Children Sex Offenders

Do you know how many registered child sex offenders are around you? I was astonished to find 5 within a few miles of my home. In my opinion, anyone that hurt or assault children should never be free to do it again. Lock them up and throw away the key. The Philadelphia Archdioceses is reopening the child molestation cases in the Catholic Church. My question is why didn't they arrest those that were responsible years ago? I do not care about the profession of a child sex offender, they should be jailed.

The child sex offender's registry will show you how many sex predators are in the surrounding area from your home. There are a total of 76 around me. It is quite alarming because history shows that many child molesters are always repeat offenders. They are people that have been arrest numerous times too.

Some people feel that therapy can work, I disagree. I believe only a very small percentage can be rehabilitated, but the vast majority will never change at all. I know the law is supposed to keep a watch on these people, but there are always cases where they re-offend or even kill a child. If you have small children just take a look at the registry and see how many child sex offenders are around you.

15 months ago: You do not need a college degree or be a doctor to be aware of child molesters around me. I do not have to try increasing anything. Why are you so concerned about my traffic? How does that affect your life? This is rantrave and I can write about any subject matter I want.
15 months ago: Do you realize that in a divorce that involves child custody that up to 50% of the women claim FALSE charges of sexual abuse? Yet in American society when it comes to child sexual abuse you are instantly considered guilty? The husband then has to spend tens of thousands of dollars to defend himself and his reputation.
15 months ago: The child sex offender registry is not fake, it is real. The names are submitted by the authorities. So who knows what point you are making. I did not write a piece about divorces.
15 months ago: One more thing, I have redirected all comments to my trash from rantrave from now on, so you are wasting your time.

Com'on Happy go lucky, how about live and let live?

Sure, there are falsely accused people in every area of criminal prosecution. There are also just as many guilty ones. I think I would rather err on the side of caution. You know what they say, "Everybody in jail is innocent."

This post fits the guidelines of RantRave. Nowhere in the TOS does it say you have to be an expert on the subject, only that they want to focus on personal opinion about a topic.

15 months ago: I know this subject very well and some of what she said is all right I put someone in jail for this and they were a repeat offender. But not all sex offenders around you are child molesters. There are a lot of other reasons you get named a sex offender. I know a lot of minors who have has sex but are now sex offenders. if you get caught out side having sex or in your car. Even if you are gay in some states still have laws that can make you a sex offender. All it takes is what they think constitutes a sex crime. My point is just because they are labeled a sex offender it does not mean that they are a child molester.

15 months ago: Happygolucky makes me wonder if he has ever been accused of criminal sexual conduct with a child, this article certainly seems to have made him angry.

But on to this great article, we do need to protect our children. There re just too many lower than scum animals on the lose. I have some other websites people can use to check-up on who is around their children, they are listed below, they are all free to use. No, I do not own any of them.

http://www.criminalsearches.com/ fast easy but not perfect criminal record check, not all jurisdictions include all information.
http://pipl.com/ this site pulls up a lot of information.
http://recordsproject.com/ this site is a great place to search for records nationwide.
14 months ago: The problem with looking at criminal records is that they only show the conviction. They do not express any circumstances and are quite often misinterpreted to be as bad as your imagination.

I always encourage people, if so interested in someone's court case, they should go request the case file (public info) and read up on the actual case.

But jl didn't say you are a child molester, he said wonders if you were ever a child molester.

You, on the other hand, accused smartygirl of plagiarism, and you did it with malice, and with the intention of causing her harm and/or loss. Unless you can prove it to be true beyond a shadow of a doubt, then she has a case for defamation, probably libel, but possibly slander. Which one depends on whether the courts consider talking through a blog fixed (libel) or transitory (slander).

I Appreciate some of the opinions in the article, but I find many of them misinformed. The child rapists you see on television are not necessarily those on the sex offender list. Plus, if you look at labeling theory, you see it becomes impossible to try to rehabilitate someone who is stigmatized in such a way.

Also, a list would be great for authorities, but all it does for the public (who can't legally do much anyway) is create a bunch of worried parents.

I get why it was created, but legislation created under the circumstances Megan's law was created under usually makes bad legislation.
15 months ago: You can kick me off if you like but postings like this are what ruined rantrave. A few decided to make some cash off of it and ruined it for the rest of us. This used to be a great site. Then it got slammed with useless articles for cash.

I just think there is a great irony that I write an article on forgiving a person who killed my child and then we have a posting about burning people at the stake. Sickening.

14 months ago: There are two problems with online Sex Offender Registries that I have observed. Both are disturbing and both are problematic.

A major problem with the online registries is the lack of discrimination between offenses that would genuinely present a threat to the community and those that would not. This leads to false positives. Before some starts hollering that all sexual offenders are a threat to the community, let's look at what all can be prosecuted here in Texas as a "sexual assault". Old fashioned forcible rape is part of it. But if two teenagers - one above the age of consent, the other below it - have sexual relations then it is a sexual assault according to the statute. Now I am not talking about some 30-year-old who finds himself a willing 14-year-old (and IMS) there was just such a case in the news a few years back. I am talking about a boy and girl a year apart in age but the girl is below the age of consent.

That boy would win up in the registry. He would be branded a sexual offender for life. But he does not represent any threat to society.

But I believe that as bad as false positives are, false NEGATIVES are even worse. Just because you look online for any offenders in your neighborhood and fine none DOES NOT mean there are NONE in your neighborhood. Those guys tend to move around. They also sometimes "forget" to update their address with the authorities.

I agree with TLTW. It looks good for the pols but in reality does nothing positive for the community.

I don't know if I could EVER forgive someone who harmed one of mine that way. Maybe. MAYBE I could do it AFTER taking my buck knife and making him look like a Ken doll. Yeah, I'd go to prison for it but I'd be out on parole before his junk grew back. And my garbage disposal would make CERTAIN they didn't sew it back on.

With that, said common sense would tell you that the majority of sex offenders pose no threat to children at all. Additionally common sense would also tell us that if a pedophile were hell bent on harming a child the sex offender registry would do nothing to stop him. As much as pedophilia repulses me, many studies have indicated that with proper treatment these offenders respond favorably to treatment. Additionally sex offenders as a whole have the lowest recidivism rates of most crimes. Lastly if one really wants to know the truth the vast majority of sex offenders on the registry never re-offend.

5 months ago: While I have nothing but loathing, contempt and an exceedingly sharp knife (for the genitals of any pedo who does something to one of my grandchildren) for pedophiles I have to say that registries are a waste of resources.

The problem is twofold. 1) False positives: As AbolishRegistry noted
Statistics prove that only 1% of sex offenders on the sex offender registry are pedophiles
If only 1% of the people listed in a registry are pedophiles then it follows that 99% of the people listed are NOT pedophiles. While some are genuine rapists, others are just teenagers who happen to be just over the age of consent and who had sex with their just underage girlfriend. (Note: I am not talking about a 25 year old who has a 12 year old "girlfriend". He needs a penectomy and bilateral orchiectomy.) False positives lead to needless anxiety. The mere fact that the registry shows some sort of sex offended living in your neighborhood does not mean that you have a pedo or serial rapist living down the street from you.

A worse problem is 2) FALSE NEGATIVES. Just because no sex offenders are listed in your state's registry as living in your neighborhood, that doesn't mean that there are none. Those guys tend to move around and the oversight from our diligent, highly paid, benevolent bureaucrats is often somewhere between minimal and non existent. So, having done your due diligence, checked the registry and determined that no sex offenders are listed as living in your neighborhood you go about your life fat, dumb and happy; secure in the (false) confidence that you don't have to be concerned about sex offenders in your neighborhood.

But I do disagree with AbolishRegistry on one point. AR noted that
As much as pedophilia repulses me, many studies have indicated that with proper treatment these offenders respond favorably to treatment.
I don't trust such unnamed "studies" as far as I can shot-put a 747. I would not trust someone who has molested a child - EVER AGAIN!

Sidebar: Under Islamic law and doctrine a man can "marry" a suckling babe and pretty much perform every sex act short of full on penetrative intercourse with them - at least until they reach the ripe old age of 12 years whereupon everything is legal. I can only IMAGINE the mental condition of a young woman so reared. Any man who would do such a thing - and I don't give a TINKER'S DAMN about his religion - should have his genitals removed with an acetylene cutting torch - SLOWLY!!! BY THE VICTIM IF SHE SO DESIRES!!!!

My beliefs re the "Religion of Peace" is as follows:
Bullets before Burqas
Pistols before Prayer Rugs
Shotguns before Sharia
Rifles before Ramadan

and

DEATH BEFORE DHIMMITUDE!!!!!!!!!
