The Faithful Word Baptist Church is an "Independent, fundamental, soul-winning, King James Bible-only, Baptist Church in Phoenix Tempe, AZ pastored by Steven L Anderson."

Pastor Anderson is not merely content with preaching salvation & the love of Jesus, and has set his sights on encouraging his members to 'pray' for the death of President Obama. The linked YouTube video has a recording of Anderson's sermon and the talking points are as follows:

- Why I hate Obama.

- I'd like to see Obama melt like a Snail..he needs to reap what he sews.

- I'm going to pray that he dies and goes to Hell

- When I goto bed tonight, Steven L. Anderon is going to going to pray for Obama to die and go to Hell

- It's not just the abortions - it's all the warfare that our country has no business being involved in (WUT?!)

The talking points don't adequately capture the insane ravings; you'll need to watch the YouTube video and skip to 3:20 if you don't to hear the introductory commentary.

The very next day one of his Church members shows up to an Obama event with an AR-15 Assault Rifle and it was reported on CNN - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfN7woo2xRY & Sanderson was quite proud and boasts about it at on a fundamentalist forum (That's my Member!)

This guy is as Christian as a klansman.

He does not represent true, Bible-believing Christians.

"If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?" (1 John 4:20 King James Version)

6. Appoint an evil man to oppose him;
let an accuser stand at his right hand.

7 When he is tried, let him be found guilty,
and may his prayers condemn him.

8 May his days be few;
may another take his place of leadership.

9 May his children be fatherless
and his wife a widow.

10 May his children be wandering beggars;
may they be driven [d] from their ruined homes.

11 May a creditor seize all he has;
may strangers plunder the fruits of his labor.

12 May no one extend kindness to him
or take pity on his fatherless children.

13 May his descendants be cut off,
their names blotted out from the next generation.

Here's an example where a former Navy Chaplain is doing this very prayer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YovdJuvmSw

However, you are quoting from the Old Testament/Covenant which was from "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" era. When Jesus came on the scene, He brought a New Testament/Covenant, one which has as its foundation the noble divine virtue called love.

Please read the Beatitudes, or Sermon on the mount from Matthew 5:1-12. I like to call it "The Be Attitudes." :o)

Please also read the following comments from the mouth of Jesus in Matthew 5:43-46:

43) “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’

44) But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,

45) that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

46) For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?

Now I am not saying that one cannot quote from the old Testament. However, one must do so in the proper context. The Bible does say in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 that:

16) "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

17)so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

You gave a great response although although even within the Christian New Testament, the religious zealot can find citations to justify their venting of intolerance and lack of charity. For example:

"The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness...In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion...Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death" Romans 1

And quotations from Jesus:

"If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town. I tell you the truth, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town." Matthew 10

"Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law - a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.' Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me" Matthew 10

"Then Jesus asked them, "When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything? Nothing," they answered. He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one." Luke 22

Now one can counter that the zealot is misinterpreting the 'spiritual' context of these citations but unfortunately through history, there's been blood and violence shed over these misinterpretations.

You are absolutely right in that there have been too many misinterpretations by some throughout history and that unfortunately resulted in violence. While my approach is to leave all judgments to God who is the Righteous Judge, I will make it known that I fully agree with the scriptures you have quoted from the New Testament. God is indeed a God of love! He is also holy and just! He flawlessly and endlessly extends His love and grace to all mankind. However, one must willingly embrace and receive His love in order to enjoy its benefits. Because He is holy and just, He will judge the wickedness and ungodlessness of every man and woman. He has rightly set a divine order for His creation to function. When you were a child living with your parents, they probably had rules you thought were unfair and cruel. Nevertheless, their love and goodwill regarding you was certain. So it is with God. Our actions do carry consequences. It is not at all unfair of God to execute judgments when we willfully chose to disregard His divine order. His love makes plenty of room for our mistakes, but love is responsible in essence.
32 months ago: Can I just say that judgement is God's and God's alone? Anyone can find a verse in the Bible - new or old testament - which condemns evil doers and says they should burn in hell; however, none of these verses say that WE the people who live on earth should be the ones who cast this condemnation upon someone. We are called to love as God loved us and as Jesus taught. In the end, only you are responsible for yourself and God will look at you and He will either know you because you accepted his Son as the savior of your soul, or you didn't. God judges, God punishes. We do not. It is not our place. This pastor is despicable and it's very sad that he's teaching his congregation to be hateful but it's even worse that he is getting publicity. This is not the way a Christian thinks or acts.
