph,

"Green predictions of End Times are just as demented as Christian ones – so why are they treated more seriously?"

http://goo.gl/uXsVI

To quote the most relevant bit:

"Doomsday is no longer the property of the religious – it has been stolen and updated and dolled up as "science" by an army of misanthropic greens. Environmentalist writer Mark Lynas says humanity's "tipping point" is in 2015. "We have 18 months to stop climate change disaster", said Prince Charles in May 2008. And yet November 2009 came and went without even a murmur of climatic catastrophe, just as surely as this Saturday will pass without Jesus arriving on a stead to blast us with lightning. Greens are as consistently wrong as hot-headed God-botherers in their predictions of End Times: in 1990, the founder of the doomsday porn mag The Ecologist, Edward Goldsmith, wrote a book titled 5,000 Days to Save the Planet. Does anyone remember the planet dying in 2003? Me neither."

So Al, I'm still waiting for the catastrophic global warming floods here in Florida that you breathessly told me about last year.

Mark if you live only 15 feet above sea level you have about a hundred years to move your house, except it will be inundated with increasing frequency by storm surges. Things happen slowly. Sea levels are expected to rise 35 to 63 inches by 2100.

Nonetheless people are experiencing Global Warming or Global Weirding, right now as the Mississippi is reaching record flood levels. We have had record tornadoes, record droughts, record fires, record snows and record rains.

Most of the scientists are not doom mongers, they are generally very conservative in their predictions. All of the evidence is that they have not been nearly as alarmist as they should have been, because people are ignoring reality. The Climate is Changing Faster that they predicted.

Sea levels are increasing faster than predicted. http://www.independentnews.com/news/arti...

Tipping points are approaching faster than anyone thought. Methane from thawing arctic tundra is 23 times worse than CO2, and the melting ice means that sunlight is no longer reflected. it's heat is absorbed.

The arctic Sea ice is disappearing faster than even the most conservative climate change estimates. http://anniekatec.blogspot.com/2011/05/a...

The oceans are becoming acidic 10 times faster than predicted and reaching levels not expected for another 100 years. http://www.worldculturepictorial.com/blo...

12 months ago: We've had this discussion before and to quote a previous comment, "Finally, as has been discussed in the past, there's the problem of trustworthiness when the most vocal prognosticators of Global Warming aren't credible experts and have yet to make a case as to why we should impoverish the world and cull the flock in order to protect from their doom predictions." That's far more dangerous than people laughing off a religious nut.

And BTW, this isn't about Science - this is about a social and political ideology that twists manipulates Science and predicts imminent doomsday scenarios such as you did last year when telling me I needed to move out of Florida. Show me the hard trend data NUMBERS that proves it and let's not cite newspapers and liberal environemntal blogs. I want the raw studies, evidence, and analysis from Oceanographers with doctorates to prove your wild claim.

I'm certainly not going to rely on self-proclaimed 'experts' like his royal putrescence in the form of Prince Charles hypocritically lecturing people to live with less to save the environment. And what a sallow hypocrite he is - see:

Unlike the charlatanism of religion, Science has proven itself and without it, we wouldn't be having this discussion using some of the most advanced technologies that Science has devised."

"Also, unlike religion, Science can and has acknowledged error or revised theory based on new data. So to compare the fantasy of religion with Science is patently absurd. If you're that irrational, you could just as well say, "shoving down Physics, Electrical Engineering, Meteorology, etc down people's throat."

97% of climatologists with reams and reams of hard evidence have reached consensus that climate change is happening and that it is human caused. Why do you accept such basics as evolution yet deny climate science?

If you want climatologists and Oceanographers with doctorates, how about the scientists from NOAA? http://climateprogress.org/2009/01/26/no...

That's quite consistent with my position on climate change and the fact that you're citing an ideological website buttresses my point that climate science has been hijacked by demented political ideologues. To quote the description of your website,

"Climate Progress is dedicated to providing the progressive perspective on climate science, climate solutions, and climate politics."

The "progressive" perspective? No, I want hard science facts unadorned by political ideology with all the social axes they have to grind. You are merely the flip-side of the inaptly named Truthbarry, but instead of touting fundamentalist fantasy religion, you're touting "progressive" ideology and objective truth is always a casualty when it comes to religious or political touts.

But commie wants a Beemer! hahaha.

Thing about pigs, they want to be more equal than others.
They deny that reality, that it's all about themselves getting more than the next guy; but it's revealed.

Love that line although it's consistent - he wants the Beemer for free.

Of course I imagine the charlatan televangelist Camping and his religoius organization could afford plenty of Beemers since they raked in millions of $$$$ from the gullible faithful to get the word out. As far I'm concerned, the the only notable difference between Camping and his compatriot evangelical dominionists entrenched in government is the former predicted a date for the coming Kingdom of Jesus while the latter works to make it happen.

Now which famous person from history wrote the following:

"History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which their civil as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purposes."
